mastergod Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) Hi all, here are some US Marine (off the bay) iphone shots and first impressions. First of all, the bezel is non-click and I mean really non-click, as if it's broken. I am able to lift it 1-2 mililimeters with my fingernails (it is held down by the (in lack of a proper term) weird lug thingies. Apart from that, it seems pretty good. The caseback used to have Tudor 7200 engraved. Also, a watchsmith has written GE04/07 and perhaps14217XXX next to it (by hand, over 7200), and 10/06 under 7200. Somehow, the caseback seems very substantial. Bracelet - I don't know. Definitely incorrect for this watch, but uncertain wether or not its gen, probably not (?) Will take more pics later:-) mg Edited July 1, 2013 by mastergod
docthor Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 I don't know why but looking at this...öhmmm...thing ...makes me smile I'd love to see it when it's finished...for some reasons I cannot call it "watch"
mastergod Posted July 1, 2013 Author Report Posted July 1, 2013 Realizing that it is the "Tudor 7206" variety of this fantasy watch. mg
mastergod Posted July 1, 2013 Author Report Posted July 1, 2013 Is it a watch or a fish tank? lol I only got the case set, will have to source the rest...
mastergod Posted July 1, 2013 Author Report Posted July 1, 2013 I guess maybe they only turn up now and then. Allegedly from an estate sale, mg
freddy333 Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 Interesting watch, but it must have been an Asian estate sale.
SSTEEL Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 Is it a watch or a fish tank? Looks like the very rare micro-organisms tank Cool pick up mate, what's your plans for it?
cc33 Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 If you need the movement dial and hands, phong has em.. I emailed him once about a 7206 band and he replyed with pics if that watch lol! 1
mastergod Posted July 1, 2013 Author Report Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) Whether or not to be true to the original design of a fantasy watch is an interesting dilemma in which a large array of considerations and motivations come into play... My first plan is to sing my own tune by deciding a US Marine Rolex turned into a Rolex Commando. Then, having collected the right parts, probably go "gen Tudor fantasy" But you know what they say about ugly ducklings. Some become swans, other just remain ugly. With watches, IMHO this translates to the feeling you get when you put it on or take it off, whether it "connects". So if after that it still gets no wrist time, it will be traded off and loved by an RWG or HF fellow enthusiast :-) mg Edited July 1, 2013 by mastergod
Geof3 Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 That is a tank, for sure. Kinda like the Tudor Ranger on steroids! In terms of the band, it's a fantasy watch so there is no such thing as the "correct" bracelet. The one that is on it looks fine. A black bezel would be cool too. Is there an insert in that or is the bezel one piece? Looks like one piece.

dakwan Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 A fantasy watch custom made for a Japanese Collector by a Hong Kong Watch Maker from Swiss parts assumably for US Marine Corps . Phew..... more details from http://corvuswatch.blogspot.com/2011/09/greatest-rolex-that-never-was.html
Aero_Dave Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I like this watch, very cool. I like anything that's different. Where can I get one of these case sets to build my own? Dave...
raywj Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Out of my time in the Marine Corps, I never saw anyone wearing this watch lol!Sent from outside your window......Hi! 1
Geof3 Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Read the article... The best line EVER, "a fake of an homage to a fake". CLASSIC!
cc33 Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Great line! Also I have a feeling that the well-regarded Hong Kong-based watch restorer he's referring to is prob Michael Young
StormTooper4 Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Great watch cant wait to see how you finish it off
mastergod Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 (edited) Mock-up of a fantasy version of an original fake Better make that Oyster Perpetual, not Oyster Anyway - opinions? mg big brother of Edited July 3, 2013 by mastergod
Geof3 Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 Naw, needs the sport hands. Either the classic Mercedes or the 5514 arrows or the fat tudor arrow hands. The DJ stick hands just don't quite make it. I like the idea of an explorer-esq dial. But then that is my favorite Rolex dial overall. 1

Geof3 Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 That would be much better... Still think a black bezel, if poss, would bring it home. Try a mock up with the 5514 sword hands... Might be even better...
