Jumbie
I don't get it. I have never seen anyone type like this before. I think it's fine for that to be an individual's unique/particular style but it is hardly the "norm" yet I see it fairly often on this forum and RWI where TTK posts. Therefore, I can only conclude that people are simply copying him which is well...strange to me. I don't know. I feel it's the same as if an individual were to go to work and show up in the exact same pair of pants, shoes and sunglasses as the "cool guy" who also works there. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery they say but this just strikes me as extremely odd. Note: the one exception to this is when people are replying to TTK and obviously making a joke of it rather than it being their normal style of writing. Jumbie
Ellipses are a normal form of punctuation. Using them like commas, however, is not. I can also refer you to forums that I have been on for years where I use them quite frequently when I type. I do...not...write like....this though. Jumbie
Using them in ... um, written text designed to ... er, imitate speech is perfectly cromulent usage. I had to Google cromulent. 1. Used in an ironical sense to mean legitimate, and therefore, in reality, spurious and not at all legitimate. Assumes common knowledge of the inherent Simpsons reference. 2. Expression used to legitimize another expression of dubious existence. Used in the ironic sense in that it defends the questionable use of an illigitimate or slang word with another made-up expression. The intent of the phrase is generally used in conjunction with insults to high talkers, english majors and otherwise insufferable people who feel the need to correct others. Often accompanied by a punch to the stomach. Both from Urban Dictionary.

Jumbie
But why do you care how other people write, or cast aspersions to why they might write in a certain way? I'm certainly not losing any sleep over it. Like I said, I find the emulation strange. I guess when in Rome... Or something to that effect. Live and let live. This isn't a playground. I'm not stopping anyone nor do I expect them to stop. If everyone wants to write in Pig Latin, that's their business. I'd simply find it extremely odd. I don't get the playground comment. I guess you're making reference to my maturity level and reasons for bringing this up in the first place?
Jumbie
And WTF has ...... strings of.......full.......stops....got to do with geometry anyhoo? See Pugwash's post. Also, before any further questioning, to the best of my knowledge ellipses is the plural form of ellipsis which is why I spelled it as such in my second post. cornerstone
Asking "do you imitate so and so to look cool" is not something I'd ask around the office, put it that way. I like cromulent! Gonna hit the mother-in-law with that one!

Jumbie
Asking "do you imitate so and so to look cool" is not something I'd ask around the office, put it that way. Fair enough. However, it's been my observation in the short time I've been on this forum that TTK seems to have quite the following and much admiration. Not saying he doesn't deserve it (I reserve my judgement on that). However, I can honestly think of no other reason to imitate someone. I used my "cool guy at the office" as simply an example. No one would copy the office loser now would they? Sorry for more "playground" examples.
Jumbie
I should further clarify that I have no issue with the unique (well not so unique any more) nature of TTK's writing. Much like Klink's odd style, it's just his thing.

Jumbie
I must say that I haven't seen this used very much apart from when TTK posts! I don't see it a ton. In the grand scheme of things I'd say I've seen it from perhaps 4 or 5 other people between here and RWI. While I don't claim to have visited every forum or read every single individual's writing on the WWW (which would be ludicrous), I've never seen anyone use this particular style before joining the replica watch forums. I don't F around... I want to be TTK... He lives the high life... has lots of watches... hot babes on beaches... constantly on the run from the law... super secret agent...he is really a cia agent... OiRogers
Interesting thread.... I know that I type in a similar manner to TTK... Why?... no idea Not in imitation of Neils style... I've just always done it.... seems to fit with my flow of thought... if it bothers you, I appologize... but I don't intend to stop.
Jumbie
It doesn't bother me. I admit that it's not my preferred style of writing as I guess I am a bit of a conservative when it comes to things like this and detest seeing things like ur instead of your. But it's perfectly legible and I am fine with it. I'm sure you know there is no need to apologize for it. After all, who the hell am I? Do what makes you happy but again, I just personally find it strange that it appears so many people would choose (apparently not in your case) to imitate TTK for whatever reason. In the end, this thread has no real point. While it may have come off as such, it isn't really a criticism or some misguided appeal to stop. I have no illusions that people will do so on my behalf. I guess it was just me sharing my musings.
jfreeman420
I certainly appreciate all the free education I get here on RWG. My new word for the day......."cromulent". Can it be used to say "sure he wears a cromulent rolex"? Or is it more like "my wife's breasts aren't near the cromulent level of that woman's"? He know how to write English very well.......Hes got balls and he knows how to write in an entertaining and forceful manner.......so as to place his oponent off balance and his style is unmistakable. TTK is a (destructive?) genius....but deeply sensitive too as rya well knows Example from old RWG: Gran.....a joke....should be in the Humour section...! Dec 16 2005, 04:01 PM by TTK Well........seems you've lost your marbles ...not your patience....huh Gran.....a glaring example of your stupidity and inability to act as a moderator......I'll lay you 10-1.......you don't even know what the farging word means.....! BTW.....I know Narikaa personally......and I can tell you this....he could buy you...sell you..... and forget you.....travelled all over the Far East.......Phillipines....China....Japan....whilst your sorry ass is parked in the hinterland somewhere praying for a blizzard free day........6'4'....tall...ex-military and a helicopter pilot to boot.......meaner than a junkyard dog.....I'm glad for your sake...this is a virtual arena......and sorry for his sake....because he's in the queue behind me to express how kind a face you have.....the kind you'd never get tired kicking......!
