If anyone doesn't know what a reborn doll is, it's a quality brand doll, which is then modified to be more "real" Yes friends, there are people who do this, (my wife included). They put in new eyes, hair, strip the skin back and recolour... etc etc... there are forums out there, and they have their own "expert modders" who demand BIG $$. And the reborn dolls bring even bigger $$ So what's the point here? My wife is a "reborner" About 2 years back, I was telling her about our PAW ( Pass around watch) which was to travel the world (sadly it keeps getting waylaid in its travels) So the reborners decided to get a doll, and send it around the world, getting each of their "experts" to do a number on it ( each has a specialty... hair... eyes... skin etc.) Beleive me this was a plan evolved with military precision... to XXXX cos she's better on skin... need that done 1st etc etc. So this little doll was given it's own passport and diary, and sent off from here in Oz to the modders of the reborn world. A bit like our PAW, it has, "gone missing" for months at a time, but in its final state has recently emerged. (These ladies do good things on their forums, like hosting a child through forum donations to World Vision) So, just this week, this dolly has gone on sale on ebay, it is a true collectable, with passport signed by it's various "mothers", and a diary listing it's travels. It also has a number of outfits, representative of the countries it has visited. The proceeds of the auction, go to a World Vision child they sponsor. Dissappointingly after a couple of days it has only gone to about U$85, ( when these things will bring upwards of $1000) And if one was ever looking for one with.,.. ( I suppose pedigree is the right word here)... this thing should make big $$$$. There you go... the worlds' of reborn doll, and replica watches collide. What a positively boring bit of trivia Will advise a final outcome. Offshore

FxrAndy Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 So are you asking if it would be a good idea to do the same with a watch, Ie ziggy for a service, flav for some lume ect and then auction it for a good cause That would be a good idea, a better way to ensure that it got the return it needed would be to raffle it, 200 tickets at $5 each is a good return, A fully modded MBW for 5 bucks, that could even pay for the watch and modding and still create a return.

offshore Posted July 10, 2007 Author Report Posted July 10, 2007 So are you asking if it would be a good idea to do the same with a watch, Seriously, hadn't crossed my mind (but its a pretty small mind) It may work, although the probs I've seen with both the PAW, and this doll (They get lost in all parts of the world) would mean that I couldn't see a "works" MBW being available for an auction/raffle anytime soon. And in our world, by the time it was completed it would already have been "outdated".... Bit of a gazump really! Nevertheless, an interesting concept.... any other thoughts people? TTK, will post a link when my missus gets home and gives it to me.... seriously think the photo skills may be a little lacking! Offshore

Always chasing after the little crumb crunchers, making sure they don't get into trouble... Neat concept with the Reborn Doll... It represents a very good cause, and I hope it does well!
