irolexu Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 I am considering mailing out my TC to phong and have him dress up the lugs with the correct reference number and correct matching LV serial number but I have yet to see any of his work in person. Does anyone have any pics they can post and or experience with his work? I want it to look like an authentic serial number and not a cheap laser etched number commonly found on the OTB reps. My Sean case had a very nice gen like engraving and I miss that part of my Sean case. Let me know guys!
live1 Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 why don't you just use the sean case bro its better anyway, also heard phong charges crazy money for his engravings and i haven't seen it either
fabioliveri Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 350 € for engraving it's a bit too much! I guess that Phong smokes grass or drinks vodka al day long, his prices are really really really high, quality is good but not outstanding for in general.
freddy333 Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 Phong's engravings are variable. Sometimes, they are nearly perfect, other times, they are laughable (& I am being kind). I am not even sure he does them himself? Unfortunately, I do not know of a 100% reliable engraver to suggest as an alternative.
Jkay Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 What about Marlin? Doesn't he have both a Pantograph and a laser engraving machine in his watchmaking shop.
irolexu Posted May 10, 2014 Author Report Posted May 10, 2014 I no longer have a Sean case and phong is making me a good deal on the engraving but if you guys are saying it's hit and miss that scares me cause I don't want to have to deal with having to have it redone if he messes it up
cc33 Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 I truly believe that when he engraves it himself it's perfect, he has a pantograph in his place. He does his best to get blank cases for his customers but I think what happens is that every once in a while he gets pre engraved cases, that must be what freddy is referring to because again when he does the engravings they are perfect
irolexu Posted May 12, 2014 Author Report Posted May 12, 2014 Ok thanks. In that case I will request he do the engraving himself.
jmb Posted May 12, 2014 Report Posted May 12, 2014 I am mulling over trying to make a fixture to hold a case vertically on my engraver. I could possibly engrave a number, manually index it for the next number, etc. I don't know if this would work or not but a proper CNC controlled rotating axis/fixture costs a bit more than I can spend right now...
automatico Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 A friend can make near perfecto numbers and letters with his old Hermes pantograph engraver but he is ornery as a Billygoat and won't do it. He did a couple DW cases for me before he took the studs and he said the case metal was 'soft as butter' so it was not wearing his cutter tip out or anything. I even tried to $$bribe him and he said "Not No! but Hell No!!" ...so I tried to buy his engraver. I offered CA$H Money! (most traders would want it on credit) He said "Get the #%&k out of here!!" (it's not the first time, we been friends for years) Guess I'll just have to shoot him. ...and deal with his wife. Or maybe have him committed to a looney bin because I have proof he's Crazy. He just bought 90 Accutrons! Ninety! Nine Zero!! Maybe I made him mad when I said they were not worth the batts it would take to get them running. That's when he went for his gun. It's all true except the gun part. Hee Haw!
panerai153 Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 It's really too bad that someone doesn't offer reasonably priced engraving. I have a couple of sterile cases that I would love to get engraved, it would be the icing on the cake for me The one that I would still love to do is the "meatball" Pan Am logo on my 6542 case back. Then it would be complete!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Guest Daytona1984 Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 would also love to get one of my cases engraved...
irolexu Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 He does offer a good discount to people with sterile cases
watchme22 Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) I have a CNC machine and maybe with the proper guidance I can figure out a holder and a way to do it. JMB, maybe we can work together? May be a good thing for the community... Edited May 14, 2014 by watchme22
irolexu Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 You definitely need some practice cases! I have a few I can spare for this
watchme22 Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I need some good resolution pictures of the serial numbers as well as fonts and anything else that may help.
irolexu Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 What you need is a gen example. I say invest in a old DJ case that has good lugs. You can usually have one for 200-400 bucks
1680 Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Keep in mind that the fonts have changed a few times, even some models have their "own" fonts / spacing.
