JoJo35
Nice piece. I know I've seen bracelets like this before... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-ROLEX-DOUBLE-RED-SEADWELLER-1665-PATENT-PENDING-/140470831702?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item20b4b6ca56
redwatch
Oh wow!!! Very very nice piece indeed! And look!! A fantasy clasp......hmmm.....I think I have one of those thanks to a great member here
freddy333
Yep. The head looks gen, but that bracelet............ Interestingly, the seller's link supporting his assertion of the bracelet's authenticity is missing. My gut tells me the seller is well aware of the bracelet's east-of-Geneva provenance. Still, I have NEVER seen that clasp on a known-gen Rolex, nor have I ever seen that clasp on a riveted bracelet. Actually, on 2nd thought, the seller may not know. dieselpower
I once showed a rep rolex clasp (same as the one on this watch) to a well respected dealer and he just laughed. He said Rolex had never made a clasp with the crown in that position.
alligoat
Ah, but what about the story on VRF about the water polo team which had the 5513's with that clasp. I like the crown on the water polo watch better.
freddy333
Seller's bracelet (note the metal finish, stampings & mangled end link hinges) My gen 7206 (left) next to the Asian-made rep (right). Note the evenly sized 7-2-0-6 numbers & the straight-across '80' on the gen versus the differing sizes & angled '80' on the rep. Also, note that the underside of the gen bracelet is polished, while the rep (& seller's bracelet) is brushed. Of course, we also see the tell-tale mangling of the end link hinge, which is a sure sign of musical end links And yet the seller's end links look gen. Looks to be a franken rep bracelet -- gen end links on a rep bracelet.
Jkay
The link isn't missing. It's just screwed up. Delete the word "Everything" from the end of the URL and it will be repaired. http://www.nippledial.com/2008/05/prototype-bracelet.html
freddy333
Thanks for the link. Although the jury's still out regarding the clasp (which I remain unconvinced about), the underside of Mr. Nipple's bracelet looks gen, while the seller's looks exactly like my bracelet from Yuki. TeeJay
On the seller's bracelet, the spacing is 720 6 (exagerated to illustrate) I'm not sure if that means anything, but the metal of the bracelet links looks much newer than the metal of the end pieces. Might it be, that the seller bought the watch after the Fantasy Bracelet was installed, and the original owner neglected to mention that the bracelet was an aftermarket installation? CaptainJack
Is it just me or does the bezel and insert seem off? I don't know, just looks to modern. Jack
freddy333
Bezel/insert do look modern, but they also look gen. Maybe recent gen replacements? Same with the case, could be a well-preserved gen or aftermarket. Hard to tell. But that bracelet definitely has problems. And you know what they say - Where there's smoke, there's fire. Prsist
$200k? I knew DRSDs were up there in price but not that high.
TeeJay
Here's my guess of the situation: Guy A has a watch. Over time, he might replace a damaged bracelet with an aftermarket replacement, but as far as he's concerned, it's still 'a real Rolex', as he's only put a new strap (which still says Rolex ) on his 'real Rolex' watch. and he later sells this watch as such, on to Guy B, who doesn't know any better than to accept Guy A at his word that it's 'a real Rolex'. Guy B is now selling the watch under the same misconception he purchased it under. Or, he might just know exactly what the watch is all about, and trying to pull a fast one... JIFF
But that bracelet definitely has problems. Case has big problems... It has been polished over and over again...
theblueprince
Is this not the same PP DRSD that was on Ebay for the same price a year or so ago?
theblueprince
$200k? I knew DRSDs were up there in price but not that high. They're not ususally that high...it's cause it's a Patent Pending model.
Prsist
They're not ususally that high...it's cause it's a Patent Pending model. Patent pending are the ones without HV right? How many were produced? In collaboration with Comex right?
alligoat
Patent pending are the ones without HV right? How many were produced? In collaboration with Comex right? Patent pending have a HE valve, it was just before Rolex had received a patent for it. I'm not sure how many were produced- maybe 50-100, maybe less. Many were trashed out in diving. This one isn't a collaboration with Comex per se- the ones with the Comex dial were built for Comex. Much of the feedback Rolex got in developing this model came from Comex. This case has been polished and looks pretty thick to me, esp. at the bezel.
JIFF
This case has been polished and looks pretty thick to me Are you serious? The lugs are polished "round"... Bezel is a replacement for sure!
Dizzy
He'll never get $200k for that thing. It must have been through service somewhere.. insert and pearl dont match the dial and hands, and shouldnt the datewheel be silver? Looks white to me. If it was sent to RSC then there should be paperwork mentioning the bracelet?? dizz
specialvat
So I should not use these pics as a reference of the real deal, shame good pics. Thanks to all for pointing out its problems.
