  1. All your base are belong to ... daunwaun. What's the frequency Keneth? This guy has got to be a troll
  2. Well, I did it. I could not resist any longer. I got out my Bergeon case back remover and took the back off my gen sub LV. I bought it new from an AD here in China two months ago and while I know full well that this is a genuine I kept getting the nagging feeling. Well, the case, dial, band etc is definately real but what if they swapped out the real Rolex movement for an ETA or Asian movement? I've heard of people having the case backs removed when buying Rolexes, in fact the AD in HK that I bought my ExpII from (yes Nanuq I actually bought one of those ) offered to remove the case back and the case opener was right at the counter. I did not see any device to ensure it's water tight. I think a lot of people pull the case back and simply re-seat case back when finished. I used to wear my LV in the shower every day but now I don't think I'll be doing that until I get back to the states some day and have an AD check it for water tight. I feel bad and I feel good that I've looked. The good is fleeting but the bad is lingering. Those of you who pull a case back and re-install (then test) what are the failure rates from the case back "O" ring? Oh well.
  3. I'm thinking about removing the back of one of my Gens just to see the movement. Anyone done this regularly and if so, any problems with the watch staying water tight?
  4. When a credit card company shuts down your card due to suspicious activity, it only takes a phone call to fix it. They don't close your card for 180 days while they "investigate". Imagine if your bank worked like paypal... You fly to HK on business and use your debit card at a shop. They shut down your debit card. You call your bank and they tell you to fax in everything including your latest blood work. You tell them you're on business and need your debit card. They tell you "too bad, we're putting a 180 day hold on your checking account and after that you're free to close your account". Hmmm.... Paypals behaviour does not seem to be as innocent as a credit card company or bank eh?
  5. As has been pointed out by others in this thread, verified means you link a bank account. I will never do that. I ALWAYS use a Credit Card. PayPal is deathly afraid of CC companies. Thankfully my CC company always takes my side Several years back I sold an Ipaq on ebay. The buyer turned out to be a fraud. The buyer was paypal verified and I made the mistake of sending it to the non verified address. The verified address however was non-existant. To make a long story short, Paypal came after me with their collection company and I simply disputed the claim (via registered mail) that their "verified" address was not a real address (so Paypal could not have verified it). I never heard from the collection agency again. About every other year Paypal will close my non verified account based on the past dispute. I simply create a new one. All I have to do is call my CC company, tell them I lost my card, get a new one, create a new gmail account and viola! I'm back in non-verified business. Paypal is a sham. Unfortunately their one of the only games in town and their backed by the cash of ebay.
  6. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Go to www.nopaypal.com and you'll get a sense of what happens next I only use paypal as an unverified memeber. I use my credit card and will never open a verified account. If they try to freeze my CC funds, well... I just call the CC company and they unleash a can-o-whoop-a$$ on them Paypal hates when the credit card companies bear down on them. Every so often I have to open a new Paypal account as they discover that I've got frozen accounts. No biggie, I just open a new one and it works for a long while. Some ebayer's won't accept payment through a non-verified account and for them I either send a check or I don't bother buying from them.
  7. I just bought an F.A. Jones (Rose gold) from a member here and I must say, it's a beautiful piece. I wanted to get a blue hand version too. I checked perfect-clones and they say the case diameter is 42mm (should be 43mm). Anyway, is the perfect-clones version 43mm? Are all versions the same?
  8. ExpII's? I always thought they were understated for a Rolex. I guess I'll have to work on your ExpII perception There's two things the current 20 to 30 year olds have brought us that I just can't deal with... rap & fat girls in thongs. Where I live now we have neither Trust me when I tell you that I follow that rule out of respect for you and all people... also any primate with eyes... fish too.
  9. I have a broken link on one of my Omega bands and I waited a couple of hours... still broken Thanks though Just kidding
  10. I'm not even going to comment on the driving here. It's soooo bad that my company won't allow me to drive. I have to have a driver, and while that sounds like a good thing... it's not. We Americans like to drive and the way they drive here, well lets just say... I use an eye shade and pop in my earphones while bring driven. Otherwise my blood pressure rises to unsafe levels. I did like the Walmart comment though (we have two here in my town). The most bizzaro thing about the Walmarts and the McDonalds is that skinny people work and shop there. Quite a contrast to the USA versions. Strangely, Pizza Hut like the hottest ticket in town. There is (no kidding) a two hour wait at dinner time each night. Before I relocated to China I loved Chinese food... China has the absolute worst Chinese food ;-)
  11. Thank god I was right about Nanuq I've got to dig up the floppy dog avitar again someday. The thing about Pam's which makes this a bit more than just "different strokes" is that they're so over the top popular. Like I said, I'm pretty much in the norm when it comes to styles and taste. Back in the early 70's I thought my parents avacado green fridge, burnt orange [censored] carpet and yellow counter tops were hideous. Turns out they were. I did find a common personality to my own in By-Tor; he said "It's like with some Rolex models. I could never wear a Rolex Yacht-Master. Just not my style. Or Omega Constellation, which is almost feminine watch. Or something like Rolex Cellini... God forbid!" I feel EXACTLY the same way about each model you mention. I also strongly agree with another sentement from By-Tor, he said "I feel PAMs (watches and fans) are important part of the community... and PAMs sure are interesting and original watches". I could not agree more. For what it's worth, I feel the same way about rap music (<-- oxymoron) and wonder if the Pam craze follows the same form of popularity. Does anyone really like it? Are the cool people perpetuating it and others just "say" they like it?
