So - I've got my crystal cranium hat on today and i wanted to pose the question

is it possible to have the Perfect Collection?

I thought i had it recently, i thought had all occassions, all colors all weights, important complications (gmt)

I thought i had a set of reps that - i just wouldn't sell.

but - i've stripped down my collection again to raise $$ for some new models coming out- see graphite BCE

I now have at least 2 projects i want to do - Franken Breit Crosswind

and Custom Black Monster by Flav

I have decided i want to go to some places that i never thought i would - gold, 2T, maybe even some bling

The worst offender are of course the dealers - or should we say the factories - damn new things - damn making all of us who spent 4 billion dollars on mods - then you come out with fixed watches . Rrrrrr

and - then there are those "discounts and sales" that pop up the day after you pay for a watch :(

but anyway -

i used to be a stickler for accuracy - but, i am all about self satisfaction - and about watches tha tmake me happy. For instance, i know they don't make it, but those Blue Chrono 45mm PO's i think are pretty cool looking, i mgiht want one -

I will say this - i never wanted an omega - then i just wanted the orange PO 45mm - i accidently got black - its now my favorite watch.

its just different when they are on - its also different when there is a signifigant leap in quality - AR, dial material, crowns, yadda yadda

this is obviously an objective - but also philisophical question

can there be a perfect collection? or are we to sick - or should we just drink !!! :)

My taste changes constantly and I am getting tired of watches that I had for a while and than of course there is all the new nice watches coming out from our dealers....At any given point in time I always felt that I am missing at least one watch for a certain occasion.

I thought getting a couple of gens will get me to having the perfect collection, but than I realized that that wasn't the answer either...I am such a junkie...I want more and more and more.

I think it is human nature to go after what your passionate about and just never quite get to the end goal of really being 100% satisfied. A great example was my genuine Panerai purchase, after I had it I immediately looked into other models and vintage pieces.

man it is a course and over time an expensive one - but at the same time it is a lot of fun :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Ahh.. this I have tried so many times, to put together the perfect collection for me...

Even though it has eluded me to this point,... like a mirage that moves back as I approach..

I still think it's possible,.. the goal for me is to find pieces that have become, or will become Classics..

Seven in all,..One for every day, and occasion...

Problems are, new releases that seem so perfect when they first come out,.. then later

updates turn them into has beens... either that, or some sparkle I had hoped would hold my attention

turns dull to me after a while..

Last but not least,.. the problem of imperfect ones with QC slightly off,.. enough to

drive me crazy which once led me to try again.. but now leaves me waiting for upgrades or dealers

who build from scratch.. like Angus and now Jay....

It's naturally human to want what you cannot have. It is not possible to have a perfect collection because no matter how many examples you have and how far reaching the scope of your timepieces, there will always be that one little piece that you don't have.

Every time I get a new watch I think I'm going to finally perfect my collection. What happens? I open the package, place it in my watch box, enjoy it for about a week or two, and then dream of getting something else. It happens every time. No replica has contented me enough to make me feel satisfied enough to stop considering a fresh buy. Even now I have a list in my brain of about five watches I'd love to one.

Whose on top of the list? A non-existing two-tone Breitling Chrono Avenger rep. Guess what? My collection might never be complete. Even when I run out of money.

I think that there is a 'perfect collection'. Obviously it's for each individual...but for me, I would go:

Ultimate PO

Pam 111h

Rolex Sub

Tag Link Chrono

Hublot Big Bang

IWC Ingy in Ti

There are others that are worthy, but for me, this would represent an optimized collection. I have a tendency to like newer models because I believe that reps are improving as time goes on. I've omitted MBW watches because I don't feel they represent value if we're talking about collections. Although I don't doubt that for a lot of their owners, they represent their best piece.

COnsidering the fact ive been recently exposed to this world( wich is very addicting I might add) I'd have to say that I agree on the fact the newer reps do represent higher quality not just mehcanical but in detail when compared to it's gen counter-part.

I'd have to say for me at the moment I would be happy with:

Tag Link crono blue dial polished bezel

Navitimer Serie Special all white

PO 4th gen black dial

PO crono ulitmate orange bezel orange rubber strap :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Rolex YachtMaster

VC Overseas white dial

Not a bad list for a noob like myself

But rest assured, that list will change and it will grow with time. Heck each time i visit one of the dealers site's i fall in love with even more watches.

The perfect collection is not attainable in this hobby.

For the simple reason no replica is perfect.

You may think you have the perfect Rolex collection, or Panerai collection, or Breitling collection.

About the time you finally collect all the different models from a brand that you desire, along comes the new, improved model.

Perhaps only slightly improved, but better none the less.

Then the hunger sets in for just one more watch to upgrade.

If I just had this improved model the collection would then be perfect.

The search for the perfect collection will drive one mad.

.....buts it's sure fun trying.

haha, so far Im the only person who replied "possible." Given unlimited funds, I think I would hit a point of satiation where my collection would be "perfect."

Alright here is where your totally wrong

If we had unlimited funds - we would get everything up front.

- AND - you wouldn't have the "thrill of the hunt"

what makes a behavior the most addictive when it has a randomized positive reinforcment. -

thats why gambling is addictive - its not, winning or losing the amt of money its teh randomness that drags you in

I think its that way for the watches - we love the watches but even more we love to love teh watches - we love to look for them, try them on - look for new ones -

The biggest pleasure i have gotten out of any purchase has been one i got by accident.

what does that tell me?

in fact - it changed my whole concept of what i enjoy -

here is the best part about reps - its affordable to be this sick

Here is another interesting thin - i tend to sell alot of reps. And the cost of ownership isn't to bad. 20-30 or even 50 less than i paid - used for 6 months - thats not really that bad.

there is a capital investment to build the collection - but, since i made that i have bought and sold alot and haven't spent as much as you might think. - except for straps :)

i even walked away for almost 9 months (coincidently how long it takes to pop out a kid :)its all krazy

I dont know if it's possible to get "perfect" collection but I'm very satisfied with every single rep I own. Difficult to believe there will ever be better versions of the following reps:

Omega PO 45mm

Seamaster Chrono

TAG Link Chrono

"Bond" Seamaster

These four are my "holy grail" reps... and will never part with them. I also think the new Breitlings (Chronomat and SuperOcean) are as good as they ever get.

I don't think I'll buy lots of watches anymore (wishful thinking maybe). I think it's possible so I voted "yes". But there will always be 2-3 more watches you'd like to own...

Im working towards my perfect collection;

PAM 005

SMP Chrono

Breitling TT Navitimer (12,9,6)

BCE

4th Gen PO

To buy;

Ultimate PO

PO Casino Royal Ed. (when its released)

IWC Aquatimer Costeau (again when its released)

Submariner (not sure which version yet)

Chopard Gran Turismo (When its released)

After this I would like to say I won't buy anymore, but this would be my ideal collection.

Im not wrong, thats your addiction not mine. I get zero thrill from the hunt. I simply want a watch without paying thousands.
