Pugwash
Back when I wrote my photo tutorials, I said don't use a phone to take photos. Times have changed so I wanted to see what sort of quality you can get with an iPhone and a light tent. I think the answer is "as good as a point-and-shoot" now. dbutlerman
With the iPhone 5 4 - I totally agree - and if you attach a loupe to it - you can even get macros...

Jkay
Taken, hand-held, at sunset w/ iPhone 3GS ..I love how it captured the lume glow. The "grain" on the crystal is just sweat which I didn't wipe properly.

Nanuq
Who says you need a tripod and light tent? Just hang it in a tree or chuck it out on the ground and click.
dbutlerman
not bad, but i still wouldnt say "as good as a point and shoot" just yet. I'd say better than some but not all too. But definitely the best point and shoot I've ever had...
Nanuq
A lot depends on the artist too. Here's what my daughter can do with my cheap point and shoot. Took her 2 seconds to turn, compose and click.
dbutlerman
Agreed - my wife is the same way. I can't compose a shot for my life - but the woman has mad skills This was taken with a Digital SLR but it was in Auto mode...does that count as Point and Shoot? projectologist
iPhone files are big enough you can do some pretty tight cropping... and I still reduced the file size by 50% after the crop.

Pugwash
I love the color and atmosphere of this capture. Care to share the processing used? Camera+ "Clarity" filter. The rest was done in the lens. It got me second prize in a competition, too.

projectologist
Camera+ "Clarity" filter. The rest was done in the lens. It got me second prize in a competition, too. Thanks and congrats! I'm surprised that the Clarity filter was used. With a lot of my attempts using it, the results looked overdone because of the lack of a slider that's available with some of the other efex. It worked perfectly with your file.

That's because I shot it for the filter.