  12. ... Pam Pretender I have pretended to like Pam's... even bought a few (reps) but I can't bond with them. Do you ever get that feeling you're that one guy who can tell that the emperor is really naked? This is not a thread which should be interpreted as "Pam bashing". This is just my quest to find out how many people think the same (I think I'm pretty much in the "norm" as most things go and I'm confused why I seem so far outside on this). If you like, love or would trade your first born for a Pam... there is no need to reply. I respect your love of the brand and wish you the best with your fine purchase. I'm really interested in which personalities (of this board) don't see the beauty of this brand. I really wonder if there is a common thread in the personalities. For instance I picture Nanuq as a person who would not wear one. No need for flames
  13. I had to read the above reply a couple of times before I understood what he meant. At first I thought "heck... how many of us would have a hard time distinguishing a fake Rolex "just by looking at the movement"?
  14. It's definately a replica. He has other LV's up for sale too The Gen does not have "LV" on the hologram on the back of the watch. On one of his auctions he shows the "D" serial number. Problem is that "D" serial subs don't have the band model number stamped into the back of the band near the SEL. This one (as do the reps sold here) have the improper stamped model number near the SEL's.
  15. I'll give it a whack. Kids... you never know where you'll end up in this life. 1980-81 dishwasher (to get that first car) 1981-1982 worked at a full service gas station (to learn how to maintain the type of car you get with a dishwasher salary) 1982-1992 Dealership auto mechanic and ASE certified Master mechanic 1992 Decided I needed an Aerospace Engineering degree (who saw that coming?) 1992-1996 toughest 4 years of my life earning the Engineering degree + working nights making 486 & pentium chips at Intel (chemical vapor deposition tech). 1996 to present as an Engineer for (un-named US aero giant). Last two years living and working in China. No wife -ever- too many girls here . No kids. I do miss my dog though.
  16. DOH! http://cgi.ebay.com/2004-ROLEX-ANNIVERSARY...1QQcmdZViewItem
  17. Nice SEL's Looks like the second hand is bent and the tip is up around the 10 o'clock marker but the base is around 9 o'clock. Photo manipulation? Yuck.

Very nice indeed. I want to be in the club too...
  19. Based on his posting history, this self proclaimed "Pro" Dan sees himself to be a Watch Idiot Savant (WIS) but without that pesky Savant part (WI).
  20. There is no doubt that Rolex is overpriced (to for what you get). Since they sell everything they make every year, you can't conclude that they're overpriced from a marketing standpoint. I can tell you this; I've invested quite a lot in my rep LV and thought it was nearly indistinguishable (less the exagerated crystal coronet) but once I bought my gen... well, the fit and finish, not to mention the overall appearance are stunningly different. I have a harder time telling my rep ExpII (with its hand stack flaws) from my gen ExpII than I do the gen vs. rep LV. I'm also quite taken with the genuine's +.7 sec/day time keeping.
  21. I could not help but notice that Linder is from Arkansas.... The girl next door is likely a relative in need of shoes and dental care Note (for the sensitive). Just joking around. If offended... please unread.
  22. Where does one get the "Davidsen" replacement?
  23. The Chinese says (at top) Italy (at bottom) don't have address West Road #2 room 416. My girlfriend is Chinese (Fancy that... I live in China). She read the Chinese for me. <== lol "red chinese" I like to tell her she's beautiful, smart and has a great future... but... she's incapable of driving. I thought it was just a stereotype before I moved here. It's not...
  24. Two problems with the above. The first is that you run a bigger risk than duty when bringing two Rollies into the USA. According the US customs page, two or more Rollies is a voilation of the Rolex trademark. You can lose them both. Secondly, the duty is not 10%. The last Rolex I brought back (purchased overseas) cost me less than $75 duty on a $4,000 watch. I have a home in the USA and one in China. When I travel into the USA, I bring a copy of the purchase reciepts plus any duty receipts (for those watches purchased outside the USA) for the watches I carry. I'm not bold enough to bring both my Rolex watches at the same time (even with purchase and duty receipts).
