JoJo35 Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 Found this one recently and had to have it... For the few other vintage gen enthusiast here, I'm sure you'll appreciate this little gem. 1,13X,XXX serial, putting production somewhere in the summer or early fall of '64. I think this piece must have spent most of its life in a watch box, because the case is superb, with sharp edges, nice thick lugs, and a rare gloss dial that's to die for. 14k throughout, this 1002 is powered by a 1030 that still sparkles like a brand new movement.
alligoat Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 Absolutely Beautiful, JoJo. That dial and case are certainly pristine! But I am surprised that it has a 1030 in it from 1964. I recently bought a gold shell Air-King from 1959 w/ a 1530 in it.
JoJo35 Posted December 3, 2009 Author Report Posted December 3, 2009 I agree Alligoat, it is odd. In fact, the caseback has ref 6564 stamped on it, and the movement is definitely a 1030 that still looks new. Serial and Ref between the lugs is confirmed. The dial even has that classic '63-'64 signature
coolfire Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Regardless, it IS a Beauty indeed! Absolutely pristine one too! Great find, JoJo35!
vlydog Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 how lucky can one man be? Beautiful as always B.
alligoat Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Yep, JJ, I missed your signature underline! I was reading about 1030's being in watches in the early 60's earlier this week, I believe it was the Explorers- cant'remember the ref. #'s - 6650, 6653... I even took notes on my desk pad because I can't remember these early #'s! Same old Rolex story- they used whatever they had back in the old days...
TeeJay Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Wow, that really is a beauty Congrats on an awesome find
maulermacall@hotmail.com Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 that's a timeless beauty, did you find it online?

Cubeistan Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Beautiful find You walking on the sidewalk and spotted something shiny?
Guest Carl Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 Beautiful! And the strap is a perfect match. Thanks, Carl
robertk Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 The classiest of vintage Rolex's. what a great find. Congratulations and wear it well!
JoJo35 Posted December 5, 2009 Author Report Posted December 5, 2009 Thanks everyone, this certainly is worth keeping. My next step of course will be a complete service from the master.
dluddy Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 I'm starting to think you knocked off a Brinks Truck B Another beauty
freddy333 Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 Another great find, JoJo. I realize it is sacrilege, but, considering the color of the index marker lume, I would be tempted to relume the hands to match. With a formal watch in such pristine condition, I think the darkened hand lume detracts much more than it adds (on a tool watch, the opposite tends to be the case).
lanikai Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 Great find JJ..love the lined dial.. Your genuine vintage collections grows still .. AC/Lani
Shundi Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 Thanks everyone, this certainly is worth keeping. My next step of course will be a complete service from the master. I need the master to service my favorite watch- my 1002! Someday I'll get through on his PM-or have one of you lads recommend me
chubbchubb Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 Another great find, JoJo. I realize it is sacrilege, but, considering the color of the index marker lume, I would be tempted to relume the hands to match. With a formal watch in such pristine condition, I think the darkened hand lume detracts much more than it adds (on a tool watch, the opposite tends to be the case). +1 ... the lume comes across like a big rusty screw on a factory new Ferrari. This beauty deserves better.
JoJo35 Posted December 5, 2009 Author Report Posted December 5, 2009 ...sacrilage of course, reluming a rare genuine vintage watch is simply foolish. The hands on this 34mm watch are tiny, and what can be seen in pictures that are blown up 100+ times aren't even visible when viewed in person.
