Not sure if i shld...also saw a whiteletter 1665 for usd10,800 at mqwatches - is he reliable? Myfriend wants to get a milsub but they are a lot more expensive! Martyd3
In my opinion $5,200 for a gen 1680 without a bracelet is a bit high. The bracelet and ends would cost you another $750 or so. I would not buy off of eBay. Check on VRF (Vintage Rolex Forum). You should be able to find what you want there.
Nanuq
One thing I've realized over the years... if there's a watch you really want, and you instead buy the one that's "almost good enough," you'll save some money initially. But it will keep eating at you, you'll keep looking at "the one" that you really want. After 9-12 months you'll buy another that's better than the first, but still not "the one." After a couple of years, you'll finally buy "the one." By that time, the price will be higher than it was when you first started looking, and you will have already bought 2 that are "almost good enough" and the price of those 2 will add up to the one good one. Save your pennies and get "the one". It's cheaper that way.
FxrAndy
Look on VRF for these watches and you will fine a 1680 white, bracelet with box and papers not far from that price

Every post is moderated before listed, making it hard for reps to slip through. Still, do your homework.
DeeKa
VRF is safer than eBay or average Forum. Every post is moderated before listed, making it hard for reps to slip through. Still, do your homework. If you are new to VRF the posts get moderated, but once contributing and reaching member status they will be listed immediately. Nevertheless there are a lot of eyes looking at the offers and informing the mods as soon as something is not correct. Dee
