Rolex Deep Sea: what's inside that animal? Eta or Clone? According to the watchmaker, genuine ETA

Hi Everyone,

I had a funny experience with my local watchmaker here in Malta  ;)

Two of my watches, both with allegedly genuine ETA 2836-2 had issues.

Apparently, he fixed them both.

He congratulated me: "very good movements, not Chinese my friend!"

So, I had some doubts on the guy in the end because from what I remember, the Deep Sea may not be a genuine ETA but a Clone.

What do you think ?

Genuine Eta 2836-2 or a clone?

Cheers

Stephane

Unlike Rolex, ETA does not train watchmakers in the intricacies involved in spotting modern ETA clones. I have seen long-time watchmakers with more than 25 years of experience be fooled by Rolex movement clones, which are obvious knock-offs to any of the senior members here.

Never assume professional = well-informed.

10000%

At our local Rolex Dealer they don't know their behind from their elbows on anything but the absolute newest watches, and only people that have been there multiple years could spot only a crude fake. That said, you can bring in *any* decent franken build and they'll "ooh and ahh" all over it.

If I wanted to be a real SOB I could take the 5513 in there once it's complete and trade it for a new Daytona. I swear to god they'd probably do it. I'll tell them I bought it from Robert Maron hahaha

An update after 48 hours wearing both (not on the same arm though!)

The clone (Crone) is keeping cosc time. In fact it runs precisely, not even a second difference.

The genuine ETA lost 10 seconds...

Go figure ?!

The Miyota in my FauxMega 300 Master keeps time as well as any ETA I own.

I checked my genuine ones and I can tell you guys it's quite easy to spot, and still confusing.
That said, the pics of the movement on top of this threat are 100% from a clone.

The gen Eta has very smooth wheels and,...which is a surprise once again, although not new information, the logo is poisoned on the movement like it's bitten by the plates.

My reference is my Tissot PRS which is a genuine 2836-2 of course.

Pics of a genuine one installed by Andy in my Noob Explorer.
