guanaco
maybe you dont care because you are not balding No, I just realized that becoming bald isn't necessarily a bad thing. I could start going bald any day so I accepted the reality of things.
maxman
Let me introduce you to my best friend: It's all relative. I decided a long time ago that if my hair started to go, I would just embrace the hairless look. It started its retreat, and one day on a trip to the barbershop I made the decision to crop it real short. Upon coming home, my wife declared that it made me look like a member of the "Hitler Youth." I concentrated on the "Youth" part and took it as a compliment. She has now done a 180 and says real short hair makes me look like Brad Pitt (trust me, I don't). So, as I said, it's all relative. Don't let your mother determine what looks good on you. Or, you could always go retro and rock this look, and no one will be the wiser: Coffee Is now all over the keyboard, thanks
Toadtorrent
The Sidways Sweep...that adds a few years to fighting PMB. I don't know what I would do...as I don't think I could pull off the bald or buzz cut look...but when you have no choice...you have no choice... maxman
I have had a decent head of hair most of my life, but about four years ago It started to thin a little on top. I noticed this area about the size of a quarter where I could see my scalp,I freeked Well I started doing some research and found two Hair loss forums,Hairloss talk and Hairloss help. These are the two biggest hair loss forums around. The first thing I tryed was Rogain, I had a tearable reaction to It,swollen eyes and puffy face, not good, had to stop taking It.I read a lot of negative comments about propecia,so I decided to skip It. I then started doing a lot of research on a natural approach, some said It would help, some said It would not. Well I gave a try and Im glad I did. I started this fight against my hairrloss In Dec/07.(Diet) I started eating a more natural diet, whole foods/organic/ a lot of brown rice, fruits and veggies, ect.(suplements) I take a daily mega vitamin, Omega fish oil, Saw Palmetto,Calcium, and Biotin. I also try to drink around 64oz bottled water a day.(shampoos) Mon-Wed-Fri Nizoral 1% the other days,Nexus for thinning hair.I also do "scalp messages" every other night or so,this helps to Increase blood flow to the scalp, healther scalp, healther hair. I dont know how much It helps but It sure does feel good This has been my regimen for almost three years. Have I grown any new hair?? I dont think so but It has indeed slowed down my hair loss. My hair was looking like [censored] there for a while, lifeless and limp, kind of whispy. My hair looks much better now, It is thicker and that thin spot on top of my head Is barely noticable. The girl that cuts my hair has also seen a change. I was also finding some hair on my pillow and In the shower, not anymore. The reason many regimens dont work for people is because they give up after a few months. The truth Is that one should give whatever there trying at least 12 months before they deside If It's working or not. If after 12 months you see no Improvements, well then It probably safe to say "It's not going to work". I did not notice any changes In my hair for about 8 months, after that I could see that my hair was becomming healther and thicker. Great toppic Dani, I was actually thinking of starting the same toppic a few weeks back. There is some very good infomation In this thread, thanks everyone

If you look good bald then cool, me I prefer hair over being bald ANY DAY..So people that are not experiencing hairloss cant really say anything, trust me your reaction will not be what you think as hairloss is not something that happens over night its drags out like some evil spell. It's true, most people who have nice thick hair dont understand how balding can effect someone, specialy young guys. It can cause severe depression In some people. Stem cell research Is the furture of hair loss I believe, looks very promising, good luck to all of us who are follicular challenged. PeteM
I agree there Max... Had a mate I have known for years started to thin out around 21, of course we all took the [censored] as you do at that age but he always gave as good as he got ...... after a few months of that ribbing he tried to end it.. we never realised how much it effected this guy as it never appeared to upset him in that way. I myself started losing it many years ago but my hair has always been short and although I certainly dont have the looks being a baldy really doesnt bother me but Ican now understand how it effects others. I found out an interesting fact a few years back which I believe to be true... I had always assumed that as my Dad was bald I too would be bald but apparently the rule of thumb is the opposite to what you might think. If your Mums dad was bald then so will you be, the baldness gene is carried by the female to the next generation not the male !!! Thankfully my wifes dad had a full head on hair till the day he went and my son has exactly his hair in terms of forehead line and crowns etc.. thankfully The only cure, if you can call it that, that I know of is transplant. I know as well that your hair doesnt fall out ....all your hair folicules are still there in your head, the gene that makes you bald just makes those follicules forget to grow!!! maxman
sorry to here about your mate Pete.I know hair loss can be very hard on some. Lets face it,when we are young It's all about getting as much pussy as we can,I know It was for me. It can be difficult on some guys to approach women,It hurts there confidence. But as I have grown older i know that there are many more Important things in life than ones hair. For example my friend Mat who is realestate attorney Is In a wheel chair. He was driving home from college for the hollidays. He fell asleep behind the wheel and hit a tree. He was only 19 with a football scholarship,he Is now 36 and will most likely spend the rest of his life In a wheel chair,he can use his right arm and some of his left. Mat has a beautiful thick head of hair that he would be happy to give up to have the use of his legs again. We have lunch once/twice a month. I am always reminded that things could be so much worse than they are. Sorry about going on for so long but It's true,It's just hair, It dosent define who and what we are, some good Infomation Pete, thanks
PeteM
Although its a very unfortunate way to show just how unimportant baldness came be in the greater scheme of things... it really brings home that baldness should be treated more as a character trait rather than an affliction.... As you say Max, women are much more astute than we sometimes give them credit for when it comes to liking the opposite sex.... personally I always found that putting a smile on their face and food in their stomachs got me further than good looks and hair... I am sorry to hear about your friend and what some may see as a lost opportunity but I hope he has learned to adapt and enjoy what he does have and the opportunities that still lay ahead... Give him my best wishes Its always a stark reminder that no matter how hard or difficult life may seem there is always someone worse off and usually they make you feel ashamed to be feeling sorry for yourself by their positive mental attitude and outlook on life generally.... On a lighter note I always wonder if you kept meeting these people who are worse off in increasing ways as to who would be waiting at the end of the scale and what their problem/s might be !!?? Dani
as you guys say, hairloss is the lesser of problems in life..We should all agree on that or we would just be some self-centred [censored]. I love my hair thats my problem I feel,Its like when I got bad eye sight(thanks computer screen) I hated glassed( some look GREAT me NOT ) and using lenses damn touching my eyes everyday NO OPTION, thankfully their was laser eye treatment to correct my eyes so no need for lenses or glasses but 5k

