jmb Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Out of curiosity I ordered one of the fleabay $89 Snowflake Date dials and got it in last week. Today I finally got around to cobbling it together and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. This started life as a Cartel 5512 and has only some simple mods. Here's the build facts: Case - Cartel 5512/5513 case with CGs trimmed and slimmed. Crystal - Clark 25-125 Hands - Fleabay Movement - DG2813 from Borel Dial - Fleabay Bracelet - Stock Cartel bracelet that came on the 5513 Crown - Gen Tube - Yuki I glued the dial and spacer to the movement, broached the ETA hour/minute hands and crimped the sweep hand. I have not found any specific a21j Snowflake hands yet or I would not have broached the ETA set. But, I'm pretty happy with the hand length on these so I guess it was worth a little extra effort. The build was straight-forward with nothing new or exotic to expound upon so here's a couple pics of how it turned out - just a few 'cause the Cartel case has been flogged to death since it's release. This is more about the dial than the build.
AsiadeCuba Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 looks good j. that sure beat my built that was hundreds more.
redwatch Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Wow J!!! That's one of the better snow flakes I've seen yet!!! Very well done!!
krpster Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Nice build. Looks pretty good for a cobbled piece.
HaydenM Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 If you dont mind me asking, what was the aprox. total cost?
superlative Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 That magnification on the date looks kinda huge.
jmb Posted March 8, 2012 Author Report Posted March 8, 2012 That magnification on the date looks kinda huge. Yeah, it is, but I like it. I can actually read the date without looking for my specs... Hayden - probably a little over $200...
chiman12 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 You are the King J...what are your thoughts on the dial in terms of accuracy?
jmb Posted March 8, 2012 Author Report Posted March 8, 2012 Chi, it seems very close when compared to the pictures I've compared it to. These hands, also, seem to be very nice concerning length and the "bubble" placement on the sweep hand. I think for $89 it's a super buy...
jmb Posted March 8, 2012 Author Report Posted March 8, 2012 Thanks, K, I feel pretty happy with it for not using a high-dollar "professionally refinished" dial! Putting an extremely magnified shot of this dial next to a close-up of the "Jewelery and Watch" dial ($265 +shipping) I can see no difference...
prospex44 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Wow, many congrats, this looks superb for the money! You mentioned the dial was from the Bay? Would you have a link to it at all?
modelizer Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Looks great J! I assume there is some nice'n'crisp CNC magic alá jmb on the caseback?
txrob779 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 You ARE the Tudor jedi, you know that,,,,i walk in the wake of your turbulance, Ty for putting up with me J..
jmb Posted March 8, 2012 Author Report Posted March 8, 2012 fleabay seller mahand1. He appears to be out but you could always message him as to future availability.
Ephry73 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 My only concern was the date window display. Looks great Justin. E
jmb Posted March 8, 2012 Author Report Posted March 8, 2012 E, that must have been a camera angle thing as this window is pretty much square...
superlative Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 I have a Clark 125 in mine and the mag thing is not square with the date window. I have a gen dial in my Josh/PC 5513 case with a Swiss 2824.
