Opinions on dealers selling "serviced" watches

Some dealers are offering to "service" the movement on new replicas for $100-110.

Seeing as how some members paid $50 to have their watches "waterproofed" only to discover that nothing was done to improve the water resistance of their watch, does this make any sense? It doesn't to me.

This is not to say the movement in a replica shouldn't be serviced. The question is, should you pay a dealer to do it for you?

+1 save your money. Find a local rep-friendly watch shop, or use someone like Zig, Vac, et. al.

Hint: (and not to be stereotypical), but find a local Asian run "Watch & Jewelry" "Fix-It" repair shop. Often times in malls. NOT a KIOSK. These shops will generally work on anything rep/gen as long as they are getting paid. In my case, there is an older, experienced guy at the one by me who just pressure tested my 5513 for $5.00 on good quality equipment. He also sports an old-school Vibrograph like Zig's!

Movement service gets a little trickier based on their knowledge and training. YMMV. If the watch is a "keeper" / "grail" stick with out trusted guys. ;)

Great advice Ronin. So I found a watch repair shop in my nearby mall.. but it's run by a black family... What do you reccomend I do Ronin???? If they're not asian... will they break my watch?

If that's true "it's run by a black family" , why would they break your watch? A watchsmith is a watchsmith! or Are you just pullin' Ronin's leg? Peace :victory:

after dealing with a rep dealer for 2 years , I paid $ 40 for a ETA movement service with a explorer.

I cant really tell but it does seems to run smoother.

BUt really it was the only watch I ever paid with the movement service.

It is better ( just like cars ) to have the job done with a watchsmith you know. Even though it may

be hard to find.

Yes i was! Just poking fun at the fact that he said we should look for "asian" run watch shops in malls. I just like bustin balls sometimes! haha.. I actually do agree with him though :)
