  2. Unless they are shipping the 5002 with two different types of straps, the three 5002's I received all came with a black buffalo grain "type" of strap with white contrast stiching. I have not seen an alligator grain strap come on the 5002. Read Niclas' post again. He is showing his watch with the Strapluxe strap not the strap it came with from PT. And BTW Niclas - I agree with you 100% - although the strap on the watch as it comes has a cheap feel to it, they nailed the expensive look of the Gen rivets when they spun the finish. Good idea to brush the rivets on your after market strap. I too think the chrome or polished look of the after market strap rivets has a cheezy look to it. I am going to try it on my rivets when the strap I ordered comes in. Great idea!

    Doc - You are just going to have to quit posting posts like the one above. It makes too much sense and isn't the shrill scream that we all know conservatives are guilty of Six pages now and I still see myths being perpetrated here... MYTHS 1. People who voted for Prop 8 took away someone's rights - Prop 8 did not take anything away- Prop 8 PUT BACK what has been the standard of marriage in California since the states inception. A single Liberal activist Judge is the one who took something away, and that would be the will of the people in California, when OVERWHELMINGLY in 2000, the Defense of Marriage Act - Proposition 22 was passed into law by the VOTE of the people of California. This proposition quite simply read: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

    AD - I have seen you around the boards and took note that you were always kind and gracious in your posts and I see that you have done your best here. Thank you... On the first page of this thread I commented "Isn't it amazing that when self professed "tolerant" people are exposed to a point of view different then their own, they immediately become intolerant and try and belittle the opposing point of view though the use of name calling? Recently here in Los Angels there have been numerous protest re: Prop 8 were thousands have shown up condemning those who voted for Prop 8. These protesters exude the vial hatred and judgment they themselves claim Prop 8 supporters are guilty of. Five pages later here and it seems there were plenty of people willing to illustrate my point by exposing their own refusal to engage in any meaningfully exchange of ideas without the name calling. For me, I am not surprised that the topic of Religion was used to obscure the truth that biologically and physiologically there is no way any reasonable person can conclude that anal intercourse between two men makes any sense. After all - isn't the fact that men who are attracted to this type of sex what makes them gay? So how is it again that two men who want to get "Married" can be considered equal to that of a heterosexual marriage? As far as the religious factor involved in this argument, as trite as it may seem given that the thought comes from a celebrity, near the end of this interview, I think Ben Stein sums it up quite poignantly:

Are you trying to say you have never heard one of Olberman's psychotic hate filled diatribes? Never heard one of Maher's vain attempts to explain to anyone who will drink his cool aid that he is the arbitrator and keeper of the truth as it relates to all things religious? And Savage - a syndicated sex columnist? - now that's someone I look to for my truth in religion.... You need to get out a little more if you think sighting these guys as the basis for you take on religion gives you some kind of credibility. Really - that's some funny shiat! Talk about ignorance - the trio you hold up as intellectuals couldn't make one brain between the three of them.

Let's just skip the to the bottom line of what I guess your point is - "what does it even MATTER to you if loving adults are allowed to get married" This type of juvenile logic makes it OK for a brother to marry a sister - in California that is a FELONY... The question "How will it impact your marriage?" is weak. How would an adult who marries a farm animal impact your marriage? How would an adult who marries a small child impact your marriage? This has nothing to do with the traditional definition of marriage. If I have to explain to you that marriage in it's own right, is the symbol of a time honored sacred tradition, that throughout history in EVERY civilization has ALWAYS been defined as a commitment between one man and one woman - then I am not sure it is worth my time trying to explain that anything short of this does a disservice to marriage itself. Look, if you want to have sex with a goat in the privacy of your home, as far as I am concerned, go for it - just don't call it "normal" and don't try and tell me your "marriage" to the goat is the same thing as the marriage to my wife.

