I went for another hike tonight, and the Fall colors are getting better and better! No snow yet but we're freezing at night now.

Good thing that was a little bitty black bear poo. I hate finding the great big brown bear piles with the fingers and toes still in them.

Nothing much, I put a bear bell on the dog and leave my phone on in my pocket (so it can be located). Other than that just pay attention to what's all around and no worries.

I believe that unless you surprise a bear by walking up on it while it's distracted, that they normally just run away on their own as soon as they hear you coming. That's the purpose of a bear bell.

Very nice and educational. Bear poo isn't how I would have pictured it... Is that a normal example, or do you think this came out of a constipated bear?

Oh, if you look at the Bristol Stool Scale (yeah, such thing exists, google it), that's a very good example of Type 2. So not the typical healthy bear poo.

Yes they say you should wear bells and carry pepper spray.

It also pays to be able to recognise bears by their droppings, black bear stools look like the one above and often contain berries and small animal bones.

Poplar bear stools are much lager and contain bells and smell of pepper.....

Anyway....they are lovely pic's of the snowflake nanuq.
