thogaa Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Here's sort of a review of my new Vintage Military Submariner. Movement: Swiss ETA 2836-2 25J 28800bph (I hope) Arrived on time - no customs hassle. During unpacking the bezel insert came off - But seeing how little glue that held it I am actualle pleased with having the chance to secure it rather than loosing it paragliding over Grand Canyon. That being done the rep is ready to wear Or at least if you've got the wrist of a 5 year old Luckily I had an old Bond G10 20mm in the sock drawer Me like the bulky plexi crystal All in all a fairly good rep for the money I think. The lume is awful - almost none at all but I guess on a gen of this age it would have faded anyways
Utheman Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Looking good thogaa! What dealer did you get it from? ww

jmb Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Looks good! Since the insert fell out this would be the perfect time to make sure it's recessed properly before gluing it back down.
Star69 Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 congrats ! now beat it up cheers, Frank

TeeJay Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Nothing like a little vintage Once it's been smacked up a bit, it'll be perfect

thogaa Posted November 27, 2009 Author Report Posted November 27, 2009 i meant more in a natural way .... looks like your too inpatient but looks good cheers, Frank I'll polish it some more tomorrow and hurl some bleach at the bezel. Somehow I think a natolike strap in aged leather might look good By the way sewing machine is fine I used an anvil and 5 bricks in the dryer :-) Here's what our Swedish friends use
highoeyazmuhudee Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 drill out those lug holes, the outline is already there.
Star69 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 drill out those lug holes, the outline is already there. please not check out the gen version of this watch. cheers, Frank
freddy333 Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Frank is right - no lug holes. Military Sub 5517 has fixed (non-removable) bars for strap.
jmb Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 The whole washer thing seems a bit extreme...

thogaa Posted November 28, 2009 Author Report Posted November 28, 2009 The whole washer thing seems a bit extreme... I think that would work even without the sewing machine though
thogaa Posted November 28, 2009 Author Report Posted November 28, 2009 Did some more work on the vint
thogaa Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 I learned that chlorine is quite good to age the ring - but I made my bezel on the SM300 FUBAR - Must order new one
marinamm20 Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 it is looking good Thogaa, how did you aged the insert ? and what did you do to make the case look used ?` BR jesper
thogaa Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 it is looking good Thogaa, how did you aged the insert ? and what did you do to make the case look used ?` BR jesper Mess up Recipe: 240 grain sandpaper for the edges 400 grain for the case back and some 1500 wet for the crystal and rest of the case. Then I stirred it around in a bucket of screws, bolts and nuts for a good 10 minutes before spraying matte black stove enamel on it and finishing with a dremel polish. That's about it. I removed the bezel ring - leaving the insert in place and dumped it into a cup of urine - no wait - chlorine for app 10 minutes. Rinsed it in water and put it back on. Be sure to do this in baby steps - If you leave it in the chorine too long it will look like this:
