Is Your PO Waterproof?

I'm going to the beach next week and I want to bring my PO rep and use it for what we all want in a dive watch. To get it wet and not worry about water getting inside. I haven't been able to get the watch professionally tested so I thought that if we do a poll answering the following questions, maybe we can all have a reference of odds that they're waterproof or not.

So if all the PO owners can answer the following questions, we'll have a nice data set of positive/negative probability of waterproofness for the PO reps that are available to us.

So I'll start.

Model: 4th Generation/ETA

Size: 42mm

Seller: Andrew

Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist

Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist

Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: not yet

Here's my PO which matches my beloved upright bass very well. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Model: Chrono Quartz

Size: 42mm

Seller: Andrew

Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist

Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist

Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: Yes

The back only tightened up with thumb force.

I wear this at sea, and it's been dunked a lot!

Takes bangs and slams like a prize fighter.

Guess that's an advantage with the quartz.

size: 45mm

seller: josh

waterproof test: swimming pool in cabo, no problems whatsoever

other: i tightened the caseback (yellow kitchen rubber glove method) before i left for the trip; it was a good thing i checked, because i was able to tighten the caseback significantly by doing so.

Guessing my PO addiction is about to come to the forefront:

Model: 4th Generation/ETA

Size: 42mm

Seller: Josh

Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist at all

Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist at all

Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: With ease... no leaks to 32ft skindiving.. no silicon... just finger tight on the crowns and Jaxa wrench on the caseback.

Model: UPO/ETA (early run)

Size: 45.5mm

Seller: Josh

Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist at all

Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist at all

Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: 110 feet scuba diving off Puerto Rico in April... can't complain. Silicon on the caseback, both crowns finger tight.

Model: UPO lite

Size: 45.5mm

Seller: Josh

Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist at all

Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist at all

Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: no leaks at all... did put silicon on the caseback o-rings and retighten the caseback... both crowns finger tight.

All in all... all of my newer diver/sports watches are nicely watertight... I'm a bit afraid to try a chrono in a humid envoirnment though.

Model: PO Casino Royale 007/ETA

Size: 45mm

Seller: Silix

Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist

Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist

Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: Yes, no leaks or mist

Jay supposedly took extra measures (and definitely extra $) to waterproof this model of the watch. I've been using this and my SFSO from PT as the summer, beach, pool, shower watches. Absolutely no problems so far. Oh, I should mention that I did (and had to) tighten the caseback when I received the watch (never trust anything but your own QC...)

In also own a 7750 PO Chrono (see my signatue) but that watch has seen no water except a bit of my sweat.....

Maybe its just me, I can understand why people would want to wear a watch while swimming/diving but in the shower?? :whistling:

Yep... this is clearly a matter of personal taste... some people take their watch off for sleeping, some for sex, some never. For me a watch is similar to my wedding ring... I wear it, wear it ... and forget that I wear it. So it it comes in handy if the watch is waterproof... because as a halfway civilized man, you do shower every once in a while... :whistling:

PS: the only place where I never wear a watch is in the sauna... because that's hardcore QC even for quality gens...

Two observations on this.

1. Men/boys have an innate desire to drive their tools hard, be it a watch, motorbike, or toys as a child (my son is really hard on his toys). We like to test things to their limits, hence the term "beater watch"; and

2. it makes us feel like a bad-ass somehow :yu:

Model: 4th Swiss ETA

Size: 42mm

Seller: Paul

Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist

Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist

Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: not yet

will try to dive with it soon I quess, previous owner claimed he put silicone at casebacks gasket and changed the crown, I might consider them to be watherproof 3meters easily. Will check it when Ill be at some wather resort.

Yes, tested to 5atm with pressure tester.

But, I added a gen crown and tube, replaced a missing seal in the HE valve, and lubed all gaskets.

(Also added gen dial, hands and pearl)

Bought originally from Paul. "5th gen" 42mm

Where did you get the gen dial and how much if i might ask?

I think you've been lucky enough if you had no water inside while taking a shower ... Think at you friends laughing when the'll see your PO with the ... mediterranean inside

My friends know this PO is a rep, and yes we would have a laugh if it died on me..Strawberry daquiries under the sun help your outlook of life. Instead they asked me to get them a copy too.. And it has nothing to do with luck. Silicone, then water proof test to local watchsmith just as a precaution for what I knew: this is a simple design (no pushers or sandwitch case) so, gaskets working and lubed, should not be that hard to make it waterproof.. It has to do with the design and execution of the PO.

BTW: I had a 111 die on me during a dive.. after USER error... It had survived lots of them, up to the day that I forgot to close the CG after winding it.. Multiple LV's, and 183 have gone deep in the mediterranean without any problem :) Wish you have the same luck as I have had with the rest of my watches :) I trust you were not trying to diss me, so, welcome :)

Model: Planet Ocean (Asian mvmnt) Possibly 4th gen

Size: 45mm

Seller: 'Other'

Rain: Has not been a problem

Shower: Untested as yet...

Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: Untested as yet.

I was told by my dealer that the watch would likely be shower proof, but probably wouldn't stand up to bathing or swimming. As a result, once I get my 2531.80 SMP back, I will be taking the Planet Ocean in for waterproofing and regulation. By coincidence, I accidentally forgot to take the watch off when getting in a hot bath earlier (think Japanese Hot Spring standard), pulled my arm out and immediately removed the watch. No hint of fogging or condensation, so I either a) caught it in time, or b ) it has been better waterproofed than the dealer originally thought. Only time will tell once my watchsmith gets his hands on it...
