First Gen Spec BP GMT Master 16710

Hello Gang,
after a lot research and knowing there is no good 5 digit GMT 16710, I started a new Project.
The BP Explorer had a good Midcase, also the BP 1675 is a good Base for it.
But we need also a gen Spec Bezel System for GMT.
So I took a Explorer Midcase, reworked the CG's a bit to look like Gen.
The Case takes a gen Crystal with no problem too
 
I ordered a gen Spec Bezel System ( Retainer, Washer, Klickwire and Bezel)
 
So this is how it works

Dial, Hands and movement is a cheap BP 3804 for the moment.

The BP Explorer Case is good enough for it and you got the whole watch for the money.

That looks great, and I really love the experimentation and execution. I did this exactly about a year or two ago, but I didn't complete it, as the case was too thick for me with the gen spec bezel assembly. The BP 16710 disguises it's thickness by using a thinner than genuine bezel on a thicker than genuine case. The BP 16570 case is the same thickness as the BP 16710 case, but the thicker gen spec bezel assembly seemed like I was doubling up the thicknesses by combining a thicker bezel on a case that was too thick.

 

-Do you mind sharing the overall thickness of your completed piece?

-Is there a known source for a thinner case back?

-Are there any workarounds for thinning cases without a lathe or milling machine?
-You mentioned a BP 1675 case could work as a base too. Isn't the rehaut too small for the dial opening and gen spec bezel assembly?
 

I'd like to revisit my own (identical) build after seeing yours. It looks great! I just want a way to thin the BP 16570 case somehow.

Yes the Case is a bit thicker. It's only possible to get it thinner with a lathe.

I will measure my build.

Wow! Those machining pictures just make your build even better. I'm extremely impressed, and maybe even more jealous. 
Now I fully understand your mention of reworking the crown guards. Excellent job, by the way. This type of work is when it switches from a replica to a piece of art.

For 1675 I meant it fit the gen Plexy without work, not as a base for a 5 digit GMT

Fine looking '16710'!

 

I bought a few '16710' watches about 10 years ago with DG 3804 movements and they are 13.1mm thick.  They have sapphire crystals and the bezels rotate in both directions with clicks.  The movements are secured in the case with a brass spacer and case clamps/screws.  The lugs are 'blind' (no holes), the SEL bracelets have hollow mid links and are well made.

No idea what 'factory' made them as they came from 'a guy' in NYC back then.  He also had '16610' and '16570' models with similar features.

That is all I know about them because I never took one apart or modified one.

 

A few years before that, I got some similar GMT watches with new Swiss ETA movements/China 24H kits.  They were ordered from HK and arrived from a used car lot in GA  USA. 

Figure that one out.

I also used an  Explorer case for my 16710. Clark's bezel, crystal and click spring are very smooth and gen feel. I used a genuine insert and crown, ETA movement.
