1. Both sets looks very nice. BTW, if some stakes are missed, you can do the following: 1.- you can buy stakes spares. For example, cousinsuk is selling bergeon spares. 2.- the stakes has to be un-tempered. 3.- turn the pin diameter to fit your rotating base. 4.- Temper again. I made that with one bergeon stakes that my set did not have it. Regards, Francisco
2. yes, concave tip with hole. the concave shape makes smaller the tube. There are sizes for hour and minute hands. A picture follows:
3. One of the possible fails of the 6497 movement is that winding does not work properly. When winding the gears only rotate part of the time. This video shows the fail: In this case, the part that is failing is the winding pinion. Reference for cousinsuk.com is UT285410 with a cost of 3 pounds + IVA + shipping. After swapping this piece the problem normally is solved. First step is to remove the crown guard:
Stem is removed: Then the movement is released and hand and dial are removed: As seen in the previous picture, the hour hand has been touching the dial.
The gear that has wear is shown by the red arrow: To remove it, normally you have to dissemble the keyless work: Here a comparison between the Asian and ETA part. ETA part in the right. You can see the wear in some tooth of the Asian pinion (red arrows). After swapping the pinion, winding works normally, as next video shows: Regards, Francisco
4. This tuto shows another application of the staking tool. Again the problem is the bad quality of some rep hands. When removing hands may happen that: 1.- The hand tube is not attached any longer to the hand. Here is explained how to repair it: 2.- The hand tube has after removing the hand has a larger inside diameter and hand is loose after re-installation. This is a common problem, especially with central chrono hand of 7750 movements. In this tuto is shown how to solve this problem with a staking tool. Follows an AP navy
5. One of the tortures of repairing reps is the quality of hands; many times this quality is very poor. Some times, when removing the hand, the hand tube is no longer attached to the body of the hand. Here follows a couple of pictures of a IWC Cousteau rep with this problem: As seen, that hand tube and its hole in the hand are extremely small. Repairing this fail is very difficult if the correct tools are not employed. I had some very bad experiences. However, by using a staking tool this task is now easy. The hand tube is placed in that skating tool, in one of the smallest holes. The tube for the output pin, upwards. The hand is placed over the tube and the correct STACK is employed, with a small hit. The hand is now repaired: Regards, Francisco.
6. One common failure of the Asian 7750 is that some tooth of the ratchet wheel are broken. In such a case the watch has very poor power reserve. Unfortunately, the ETA spare is not compatible, because pivot diameter is too large. A picture of a broken ratchet wheels follows, showing the broken teeth: The measures of the pivots for Asian and ETA ratchets follow: Asian 7750: 0.19 mm ETA 7750: 0.27 mm One approach to solve this problem is using a lathe, as shown here: Without a lathe, another approach is assembling the central part of the Asian ratchet in the gear of the ETA part. It is like making a
7. yes, I am doing that job. However, that sounds could be not a syntom of a problem. Swiss ETA sometimes is quite nosy. Regards, Francisco
8. Some advices. Stop the watch. It is extremely difficult to do it if the watch is running. Use a strong lamp top see the bottom jewel... Anyway, it is not easy.
9. I used a commercial spray lume. However, you cannot buy any longer this product in Europe. So, now, knowing that lume can be sprayed, I am going to develop the formula myself, hopefully.
10. Well, you have done everything you should to find the problem. Something is wrong and it is there.... normally it is a problem with a jewel... broken or, as you say, misaligned. If you still want to find the problem, I suggest you to change one plate each time. If after swapping plates, still not runnign well, change gears.... Regards, Francisco
11. If it was day and date wheel, here how to repair it: In your case, probably is the wire/spring that is located in the double corrector. Regards, Francisco
12. No. I used acetone because I wanted to repaint hands. If you only want to relume...do not use acetone.
13. there is a gear that has a "nose". That nose pushes the DW at midgnight. It seems that this gear is not rotating when the watch runs. I think no more can be said without inspecting the movememnt. Regards, Francisco
14. the real solution is to dissasemmbly and assembly again the keyless work. However, you can try that approach...nothing to loose.
15. I remember that I explained that approach in one forum, a lot of time ago. If you have a look to the movement... looking to the stem hole...you can see if the keyless work has a problem. If so, some levers are nor parallel to the movement face. Try to allign the lever with the tip of a screwdrivers. Some times works... hoever...this is normally a short time solution. Regards, Francisco
16. this is the process to obtain darklumen... using transparebt black paint: normal lume: black transparent paint: final result:
17. yes, i did it myself... a mixture of lume and solvent...sprayed... Francisco
18. yes, normally jewels are screwed in these old movements..so it is easy....
19. Clone ETA... spares from ETA are available and useful.... Here an example: Regards, Francisco
20. I wanted to have one of these since a long time ago. This is my first attempt. If you like it, please do not miss the following video. You cannot imagine how much light it produces: Regards, Francisco
