  4. How to swap the date wheel (DW) on A7750 has been discussed a lot on rep forums and there are some tutos available. However, the swap is quite more difficult when the A7750 has the minutes at position 3 (a modified A7750). This tuto shows the issues to take into account in this case. The example shown here is a HBB with DW with original black text and white background. The owner wants to install a DW with white text and black background. The final result will be this: PROCEDURE As always, hands and dial must be removed: Following picture shows the mechanism when the dial is removed. As seen, the modification to move the minutes from 12 to 3 is above the DW, and it has to be removed to swap the DW. The mod consists of 3 gears. To remove the mod, the 2 screws marked have to be removed. After removing the plate fastened by these 2 screws we will see this: Next step is to remove the 2 gears located more to the right, with no difficulty. However, when assembling, later, central gear, it is easy to confuse top and down faces. That is the reason I marked top face with a black marker (red circle). The two gears removed: Now we have one of the new problems in comparison with the standard DW swap: removing the gear at 12. This gear is pressed on the minutes output pin

  7. It is know that many times has no sense to repair a replica with an Asian 21j movement. The repair may be very expensive in comparison with the cost of the watch. The objective of this tutorial is to show how to substitute / replace an A21j movement. For that reason I bought a broken submariner from a colleague of a Spanish forum. Here follows a picture of this submariner. The equivalent of the A21j to be bought is the DG2813. This movement can be obtain, for example, from Ofrei (USA) and Cousins (UK). Follow the links: http://www.ofrei.com/page1119.html#16874 http://www.cousinsuk.com/catalog/4/40/1921.aspx The DG2813 beats at 21600. The equivalent version beating at 28800 is the DG4813 (Ofrei) and DG8413 (Cousins, wrong name in this webpage). The DG2813 is very cheap: $15.40 at Ofrei,
  8. The back cover of IWC Cousteau 2006 model has a piece of wood from the Calypso ship. In the rep, the factory has employed a sticker of no very good quality simulating wood. After watching a gen, the difference is quite noticeable. It is not easy to find good pictures of the back of the 2006 Cousteau watch. I have found the following two pictures. One of them seems to be a picture of a prototype
  9. I have been waiting a long time for a decent rep of an Ulysses Nardin watch. For me this brand produces very original and beautiful watches. Finally a good rep is here. This is the review of model Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph 8003-102-3/92. It seems that a gen of this model was bought to be replicated. Really, the rest of version seems worse replicated. It was hard to find good pictures of the gen, as this is a very new model. Although I do not have the rep, I have used pictures from some colleagues that have received the watch and now it is possible to make a review. Thanks a lot to these members for sharing these pictures (Lanai and Phoband). This first picture shows some of the flaws. The pusher are longer in the rep. This flaw is probably best seen in next pictures. The crown guard has a curved shape in the base, where the gen has a line shape. In my opinion, the font of the numbers on the bezel should be bolder. However, a green circle shows an aspect very difficult to be replicated and it has been made very well: the waves on the bezel. This second picture shows better the thinner numbers on the bezel. The pearl is shown on green, because it seems that is very well replicated, when in the majority of cases the pearl is an issue. The dial is practically perfect, having a very complicated design. Amazing! Pictures of the strap show a perfect replication. Only one picture is shown here. Be careful with the screws, it seem that gen and rep share the same problem of loosing screws. The back has several flaws and it is the worst part of this rep. However, it is a very difficult task to replicate this part, due to its difficulty. The bearing has the same problem that the rep of Hublot Big Bang has. Fortunately, this flaw can be solved following this tuto: http://www.rwgforum.com/topic/86883-modding-the-rotor-of-the-hublot-big-bang/ The blue color of the rotor seems incorrect. On the other hand, some pieces must be blue painted and they are not. The crown guard is incorrect again. Surprisingly, now the shape must be curved and it is not curved in the back of the rep. Texts on the case are very well done, but the position on the case is a bit off
  10. First a picture of two Panerais. Left, PAM 111H, right PAM 112H. Do you want to convert your PAM 111 in a 112? Then you have to remove the seconds output. Or do you have a PAM 112 and you want to use the movement for a 111? Then you have to add a seconds output. In this tutorial you will learn how to do it. How to add or to remove the seconds output of an ETA/Unitas 6497 movement. This is view of the 6497 movement of a 111 PAM (with seconds output) when the dial has been removed. Red circle shows the seconds output. It is a pin where the hand seconds is attached on. As the picture shows, there is a jewel in this seconds output. Jewels are very hard, but fragile. One of the possible tasks for removing the seconds output is just filing this output. Please, I know that some people are just filing this pin
  11. Some time ago, during a backup of RWG, some of my tutorials were lost. I am uploading them again just now... The pity is that all the valuable comments of the members of RWG are defenitively lost Francisco
  12. A friend of mine washed his IWC Slevin and after he realized that some water condensation appeared in the dial. He used the hairdryer to remove the water, unscrewing the crown, with the aim of evaporating the water. However, he was using the hairdryer during 20 minutes
