Guest
Both out of the safe at the same time is a rare occurrence, I only had my shitty ipad camera. First time Ive seen them side by side in the 10-15 years my father has had them. If you want more pics search my profile. I love the platinum sooo much more but so does my younger brother. (hahaha emphasis on the younger part)

lhooq
You just devalued both watches by taking an iPad shot of them! Beautiful! May you and your father enjoy them for a long time.
Guest
LOL.....Yes Im very fortunate.....The only bad thing is that not many watches measure up to them so I never buy them.....with the exception of my beloved Daytona since Britney Spears had it on (efff her for ruining my watch a bit) I have taken pictures of the 5140, with a proper noob camera....even a porn shot with full back side nudity...in the archives.... (I did try to search your profile mate but couldnt find anything in the gallery stuff etc.... I also tried the web but I was inundated with allsorts) Well, let me put it this way. While in a shop picking up my gen JLC Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931, itself an iconic watch, I wandered over to the PP case where I saw the most beautiful watch I've ever seen and "only" $25K or so. The salesman, sensing another purchase, had followed me over. He confided that although his shop carried most of the high end watchmakers, if he had his choice of only one brand, it would be Patek Phillipe. I would agree. My good friend inherited two VCs, both in need of some work, probably just a good cleaning which he hasn't yet seen fit to do. I said "Bruce, VC has opened a boutique in New York. Take them up there or sell them to me.' So far no luck on either score.
Guest
With retail prices over $80,000 I agree with you guys. Way over priced and when on my wrist (special sundays on a leap year) I don't really feel the joy of "wow its beautiful." Don't get me wrong, they are definitely a work of art, and engineering (I have no idea how they fit so many functions in a thinness less a 1/3 the size of a submariners), I dont see myself ever buying one. And you don;t wanna know what service and maintenance run. Rolex cert service x's 10, and they change and upgrade parts all the time. Postage cant be trusted with these watches so all services require two trips to Switzerland every five years. 1 to drop it off and 1 to pick it up 6 weeks later. ......my wife is going to kill me when I actually have to take care of it

PeteM
Oh!,, Ray... You show off ! When I grow up I want to be just like you Great pics there mate.... Thank you They are lovely watches for sure and I have no doubt about there value both monetarily and more importantly .. Sentimentally But if I wanted to find out more about these watches on the Internet .... What would these models be called? I am interested to understand the complications.... Do you or your dad wear them regularly or are they now just safe queens? How did your Dad acquire them or rather why... Looks? Investment ? The complication? The brand? Thanks again mate

Guest
But if I wanted to find out more about these watches on the Internet .... What would these models be called? 5140 and 5940 *unsure of the second one I am interested to understand the complications.... They are complicated "-D I believe the 5140 has 7 functions..... and it does Leap year which is unfathomable....not all this is awesome until you realize the thinness of the case. Once you see this, the intricacy of the watch's caliber is mind boggling. Do you or your dad wear them regularly or are they now just safe queens? He wears them daily....Mostly the Platinum because it low profile, and he's the dictionary's description of that. How did your Dad acquire them or rather why... Looks? Investment ? The complication? The brand? My dad initially bought the Yellow Gold one about 15 years ago when he started to be successful.....Everything was going smoothly in his business and he just built and sold a 20MW a coal powered electricity station. (the benefits of living in Latin America and having some friends) after that specific event which is completely separated from his core business, he bought a 996 911 and the Gold Patek while on vacation....He then went through a low profile life change when his company started really growing and thought people were out to kidnap him....So he bought a Swatch, which he wore daily for about 8-10 years. Things got better safety wise and his tastes changed to white gold-platinum....more classy if you ask me... which is when he decides to buy the 5140. which he rationalized because of that Patek commercial mentioning that "you don't ever own a patek , you;re just safely holding it for the next generation." (brilliant marketing) I have a brother so he needed two.... my father is very generous and tries his best to give equally....My sister for her 30th got a Patek P. Twenty 4 in RG (which she doesnt like because it RG ;-), something about skin tone....
PeteM
Skin tone.... sounds like my Mrs.... every choice of watch is wardrobe led !! Thanks mate I really appreciate you taking the time... I will now go and find out more 7 complications!! Shish Kebab !! Heres a link I found quickly http://patekwatch.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/how-i-became-fascinated-with-patek.html