Well Pete I guess Im as guilty as anyone when It comes to vanity or material things, nice house, cars cloths, watches etc. But when I have lunch with Mat and I see how he struggles to take a bite of salad or a sip of coffee(he has to use a straw) It makes me stop and really think about whats really Important In life.I can get caught up In life(self centerd) like anyone else and my perspective becomes skewed. When I leave Mat and walk to my car Im gratful that I can walk. I never really thought about things like that before,I took my good health for granted. I love my hair like Dani but I need to keep "things" In there proper place,at least In my head. Also like Dani, my focus now Is to keep what I have as long as I can. The other funny thing Is some of the best looking girls I see are with guys with shaved or really short hair,I guess these guys know how to put a smile on there face and a fine meal In there stomach, makes sense to me Mike

juz
As most people have said you only have one option- shave it off!! Go as short as you can and throw away your wet shaver a skin head with no facial stubble is not good!. I lost my hair at 20 so have a fair bit of experience! Get some decent clippers and make sure you do a good job, absolutely no 'long bits' anywhere, they are what makes it look terrible. A bit of a tan helps, once a week in the sun shower for 5mins should be enough. Hope this helps! Justin Edited November 12, 2010 by juz
maxman
I visit the hair loss forums from time to time and have been reading a lot of positive reviews about Toppik(concealer) hair building fibers. I did quite bit of research and It seems that most people love the stuff. I have this thining area thats about the size of a quarter on the right side of my crown.I was hoping to find something that would help cover it up a bit. So I orderd a .36oz container of medium brown fibers from Amazon for $21.00. All I can say is this stuff really works well. I used It for the very first time this weekend. I dryed my hair as usual then shook a little of the fibers over the thining area,I could not believe how well it blended in with the rest of my hair, very natural looking. The fibers are made of 100% Keratin, exactly what are hair is made of,great product. There Is a ton of Infomation/videos available on Toppik,so do some research and maybe give It a go. Fantastic product Imho, good luck Mike
sul
Pretty much nothing works on the front. I used combined Minoxidil (Rogaine) and Finasteride (Propecia) until a couple of years ago which stopped hairloss and helped grow back some at the back (of my head).... Damn...Propecia side effects: Propecia I will be bold also probably during next 10 years( I am 33 today), my hair are quite soft, my dad is bold I will be also. But what a hell, if no hair then no hair, no problem anymore on windy days. I probably do care a little, I try to avoid hair loss if possible but I will check carefully what I will use or eat.... Propecia, if with Propecia you will got limp di...k[censored] problem , then thank you, NO. I will live without my hair in future.

If your mums dad was bald then yes you will be. check your mums dads hair line and texture not your dads This Is not 100% true Pete. Most doctors agree that It can come from either side. Hairloss Is a funny thing(not funny ha ha )but not easy to understand,so many variables. Take to brothers for example(Harry&William) one has a thick full head of hair and the other will most likely be a full blown Norwood 5-6 by thirty. Even the so called experts dont claim to understand everything behind hairloss. We know that It's In the genes, but sometimes that gene skips a generation. I guess It's the luck of the draw mate.
