mysql Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 (edited) I see that the domain is registered by someone in Malaysia, but the traceroute says the box is located in the united states.. [trace information deleted at admin's request] Edited March 18, 2006 by mysql
Admin Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 No boxs in the US, so no worries. A proxy, located at an ISP in the US, now that is another story....What lengths we go to protect ourselves....
jjajh Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Bounce here...bounce there...it is kind of like the shell game. You never really know where that little pea is.
mysql Posted March 18, 2006 Author Report Posted March 18, 2006 ah, so you're running a reverse squid proxy?
Admin Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Anyway, no need to discuss technical aspects like this in the open. IF the wrong people are watchin'
M5Man Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Anyway, no need to discuss technical aspects like this in the open. IF the wrong people are watchin' Not too worried about them. Anonymous proxies, offshore servers rock
vmena Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 ah, so you're running a reverse squid proxy? Please, no need to provide details to those that would be happy closing this forum.
Cucumber_Jones Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Is the reverse squid like the reverse cowgirl? If so I dig it!
Guest overboosted Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 No need to worry, admin has a good handle on how to make a board pretty untouchable.
Watchmeister Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 I am going to have to remember that "reverse squid proxy" thing. I have no idea what it means but I will definitely recite it to the tech guy who takes care of the computers in the office. He was actually one of the early on successful hackers.

I have no idea what it means but I will definitely recite it to the tech guy who takes care of the computers in the office. He was actually one of the early on successful hackers. Just make sure you put it in a techie connection and don't ask "sooooo...have you been eatin' some reverse squid proxy lately?"
Watchmeister Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 That term belongs in the fabulously classic B movie - Hackers - Hack the Planet!
Watchmeister Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Or perhaps in Johnny Mnemonic with the Dolphin controlling the rebel transmission system.
dcrooz Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Yeah guys, keep it all under wraps - no reason for us (let alone anyone else) to know any of the technical ins and outs.
gpuck Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 It bothers me that people ask these types of questions on the open forum when they can PM one of the mods. If you have a concern about getting caught why would you bring it to the forfront when you know that will just draw unwanted attention? Geeeeeeeesssssssshhhhhhh! Keepin it on the lowdown, gpuck
mysql Posted March 18, 2006 Author Report Posted March 18, 2006 Or perhaps in Johnny Mnemonic with the Dolphin controlling the rebel transmission system. The sweet irony of Reeves being in mnemonic, the matrix, etc. is that he doesn't even own a computer, and has no desire to get one. Anyway, for those wondering, a squid proxy lets you cache data from the internet for an internal network - or even an ISP. When a user requests a page, the proxy will do the actual downloading, then send the results to the user. The proxy can then store a copy locally. The next time the page is requested, the proxy serves the local copy without having to request it again. There's more to it, but this is basically what it boils down to. A reverse proxy works the other way around. The users connect to the proxy (which looks like a web server to the end user), which in turn requests data from one or more servers that run behind it. It too can cache data and serve it without requesting it from the actual web server. This isn't top secret stuff (squid proxy is open source - you can google this info if you wanted), so I don't think it's an issue for me to explain.

jraines87 Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 If this thread is a problem, please delete it. I don't have any attachment to it Na, we'll let it ride... It's Pretty informative and is civil. (Although it does really belong in off topic ). We'll worry about putting threads in the proper forum down the road. We're just glad everyone is around chatting it up....
Drizznay Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Is the reverse squid like the reverse cowgirl? If so I dig it!

jkerouac Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 I am curious where *.cc is. I haven't run across that one before. Not a big deal, but a source of curiosity. I may end up doing a search.