  13. The Black Omega Seamaster Profesional is a simple, elegant and all-purpose watch. Follows a picture of the gen: However, the reps of this model are not satisfactory. It seems that the only way to have a decent rep is to make a Franken. In my case, I had two buy two reps and a gen dial to build a good rep. In this tuto it is explained how it was built a Franken SMP black. I hope that some of the steps shown here were useful for your franken projects. In first place, some pictures showing the two second-hand reps I bought in a rep forum. Models A and B. Next pictures show these models and their flaws. Model A has the big advantage of having the helium valve in the correct position, above 10. Very hard to get a model with the correct position. However, hands are clearly short. The font of the bezel is a bit too bold and the pearl is obviously wrong. Model B has the helium valve in the wrong position. Bezel is worse than model A. However, hands have correct length. Follows a picture of the bracelets. Model A is the speedmaster bracelet, well replicated. Model B is the Bond bracelet. Although this bracelet is correct too, it is not well replicated, it has a flat surface. Therefore, model A was choosen for the franken. The back is correct on both models. It is time to talk about the quality of the dials. After a detailed study I decided to buy a gen Omega dial from Ofrei. As I have the gen dial, now it is easy to make a comparison that it is shown in next pictures. Next picture shows the more important flaws of watch A dial. The most obvious flaw is not shown on the picture. The quality of lumen. The gen has a lot of C3 surface and it shines like a torch. Apart from the lumen problems, the text on the dial is not correct on this model, for example, the word Omega is quite big. Next picture is for watch B. The text on the dial is much better on this model. However, the lumen has a horrible green colour. In this picture the green colour is not visible, just check previous picture to see it. And, as in watch A, no real lumen in the dark. Both movements are shown on next picture, the A21j model. Both were in good health. Therefore, I just selected the watch with the closest day text font to the gen. Movement form watch A is a bit better than B in this aspect. Movement B will be for spares. Therefore, to build the franken SMP Omega: Take from Model A: case, movement and bracelet. Take from Model B: hands. The bezel insert of both models were not good enough from any model. So I bough a new one from Ebay. Although there is a chance to use an ETA movement like the gen employs, there are some problems to take into account. Some difficulties arise: how to fasten the movement to the case, ETA model has a different colour day font and the DW of the A21j is not compatible. The advantage of using an ETA movement is that the gen hands are compatible. However, rep hands are very good and were lumed with C3. This was the firs step in building the franken, luming the rep hands. The second step was cutting the dial feet. These feet are shown in next picture: The dremel with a cutting disk was the tool employed to cut the feet. To fasten the dial to the movement special stickers designed for this task are going to be employed. The stickers are shown on next picture. Cousins reference number: D0419 After removing one of the paper protectors one sticker is placed on the movement: One sticker more to get a better fastening. And the other papers are removed
  14. TAG Carrera Calibre 16 is a beautiful watch and, as we are going to check, quite similar to the gen. After few mods the watch will be very, very difficult to distinguish from gen. This is a picture of the second hand watch I bought: As this tuto shows: http://repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=49399 the breakdown of the hour counter of this watch always running was repaired. One of the most common flaws of our reps is that the date/day font is incorrect. In addition, in this watch I bought some numbers were not centred, as shown in next picture. When the watch was repaired, a gen ETA 7750 date wheel was installed. Next picture shows a comparison between gen and rep date wheels. With a bit of practice, take seconds to distinguish a rep just having a look to the date window. As the DW was changed, this flaw is solved. Follows a comparison Gen vs. Rep. It seems very hard to find a flaw. Dial, pushers, bezel, hands
  15. Servicing a mechanical movement is a complex task that consists of mainly four steps: 1.- Disassembling the movement, checking all the pieces. 2.- Cleaning the dissembled parts. 3.- Assembling and oiling. 4.- Adjusting. In this tutorial we show how to make step number 2, following an easy and cheap procedure for aficionados, employing an ultrasonic cleaning machine. Ultrasonic machines generate very high frequency waves in the liquid. These vibrations produce cavitation in the liquid, i.e., microscopic bubbles that when they explode clean the surface of the immersed object. Here I show how to make ultrasonic cleaning in the cheapest way; of course you can do it better with more expensive equipment. However, for an aficionado, I think this is enough. For example, for a professional, a specific ultrasonic machine with three glasses is a must. To illustrate the procedure I took some pictures during the cleaning of the parts of a Daytona modification, before graphite treatment. Next picture shows the pieces of the modification after disassembling. Normally, and especially in the A7750 movement, we will have several of these plastic boxes full of pieces. I recommend taking pictures of the boxes before the cleaning. Why? Because you filled the boxes following an order, and this order will help you to assemble the movement, finding easily the pieces you need in each moment. The pictures of the boxes will facilitate to put each piece in its correct location. Follows the ultrasonic machine that is going to be employed. It is a very cheap model, but makes its task decently. However, ultrasonic machines loose power with the use. Just remind this and renew your machine if it is old. For the same reason, do not buy old ultrasonic machines. This machine stops automatically after 3 minutes of being connected. Therefore, follow the list of times we are going to employ: Cleaning: 9 minutes (3 cycles). And 3 minutes (1 cycle) for each of the two rinses. As this machine only has one container, we have to exchange the liquids during the process. Therefore, we need 3 bottles and a big funnel. Bottle L. This is the bottle that has the cleaning liquid. In English should be bottle C. E1 and E2 are the bottles for the two rinses (in English better R1 and R2). About the cleaning fluid. There are specific liquids for cleaning watch movements
