Hello,

I have a lot of rare parts in my "parts for future watches" box and I am thinking of what to do next.

Two watches came in mind.

1.) The Submariner 5513, pointed crown guard, gilt dial.

This is on my list for two reasons, both related to the dial: It is glossy and golden :D. With a little aged dial and hands, a bleached insert and a rivet bracelet this would be a stunner.

PRO:

+older

+probably more style with the pointed crown guards, the riveted bracelet and the gilt dial.

+No date wheel to mess with

CONTRA:

-correct crown twinlock 700 is a lot more difficult to source.

-date watches are more practical.

2.) Sea-Dweller 1665, the great white.

Always wanted to have one.

PRO:

+shows date

+crown, tube and bracelet are easier to source

+ultra professional watch

CONTRA:

-less style

-correct silver datewheel is a little difficult to get.

Which would you prefer on your wrist?

At the moment I like the idea of having a 5513 more, so it gets my vote.

Please help my with my decission :)

Yes, why does it have to be either, or....

If you can only do one, the easier, less headache route is the 5513 (minus the twinlock crown as you noted). You remind me how much I miss my 5513 with 369 gilt dial, now pointed CG's would have been the finishing touch! Lord knows I love my 1665 and the date is practical for sure but no date subs are just the perfectly balanced Rolex IMO.

Here's something to whet your 5513 appetite:

5513 is a classic; gilt PCG's take it that much further.

1665 is also a fantastic piece. The thick case... The HeV...

Okay, for me, it would be a combo of the two; a 5514 non-COMEX dialed Sub.

Today, I would go with the 5513 because of its smaller presence. Tomorrow, the 1665 because of its slightly larger presence. Sunday, who knows. Both are equally great watches & whichever you choose (assuming you cannot do both), you will probably regret not having done the other (until you do).

I'll vote for the 5513 with the 3,6,9, dial for its simplistic beauty. Here is my budget 5513 made from a standard issue rep from Silix. Nato style bands look great on these. ^_^

I vote:

Middle with Rivet:

Just need to age the pearl and fade the insert.

7206 Rivet already installed.

You can't be the only one with a "To die for 5513".....I see your play...a little mis-direction....I like it :whistling:

Ahhhh.... pointy smointy, I really do like the 1665 :whistling:

I am still not sure which one I should build next.

The 5513 is very tempting, but considering the fact, that I preordered the WM9 Sea-Dweller earlier this year it would be nice to have a vintage Sea-Dweller, too. With a Eurotimez V5 I then could have all three :)
