Sorry to hear that you were broken into; the loss of the watch given by your father is terrible. At least no one was hurt in the process.

I'd actually suggest that you go the other way with it. It's a good idea to have a safe that's easy to find, and preferably easy to open. Put a few hundred dollars in there ($20 bills), some fake personal documents, and a few of your worst rolex reps. Put it right on the nightstand with the key still in it. When they open it up, they'll think they hit the motherlode and move on. The valuable stuff like your gens, and the watch your father gave you, etc should be stored much more securely.

Or you could use the strategy that I use: be too poor to be worth robbing!

Simon, the only secure way is a safe that is bolted to the floor( big lag bolts into the floor supports) one big enough or keep your watches, your wife's jewelry and important papers. Other than that, a secret room that doesn't look like a room, with a steel door, frame and a couple of stout dead bolt locks. Nothing will defeat a professional thief, fortunately in most cases unless they are sure you have a fortune in jewelry, watches, etc, most break ins are by amateurs that grab and run. They are just looking for something to convert to drugs. A good alarm system is not a bad idea either. Alarms are sometimes a PITA, because you have to remember to arm it when you leave and disarm it as soon as you get inside.

Very sorry about your watch, it always seems like the bastards take the things that mean the most!

Really sorry to hear about your situation. Thieves really bother me.

I bought a safe big enough to fit my winders in it and drilled a hole in the back so I can run the power cords in. It's bolted to the floor and hidden in the house. The problem is it is kind of a hassle to move everything in there, so usually only put them in there when traveling. The whole idea of having nice display winders is to have them on display....We have an alarm and a special underwriters insurance policy for jewelry and a couple other hard to replace items. At the end of the day I might get my money back but those sentimental items are irreplaceable. I collect golf clubs as well as watches and it would be really hard to replace some of them.

Good luck

Sorry Ezio :(

I'm also thinking to buy a proper 1m tall, floor bolted safe: it would be good for my watches as like as precious docs like the house purchase ones.

I've seen that the cost is around 1000€, so not crazy. If you have space in your house it can be a good solution.

I'm very sorry to hear this mate. A couple of years back they broke into my house, I know the feeling.

When I'm away for a while or on holiday. I take my watches to a friend of mine or to family.

Good luck buddy

Hey guys thank you for the Nice words as Said earlier i Got a safe it was fitted in the Wall when i build it back in the day 80s casino style almost its hidden behind a mirror ;) the alarm we Got to but in Denmark its ilegal to have a alarm that make noise so only Got a silent alarm and the Security guard was there in 5 minutes time so They were Quick those [censored] the idea of a fake safe with some [censored] in it to draw away attention is really a good idea

No idea why my watch wasnt in the safe but sometimes i forget to do it you guys know it to you feel safe in your house thats the point hehe

My wife have had time to look a little deeper whats missing They even toke some of my wifes lingerie those perverts

But as long as everybody is safe its not a biggie accept for the watch the insurance cant cover the value for that

I had a bike stolen last year so I added some interesting security measures. The first is a contraption that is spring loaded and accepts blank shotgun cartridges. The second I made a small bracket that's the right size to hold a large smoke grenade. Both work from a trip wire going to the door.

I should put a live video feed in there, front and back, and accidentally leave to lock unlocked (and nothing of value in there) just so I can see the reactions :)

Well its a long story but i make it short it because we have deciced in Denmark not to bother other residents around you if it goes off all day or something you dont bother Them its written in our what can we call it house peace laws so only silents alarm to Security firms its a stupid law since Banks and stores are allowed but not private
