jmb Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Date??? DATE??? WE DON'T NEED NO STEENKING DATE!!! Looking nice!
Cats Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Looks great Slarti , i was just about to mail you if you had the time to update your design. Again i'm not an expert but this one looks great to me. I think i will change my 1680 back to a RED one sometime. Just a little remark the yellow colour is a bit the yellow if you ask my opinion. Great work . Carpe Diem Cats
Slartibartfast Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Third draft, now with metres first, as many have requested. All previous suggestions now incorporated (I think). Any other comments, or are we ready to print???
pane100 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Third draft, now with metres first, as many have requested. All previous suggestions now incorporated (I think). Any other comments, or are we ready to print??? The triangle of the 12 must be a bit higher and wide:
Slartibartfast Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 compare: Wow! Then we're there then!
TeeJay Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Third draft, now with metres first, as many have requested. All previous suggestions now incorporated (I think). Any other comments, or are we ready to print??? Comparing that to this: I would say that the tip of the triangle needs to be extended a little further towards the coronet, and the top widened very slightly, so the tips of the triangle are slightly passed the 59 and 1 second markers (take the distance currently between the tip of the triangle and the coronet, divide it by 3, and use that '3rd' as what needs adding onto each side of the triangle ) Other than that, spot on PS If you wanted to get really precise, move the 'Swiss' to the left so that the 'i' is in line with right hand side of the 31 second marker, and the back of the last 'S' is in line with the left edge of the 6 rectangle. The <T25 are perfectly aligned
Slartibartfast Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Ok, ok. This is all good feedback. I will fettle a little more. No harm in getting this just right! Who knows, we could end up with a winner.
Cats Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Great work slarti. If you adept the remarks above i think i'm in for a change of my white to a red again. Keep us posted. Carpe Diem Cats
modelizer Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Awesome work Slarti! Maybe just make the "SWISS - T<25" text a little wider? Other than that (and the previous comments) you are good to go IMHO!
marsupilami Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 the serifs of L and E in ROLEX should look a bit to the right. they are too straight up
Cats Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Hi Slarti, any news on the progress of the RED dial. I have to prepare my white mentaly for the color change Carpe Diem Cats
slickdick Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Dont forget the flat op A's in OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE
Slartibartfast Posted May 14, 2010 Author Report Posted May 14, 2010 Hi Cats Not touched this project for a while, too many work comitments taking my time. But, will have another tinker with it this weekend and re-post when done. Need to find someone who can print these out somehow. My HP deskjet is mono only. We need colour capability. Anyone???
Slartibartfast Posted May 14, 2010 Author Report Posted May 14, 2010 Dont forget the flat op A's in OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE Sure, slickdick. Noted. Will add to the list.
Slartibartfast Posted May 16, 2010 Author Report Posted May 16, 2010 Right, here we are again, with what I think is the amalgamation of everone's comments so far... I have also used a pic of a gen dial from an ebay sale, from which I have remodelled the ROLEX font. I think it has all come together quite well. Any further comments, or do I have a thumbs up?
TeeJay Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 The SWISS - <25 needs to be wider, but other than that, I'd say you're there The triangle looks spot on I saw your comment about color printers, is this going to be printed so that the red text is actually printed red on the decal?
Slartibartfast Posted May 16, 2010 Author Report Posted May 16, 2010 Thanks TeeJay, and slickdick Keep the comments coming, and I'll hoover them all up in one go. We'll get there in the end, no doubt!
TeeJay Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Anytime, I think this is going to really look the business when it's done
Slartibartfast Posted May 16, 2010 Author Report Posted May 16, 2010 I saw your comment about color printers, is this going to be printed so that the red text is actually printed red on the decal? I am thinking that is the way to go with this dial, as the red background for the SUBMARINER 'clear' text in the transfer would have to be so close to the SUPERLATIVE (etc. etc.) text that it would be a bugger to align. Problem is, I don't have (or have access to) a colour laser printer with a minimum 1200dpi resolution.

I see what you mean there, it would certainly require some precision work if it was going to be painted beneath the decal, but I'm sure it'll look great as you've planned
