mysql
I see that the domain is registered by someone in Malaysia, but the traceroute says the box is located in the united states.. Admin
No boxs in the US, so no worries. A proxy, located at an ISP in the US, now that is another story....What lengths we go to protect ourselves....

Watchmeister
I am going to have to remember that "reverse squid proxy" thing. I have no idea what it means but I will definitely recite it to the tech guy who takes care of the computers in the office. He was actually one of the early on successful hackers. Just make sure you put it in a techie connection and don't ask "sooooo...have you been eatin' some reverse squid proxy lately?"

Watchmeister
Or perhaps in Johnny Mnemonic with the Dolphin controlling the rebel transmission system.
dcrooz
Yeah guys, keep it all under wraps - no reason for us (let alone anyone else) to know any of the technical ins and outs.
gpuck
It bothers me that people ask these types of questions on the open forum when they can PM one of the mods. If you have a concern about getting caught why would you bring it to the forfront when you know that will just draw unwanted attention? Geeeeeeeesssssssshhhhhhh! Keepin it on the lowdown, gpuck
mysql
Or perhaps in Johnny Mnemonic with the Dolphin controlling the rebel transmission system. The sweet irony of Reeves being in mnemonic, the matrix, etc. is that he doesn't even own a computer, and has no desire to get one. Anyway, for those wondering, a squid proxy lets you cache data from the internet for an internal network - or even an ISP. When a user requests a page, the proxy will do the actual downloading, then send the results to the user. The proxy can then store a copy locally. The next time the page is requested, the proxy serves the local copy without having to request it again. There's more to it, but this is basically what it boils down to. A reverse proxy works the other way around. The users connect to the proxy (which looks like a web server to the end user), which in turn requests data from one or more servers that run behind it. It too can cache data and serve it without requesting it from the actual web server. This isn't top secret stuff (squid proxy is open source - you can google this info if you wanted), so I don't think it's an issue for me to explain. It's Pretty informative and is civil. (Although it does really belong in off topic ). We'll worry about putting threads in the proper forum down the road. We're just glad everyone is around chatting it up....