I haven't heard a sensible argument yet that can explain away several thousand years of tradition (marriage between one man & one woman). JohnG - I' am not a constitutional lawyer, but even I know the constitution does not give rights (we all ready have them as stated in the Declaration of Independence - "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights") the Constitution restricts rights. You might be thinking about the "Bill of Rights" and even that just guarantees what we already have. Beside arguing that Marriage of any type is a "Right" is fundamentally flawed so it really is a mute point. MARRIAGE IS NOT A RIGHT - as it is LICENSED by the state, much like driving. Nobody has the "right" to drive - it is a privilege granted by the state and is recognized with a license.   9. Hey YM - don't fool yourself - the dial really isn't that bad and the recessed datewheel is something that a WIS may not even notice, trust me - it's really not a big deal. Also, I have to tell you, I have gone to great lengths to avoid Asian movm'nts. My 188 had to have a 7753 and I swapped the Asian 7750 on my MBW AP ROO for a Valjoux 7750. With that said, so far (cross my fingers) I am impressed with the movement in this watch. It has plenty of nice machine work and it is been averaging +2/3 sec a day for over a week now - well within COSC.... Like I said - go back and look at who is saying the dial is good and the dial is bad, My guess is the people who are saying the dial is bad have never seen the Gen in person, let alone have even held the Rep...
  10. Lately there seems to be no end to "Ultimates" No one on this thread claimed this watch is an "Ultimate". I certainly don't think it is one. But getting back to the simple truth - I, as well as a few others who own the watch, think for a $150.00 Rep, it is a d@mn good one. Where we differ is that you claimed it was a "cheap asian knockoff" " - "but that's it. No more, no less" The point being - is it worth the $150.00? I think it is and stated why. You said it is not and I am still not sure how you concluded this seeing that you base it on half truths and overinflated suppositions from people who have never even held the watch. If you don't think a watch that has a sapphire crystal, double AR, 316 stainless, excellent clasp, good dial, excellent hands, a Genuine look & feel combined with a descent movement that keeps COSC time is worth $150.00 - then I guess you are right - we will just have to disagree...
  11. Yellowmen - Do they have humor or sarcasm in the Netherlands? I got to believe they do. Since you have been around you probably know I am straight shooter and I call them like I see them. No insults, nothing personal. Some of my closest friends and I have wonderful discussions, you know, the kind where we agree to disagree. Just because we may disagree, doesn't mean it's an insult. Do you have a point? My point is simple. $150.00 for arguably, what is one of the better Reps to come around, is not a whole lot of money when you put into perspective. And BTW when you come on a thread where most people seem to be agreeing on something (in this case that the IWC is a good watch) and then knowingly say inflammatory things like calling the watch a "'cheap asian knock-off" or that you are "completely amazed by what happened to this forum" in reference to the peoples opinions - you better not try and hide behind the weak "please don't come with too many negative or critical arguments" when you just walked into the room and in one post, insulted a persons choice of a watch and their intelligence in making the decision to buy the watch - really dude - you've got some cajones calling me out.. I'll chalk this up to some kind of misunderstanding due to the translation from English to Dutch. Now if you have some point to make regarding the "High" cost of the watch and can figure out how to do it without insulting people by implying their choice in watches is nothing but a "cheap Asian knockoff" - be my guest. If you can't - then man up and take a little of what you are dishing out or head for the door...
  12. Yeah, I guess it is pretty much a matter of perspective. For me, when it costs $70.00 to fill my car up with gas, $20.00 for a good lunch and the nice leather strap I buy costs more than the watch, $150.00 for a Rep that most seem to agree is a good one, I have to conclude the price is reasonable. I have to agree, though, I wish it didn't have an Asian movement. With that said, however, take some time to read one of The Zigmeister's reviews of the most recent Asian movements. Even The Zigmeister has commented that he is impressed with the increased quality from what we once saw and we have certainly come along way
  13. You've got to be Kidd'n me! Do you even own the watch? A guy on this thread who owns both the Rep and the Gen posts that the Rep is visually as good as the Gen and you come on here whining. God I hope you have at least held the Rep before you condem it. First - for $150.00 the case and deployment buckle alone are well worth the money. Second - You talk about the past. Do I need to point out to you that the world as a whole has fallen on hard economic times and inflation is at an all time high. $150.00? When my wife and I go out for dinner and a movie we drop $150.00. Are you living insome cave some where? I've been at this a while and have seem the evolution from cheep canal street Reps that sold for $30.00, MBW's that sold for $450.00 to the current crop of "Super" Reps that for the most part all sell in the $250.00 to $300.00 range. The reviews are accurate on this watch - it is well worth the coin and when I compare this watch against my Gens I am amazed at how close the quality is...,
