marrickvilleboy Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 (edited) Ok guys, I have just completed this model. I just serviced the movement as well and its running strong. The bezel numbers and appropriate numbers have been lumed - I'm going to purchase some Superlum and do it right, I will update again when i've done that. Ok so what is it made of/from? Replica case and dial Replica hands and crown Genuine 552 movement The seconds hand was made by myself - it was a combination of different hands to get the right shape and length - i think its pretty close. The '9' and '6' were altered to make it look more original, the rep dial had the 9 and 6 closed up, it should be opened. I will be adding a gasket some time next week. Anyway, enough talking - lets get to the pictures. Please let me know what you guys think, especially Ubi - who has the genuine version of this. Thanks for viewing! and one more shot with my current model Omega GMT white dial. I couldn't get a hold of the night shot so sorry R1cco, I will try again when i have a better camera....or maybe its just my poor abilities... =( anyway, leave comments please, thanks! docblackrock Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Nice the PO's grandaddy Me, I'm after a gold version - hey, I need a decent crystal press
gioarmani Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Very nice. Can't wait to see it's completion.
ubiquitous Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Mmmmm... Vintage ...with just a bit of wabi.
marrickvilleboy Posted January 17, 2007 Author Report Posted January 17, 2007 yep, its a no-date seamaster. I am still waiting for 2 more parts. All the parts are of course rep parts - the so called "vietnamese cobbler" I hope to update you guys soon...but busy again due to uni work. =( maybe sometimes next week, i hope, or week after. =)
ubiquitous Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Nice, Ubi. Thanks, gio... Ruo- Looking forward to seeing yours finished! I love these vintage SM300's... One of my favorites for vintage divers...
marrickvilleboy Posted January 22, 2007 Author Report Posted January 22, 2007 Ok, I'm just waiting on the movement which will come this week. I got the bezel to lume up, so i'm pretty happy. Pictures by the end of the week, i promise. This project wasn't cheap - I may be able to make one more if anyone is interested.
r11co Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 I got the bezel to lume up, so i'm pretty happy. Now I'm excited :D
longshot Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 one of my favorite dive watches of all time! thanks for sharing it
sishac Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Great job!! What a beautiful watch...I'd love to hear more about it, your plans for another one, and more pictures!! Tom
PAMman Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Looks really great. I have a genuine (Watchco) date version and can confirm that these are really nice timepieces. If you are opening yours again, can I suggest that you use a small spec of mat black to remove each of the white minute markers to the outside of the 5 minute lume markers. These are an obvious giveaway on the fakes and are referred to as 'Stubbies' by the enthusiasts. Wear it well.
r11co Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 I'm liking what I'm seeing. I'm liking even more that this is a 'rep' with a history of its own. So much cooler than a vintage Sub.
Jetsons Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Terrific vintage and work putting this old guy together. I bet you had a lot of fun hunting all the parts down. I'm also partial to the no-date. The dial looks much cleaner and symmetrical. Great post!
ubiquitous Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Nicely done, Ruo. I agree with PAMman, however... Eliminate the stubbies, and if you can, snag a gen caseback (watchco/watchadoo) to eliminate the pointy A's... Regardless// That's a very cool franken that you put together! With a gen 552 inside, it's sure to bring many years of enjoyment
r11co Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 if you can, snag a gen caseback (watchco/watchadoo) to eliminate the pointy A's... I wasn't going to mention that
ubiquitous Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 There's no doubt; Ruo put together a great watch! I only mentioned the back as a way to further improve on a great piece...
r11co Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Always the perfectionist, Ubi! We wouldn't have you any other way.
By-Tor Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 That's very cool vintage. What's the diameter of this watch? Around 39mm I recall...

A gen caseback would be a great addition, but I don't think that it will fit the rep case. AFAIK the pitch of the threads is different on the reps parts. However, the caseback should be available from Watchco if you want to try it.
