  1. That seriously is the only non panerai photo of the 229 on the internet. I found that one via some searches and had to register for some porsche forum just to DL it. The 229s are rare PAMs. You are right, that color combo with the strap looks great. Based on that pic, I'd say the gen dial is more cornflower blue.
  2. Here is a comparison of my 082 vs the 229. The 229 is actually shinier than my 082.
  3. A day late, my mailman finally showed up with my PAM 229. Apparently I have one of the first (and only) five made so far. More will be released in 2 weeks but I wanted you all to see it in the wild. Overall impressions are good. The dial is glossy metallic, like DSNs 082, BUT it's more purple than blue. I'm not sure if that's good or bad since I've never seen a gen in my hand. I have seen photos and it's a tough call. I'll leave that open to debate amongst the forums. You need something new to debate anyways. Keep in mind, there are only 100 gens of these so it's doubtful that many people have seen this in their hand either. I'm not so sure someone would call this out as a rep based on dial shade alone. QC out of the box was a little lacking. My CG screws were not tight and one of the strap screws was forced into the thread. I had to WD40 it and use some pliers to unscrew it. I've had to replace that one with a springbar I luckily had in my spares. The lume is ok, not super lume standards, but fades pretty quickly. I couldn't get a lume shot at the moment due to too much light coming into where I have my camera setup. I'll get one later tonight when it's dark. Build quality wise, it looks and feels good. Solid watch, nice weight. Date is nice and easy to read. Once I tightened the CG, my lever stays locked, nice and tight. It flops about when open but they all do. I took most of these in my light tent setup but I took a wristshot under different lighting so you could see the color change on the dial. In some lights it's blue, and in others it's more purple. The color is right in the fringe area of both blue and purple. Ok, I'll shut up now and bring on the pics. It comes on a black rubber deployment strap: That wasn't working for me so I put it in a MF Blue Buffalo: Wrist shot taken in cloudy light: Here are some gen pics I found on the internet:
  4. A super rep would be a rep that out of the box is so close to gen that it would be almost impossible to call out unless you were an expert in that watch like an AD. What did your searches of this site tell you about the dealers here? Did you check out the links for the dealers posted here already?
  5. Did you buy it from a trsuted dealer here? If not, I bet if you send that back you'll never see your money or the watch again. Lots of times the shady dealers use gen photos to sell the watch and then supply a crappy, different watch. Email Josh to see if he can still get you this watch. He has three versions. They all look the same except for the movements. Titanium cased PAMs are very hard to find at the dealers I've heard so he might not be able to get this any longer. What you see in the pics is what you'll get from Josh. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn11802-tobacco-br...neck-p-871.html If that doesn't work out, you can always pick up a PAM 036. It's similar except for the wording on the dial. It's more rare as a gen and more expensive as it's a special edition that they only made 200 of. There is one for sale in the forum here at RWG right now for a great price! http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=65576
  6. I've ordered tons of reps (see my sig) and since I live in Seattle, they all come in through SFO or LAX. I have had no issues except once. SFO opened my box, saw the watches, and then slapped on a $120 duty tax. The postman was supposed to collect it but he didn't even mention it.
  7. I've come to the conclusion that my postman is a sack of feces. He's usually fairly decent but this is the third time that we haven't gotten ANY mail (and we get a ton of junk mail every day). I tracked my package and it says: Status: Notice Left We attempted to deliver your item at 11:31 AM on January 9, 2008 and a notice was left. It can be redelivered or picked up at the Post Office. If the item is unclaimed, it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. WRONG MOFO. He didn't try to do anything. I was home all day. No knocks, no doorbell. In fact, THERE IS NO NOTICE. He didn't even show up today. Anyways, if someone else gets a PAM 229 feel free to post pics. I'd like to see what I may or may not get delivered tomorrow.
  8. Hah! I got my first Rad the other day after owning a bunch of luminors. I had the exact same reaction. It's making me rethink a 210.
  9. I don't fault you for this path at all. If you go into this understanding that there is a good chance you will break something, then go for it. I like learning by doing myself as well. I'm going to get some tools and hack on my older crappy reps. You chose to work on a more expensive project. Above all else, you will definitely learn something. I agree with The Zigmeister, don't disappear. I'd like to learn from your experiences along with many other members of this forum. Good luck!
  10. I'd suggest not ordering them all at once in one order. You'll get then taken by customs or have to pay tax on them. Order no more than 2 at a time.
  11. 44mm wide incl. the crown and 53mm high from tip of one lug to the other. Hope this helps!
  12. Do a sandwich dial from a 111H or 112H. Those really need to be done right. But do it in another thread since I kinda hijacked this one back to your regularly scheduled 201A dial discussion ...
  13. PM me and I'll get it to you later. I have a sleeping puppy on my lap and can't get up to measure it. It doesn't look that large on my wrist either and I have the same size wrist. I think the non-chrono version is smaller than the chrono version. As for your other questions, the dial redesign fell through. Rocket ran into some issues where the dial maker got tired of making small changes or something.
  14. I'd order it for sure. DSN should make this. He's almost got all the pieces needed. I've heard that this is definitely going to be repped this year. The real question is if they'll get it right ...
  15. I tried to put a CG from a 253 (same case as the auto 212) on the manual wind 212 and it did not fit. The screw holes didn't line up.
  16. I'm sure they already have all the dials made for the next run if they are due out in 2 weeks. Maybe the next run after that if they sell all 3000 or whatever number of these they have.
  17. Haha, ok, such pressure. Hopefully mine will come soon. We need someone to review a 164 and 104 as well. I didn't get those. Yet.
  18. That's crazy! Only 5? I wonder why so few. On that note, they should make limited edition reps. That would be an interesting experiment. Of course, they'd make reps of the reps.
  19. I have one in route. I verified with Josh. I don't have my tracking number yet but he said he allocated one of these first ones for me. I ordered early yesterday morning. "Hi, I have allocated one unit for you No worries.. Thanks joshua" EDIT: I just checked his site. I actually do have a tracking number for this order. Yay! I forgot that he doesn't email them to me like Andrew.
  20. They do. I'm curious to see the AR. The photo on King's site doesn't look like double AR.
  21. The rep makers will see this thread. The next rep version will have teeth on the case.
  22. I've seen that but haven't seen a 229. It was a Celine Dion shirt. Does that count as a concert t-shirt?
  23. I don't mean to potentially jack up a sale for ajoesmith but I'd rethink using this watch as a daily beater working on racecars. Any PVD watch will scratch, even gen PVD. This one is better than the rep for sure but it will still scratch if you abuse it. If you don't mind scratches etc. go for it. If you want to keep it like it is, I'd get it but not wear it as a daily beater. I can show you many photos of gen PVD Panerai's that have scratches etc. Most gen PVD Pam owners keep them in a safe or wear them carefully.