  16. The Ultimate Planet Ocean (UPO) is not Ultimate. The reason for this name is that previous versions were so bad, that the latest version was called Ultimate. However, you only need one second to identify an UPO as a rep. There are several big flaws. You do not need to have the genuine in front of the rep to detect these flaws. These important flaws are: 1.- No double AR. The UPO has a weak single AR. Just one second to detect the difference. However, as you know, this is fixed using one of our AR
  17. INTRODUCTION. The Asian 7750 movement, a clone of the ETA 7750, has no precision accuracy regulator. This regulator helps to obtain a better adjustment easily. However, this is not so important. With the A7750, without this precision regulator, it is possible to obtain good adjustment. The problem arises with watches where the case back is transparent. In these cases, it is very easy to detect that the watch is a replica. For example, the Hublot Bing Bang. In the webpage of Hublot there is a small tuto for distinguishing a replica, and the regulator is one of the main points to look for. A picture from this website: One of the solutions is to employ an Asian 7750 working at 21600 bph. However, this movement seems to be more problematic that the version working at 28800, with has no regulator. On the other hand, there is a new version of Asian 7750 at 28800 with has a regulator. However, this new movement is still not present in the Hublot replicas and probably is going to be more expensive. In this small tuto we show how to add a regulator to an Asian 77500 at 28800, using genuine parts of the ETA 7750. MATERIALS.
  18. The movement of PAM 111 and 112 is a piece of art. Panerai modifies a lot the movement ETA / Unitas 6497 adding some pieces and modifying others. In this tuto we modify the text
  19. Some dealers stopped selling Rolex Daytona and IWC Portuguese due to the reliability problems of their movements. Recently they are selling the watch again advertising a
  20. INTRODUCTION The original layout of the Asian 7750 movement is hour totalizer at position 6, watch seconds (no chrono seconds) at position 9 and the minute counter at position 12. However, some genuine watches do not follow this configuration. For example, one of the most elegant watches, the IWC Portuguese, has the minute counter in position 12, and the watch seconds at position 6, instead of 6. Therefore, the A7750 has been modified to be employed in the Portuguese model, and in the Daytona. This modification is made using a gear train to take the seconds from 9 to 6. However, it is known that this set of gears is not well designed. This can be seen later in this post. There are no rubies and the gear directly rest on the surface of the plate. Therefore, it is logical to find many buyers complaining about a dead Portuguese or Daytona. The problem is that there is a moment where the amount of wear is too much for the movement and the watch simply stops. This set of gears is not lubricated. Probably you think that employing good oil we can reduce the amount of wear. However, using oil to lubricate will worse the problem. A layer of oil between the gear and the plate will stick these pieces. Therefore, all the train of gears is intentionally not lubricated. The idea of using graphite lubrication is from a member of RWG, Fredyy333. Please, all the credits for him. In my opinion this technique should be applied to the movement just when it is bought, to avoid future problems. A friend of mine, Gonzalo, let me his dead Protuguese to try this new technique. Follows a picture of the watch. PROCEDURE First, the back case is opened. In the case of the Portuguese is fastened by 4 screws. Once the rotor is removed, it is possible to see that the movement is hold by 4 screws, the more exterior screws in this picture. Next step is to remove hands and dial. I am not going to show pictures here, because this has been explained many times. However, this is probably the most difficult step. Be careful. Follows a picture of the movement without the dial. There no date wheels, as the Portuguese is not using them, and there are two plates covering the movement. These two plates have the gears to move the seconds from 9 to 6. Next step is to remove three screws that hold the first plate. The next two pictures show the two faces of the first plate. There is one gear is this plate. This gear is the
  21. Yes, you are right, now no more sunken DW, previous models with sunken. Previous movement is a ETA 7750 modifed by a company... a company that I do not remember its name now. It is the same mod that the movemen of the reps (Asian 7750). Therefore, after moding the back a bit, the final result is quite close to gen. Francisco
  22. I think this this mod may be possible.... but very difficult. Red arrow in next figure shows that there is a pin that engages in an arm with three postions / holes (winding, date, set time). If you can eliminate the central position (where red arrows points to) the mod is done. But...how? The picture is for a 7750. Francisco
  23. Gen HBB employ a modifiation of the 7750 to move the minute counter from 12 to 3. It is a quite similar design to our reps. This mod produces a sunken DW. Therefore, rep is correct in this aspect. Francisco