  14. Lanikai - Aaron is the way to go and your watch/strap combo cinched it for me. It sure does look nice. I ordered one from Aaron last week (hope it doesn't take three months like the last strap he made me) A couple of questions for you: 1. Does Aaron taper the thickness of the strap from where the strap attaches to the head (thicker) to the end (thinner) like the Gen, or is the strap all one thickness? 2. Have you had any issues with your AR wiping off? I went ahead and took the AR off the top of my crystal after I polished out a little nick on the bezel and rubbed off a large area of AR by accident. Looks like I will be on the next Chief AR run too. I can't wait to put the entire package together...
  15. Exactly -LOOKED like it was worth $100.00. When you look at it up close you can tell with the naked eye it that it wasn't made from the skin of any dead animal... I looks and feels synthetic.
  16. The strap looks OK - but truthfully, I think the entire strap is made of plastic and quite honestly it has a "cheep" feel to it...
  17. Damn! - You had to go and post that picture of Gen lume... I ordered a Gen spec black strap from HkTan and my 5002 is scheduled for a Cheiftang Ar makeover. I was gong to pass on the AR - but now you've got me think'n - hmmmmm....
  18. Have to agree with robert on this one. I too looked at the Gen and Rep side by side. The finish and look of the Rep to Gen is amazingly close and on the the wrist it is just about impossible to tell the difference. Throw on a high quality strap and you are "in" As far as the power reserve goes pug, sure, it would be great to have a working PR, but when you consider the Gen is $10,000.00 and the Rep has the look and feel of a Gen for $150.00 - I think a working 7 day PR might be a little too much to wait for... If the power reserve were to actually work on the watch as it is, not sure how that would add to any accuracy as if it were on the current movement, it would run down in two days or less, not seven like the Gen. Also, if by some chance the Chinese went for the whole enchilada and repped the IWC In House Movement to give the watch a true seven day reserve, I guarantee the price would go sky high.. And with a higher price I can give you another guarantee - there would be a whole bunch of people b!tching and belly aching about how the cost of tis rep was WAY OVERPRICED! Seems to me the V1 got it right - besides, no one would ever take note of a non working PR as it is impossible to see a working PR move anyway... Now if they could just get the AR right and use some decent lume - now we would be talk'n...
  19. Got the new BP too. Awesome watch! I nicked the edge of the bezel and went to polish the nick out. Having read your post and being familiar with the low quality of Rep AR I was real careful not to get any polish on the crystal... Just the action of me polishing the bezel edge and allowing the polish cloth to touch the crystal slightly while I polished the nick out removed a large area of AR. BE CAREFUL! Looks like it is off to Chief for the real deal...
  20. Have to agree with you on your point about the $10k - it does kinda get in the way of buying a Gen... In all honetsty though, "Homie" all you have to do is hang out and read a few BP threads and you can get your question answered.
  21. If the fact that it "looked fake" bothers you, your best bet is to just get it over with and go to your local AD. They're replicas man - they all "look fake"... Now, how fake they look -well- that's another subject altogether...
  22. HEAHLLLLLYAAAA!!! That's what I 'am talk'n about... Thanks for posting the nice pictures. I mentioned in an earlier thread that the Black Skyland with a PVD bracelet would be the ideal watch for me and this is exactly the look I had hoped it would be - ONLY BETTER! It really makes the red lettering stand out. Very nice....
  23. Nice review and GREAT pictures... I assure you the bezel insert is NOT full ceramic. I am not even sure it is part "ceramic." It is definitely not plastic, however. When I received my GMT II from PT the "ceramic" bezel had several scratches on it. I contacted PT and he sent me a replacement insert right away. I removed my damaged insert and the best I can tell is that it's some type of two part epoxy paint (like Dupont's Imron) sprayed over the normal aluminum bezel insert - which are found on most of our rep subs. I guess it could be some type of "ceramic" sprayed over the top of the metal insert, but I assure you, the insert is a blend of two types of material, with one of them being aluminum. The insert is NOT one solid material.
  24. That is correct. Personally I would go with Eurotimez. I spoke to Chris a few days ago and he has a TT in the works. If it comes out the way he detailed to me, the quest for the "Best TT Sub" may very well be over... Thanks By-Tor, your complement is worth a lot to me.
