jmb Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 When the Tudor Black Bay came out it wasn't necessarily love at first sight but I thought it was a striking watch so I decided I might try to at least capture the essence of the beast. I ordered a cheapo red bezel insert off fleabay, dug a "modern" sub case out of the junk box, and started modifying my 7928 artwork. Today the gold ribbons for my printer and the insert got here so I figured I'd better get started. It may be several weeks before it's finished but it WILL get done. Step one was to put the case to the grinder: Although the gen is suipposed to have a domed sapphire none of the aftermarket ones lookes right from the profile view but a T21 looked really close so that will go in with the regular Sub bezel and red insert: I sacrificed one of my Maxi 14060 dials to make a blank (and for the markers): I then printed out some decals and sprayed a light coat of satin sealer on 'em: The decal was then applied to the blank: After it dries really good I'll spray on another coat of clear and glue the markers back on. This is probably about all I'll get accomplished on it this weekend. I will eventually try to machine a fine coin-edged bezel and attempt a crown.
Guest zeleni kukuruz Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Wooow, this will be nice to follow!!! Great job so long Mr J i like where this is going!
DeeKa Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Wooohooo! Faster than the gen factory Looks extremely promising. I think the most complex part will be to crown and tube... Dee
jmb Posted March 17, 2012 Author Report Posted March 17, 2012 Yeah, the crown may very well be wishful thinking on my part...
DeeKa Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 (edited) Not whishful thinking, but a little more artwork Dee Edited March 17, 2012 by DeeKa
AsiadeCuba Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 oh boy! this going to be good j what kind of case profile are you using?
jmb Posted March 17, 2012 Author Report Posted March 17, 2012 The artwork is done just a matter of executing it on a sterile crown... Cuba - I'm not sure I understand your question. Just a cheapo Sub case and I ground off the CGs...
woof* Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Congrats! You've been busy J, this ones going to be interesting. I didn't care too much for this watch at first, but I really like it now. In fact I was wondering how long before the rep factories would rep it. Any idea on how your making a red tube? That's one of the coolest parts
DeeKa Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Any idea on how your making a red tube? That's one of the coolest parts I think something like enamel would be the best lasting but not easy to place on the tube leaving the parts for case & crown untouched... Dee
archierocks Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 wow i like this is going to be great to follow keep up the excellent work
redwatch Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Wow!! That is one of the best decals yet J!!
superlative Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 (edited) That's great, J! I look forward to the final unveiling. Edited March 18, 2012 by superlative
Jkay Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Your dial making experiments are really paying off! I can't wait to see what comes in the future.
jmb Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 Well, I may have messed up the dial by rushing things. I thought I'd be slick and speed up the drying process with a hair-dryer and after the dial was finished I started getting some blotches of blushing. Oh well... Maybe I'll just beat it up , vintagize the whole thing, and say it was retrieved from 2072 with an experimental time machine...
woof* Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 "The Black Bay Time Machine Issue" That's killer! Even vintaged it's cool! Throw some flake hands on it! (still can't wait to see how you engineer a red tube )
StormTooper4 Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 That is very impressive work, I cant begin to fathom how you achieved that
woof* Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I just noticed the bezel, how did you do that?
jmb Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 R, it's just an old paper-clip bezel I had laying around. I'll machine a "proper" one some day...
krpster Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Great work jmb. Even with the vintage aspect it looks awesome.
cjjoyce1 Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 This is really turning out cool! What about anodizing the tube? (BTW - I hate people like you guys who just throw together the coolest projects out of stuff you just have laying around - oh sure, I'll just whip one of these baby's up) lolz
modelizer Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Impressive stuff as always J! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
