cc33 Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I picked up an mk1 super fat font insert and it really makes the watch pop, I'm so glad I ended up keeping it. I think this is the one they call kissing 40 and as a bonus the pearl is a near perfect match!
freddy333 Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Nice, but what you really need is the faded red triangle with white outlines
cc33 Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 That's true, I haven't seen one yet and when I do I have a feeling I'm going to need to take out a second mortgage to buy it! This was the one right after the red ones so it's not too far off at least
Nanuq Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 So close, and yet so far! Maybe I can use some whiteout to paint white outlines on mine?
cc33 Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Not whiteout! Something more subtle maybe
phillycheez Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) Stunning and a huge congrats! These inserts are ridiculously expensive and hard to come by in this condition. You must have paid a pretty penny... No cracks or chips and a beautiful pearl to boot! So jealous. When it comes to vintage, fat font inserts really make it or break it for me. pam007 Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Wow. Very rare.. That kissing 4. Bet you paid a lot for it.
cc33 Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 Thanks guys, yes it was ridiculously expensive but it is super rare and has such a perfect natural fade, I fell in love. Money doesn't seem to mean as much when that happens!
ceocorona Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Stunning watch! If you don't mind me asking. Where did you source that gem of an insert?
cc33 Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 Thanks ceo, it was for sale on vrm a few days ago, wasn't expecting him to fedex it overnight to me so that was a nice surprise
danielv2000 Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 That watch gets better looking everyday! Congrats
dropbear2008 Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Nice. Ridiculously expensive for an old alloy ring, yes. But oh so nice.
whoopy12 Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 CC: STUNNING! It's amazing how different one component can make the watch look. grey out! Made me
danielv2000 Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 I just saw another one go for sale. Slightly cheaper!
cc33 Posted July 26, 2013 Author Report Posted July 26, 2013 Same seller but not the same insert at all, I like mine a lot more it has more character
cc33 Posted August 12, 2013 Author Report Posted August 12, 2013 I was doing some reading and it looks like I lucked out, my insert which I thought was an mk1 because that's what the seller listed it as, is actually pre mk inserts. Whoever decided to name them mk1-2-3 left this one out. This guy calls it mk0.5 http://rolex.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-732/pi-5769208/ti-849983/ I think it's even earlier and rarer than the mk1 that I thought it was, maybe the first insert made for a very limited time right after the red triangle ones. I don't think I'm going to use it knowing just how valuable it might be.. Kind of a shame but I don't want to risk damaging it! Top is mine, middle is known mk1 and bottom is the "mk0.5" from the link I posted which compares to mine the best imo
Nanuq Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 Hey cc, my unsolicited advice?Leave it installed and use it / enjoy it. That's what it's for. It will get even better with use.I mounted gen vintage Superdome T39s on two of my daily wearers. I paid $350 each, four or five years ago. Yeah they get scratched, but I get to see them every day. It's worth it.
phillycheez Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 (edited) When I've seen your insert before they called it super fat font insert. I'd wear the crap out of that too. Damn... Been waiting for somebody to replicate the fat font inserts (accurately) since I've been into vintage. Edited August 12, 2013 by phillycheez
