StormTooper4
Just saw this on w247 Seriously that is insane Money . Think the factories really need to step their game up . I guess those missing 2mm's off the end mean that they can chuck a few 00's on the end of the price --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Panerai OEM Pre Vendom Calf strap with PVD logo buckle 24/22 mm: $18,800 USD This is a Pre Vendom strap and buckle made for a 5218 pre vendom model Panerai. Circa 1992-1996. This strap is is very rare because it tapers from 24 mm to 22 mm. Most pre vendom straps did not taper and measured 24/24. This was either a special order strap or one of the first tapered model straps created by Panerai. Although this strap has seen a lot of wrist time, there is plenty of life left in this strap and it has tons of character! Highly collectible in its own right! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mental

krpster
Yes, that is insane. Just can't wrap my head around that.
Watchmeister
It takes all kinds. $18k for a strap that they can't even directly date.
Jurgenk
Wow my thoughts exactly. If I had the nerve to claim that vintage and value, I'd have at least a letter of authenticity from OP, or whomever can vouch for pre vendome items in an official capacity. Watchmeister
And yes someone should rep it. It is kind of cool but more like $200 cool. It is not like it is difficult to find 14 year old leather.
Jurgenk
HK Tan has made something just like this using material from an abandoned sofa -- just need to burn OP on it... Also, I disagree with the terminology of vintage in reference to things that are 15 years old-- unless extremely rare that's just plain used. Now if the seller is claiming this is THE prototype of the 24/22 strap that's another matter, but that's going to be tough to prove.
w0lf
I don't even think this should be repped.. Why? Don't we have enough really excellent staps already?
chefcook
...unless extremely rare ... Those straps are extremely rare. But still the price is insane. Last of those straps I saw sold for around $1.5k
atomic_doug
This strap is being sold to exactly one tiny group of people: the clique on Paneristi. Those guys' entire social pecking order is based around how much pre-V stuff they have like this. When they get into their high school girl level flame-wars, the mods will always side with the guy who has more pre-V stuff, because they're the popular kids. A few months ago a guy spent three hundred dollars for a plastic "Panerai" hang-tag that came on the new watches, just to complete his boxes and papers set. Should a strap like this be repped? Ugh. no. The buckle is already repped, the dimensions and manufacturing techniques of the strap is known. The rest of it is just old, sweaty leather. If you ever want your leather strap to quickly look like that, just wear it while going for a run in the middle of summer.
thogaa
That's just crazy. How much would the whole cow be worth?
louky
Rediculus price !!
centaur
Guys, you're totally missing the point. Sure a 24/24 version would be just like any other strap out there and should cost just as much, but for 18 grand you get a sweet taper and 2 mm less material at the tip! Highly collectible in its own right!
