The New Milgauss is released!

Found this while browsing with my morning coffee.

I like the look of the 40mm case with smooth bezel. The wrist shots look great!

Would love to get the gen with green sapphire. Ahhhhhhh. Although the purists out there don't really seem to like it.

The waiting list for these new watches have been insane since the Basel show many months ago.

Rolex will sell them like hotcakes.

But at the same time, Rolex will be selling out on their integrity. Just my opinion, but Rolex really has no respect for their own past anymore. Sad but true.

Don't get me wrong, they are nice models, but in an Omega kinda way.

I have been admiring the new Milgauss as well. The new 40mm case looks very tasty specially with the green sapphire.

I asked an AD about availability recently and they had no clue what I was talking about. Not too surprising but a large AD should at least know the model existed.

I suspect collectors are going to be all over these, at least initially.

I hear ya Euno, I still can't get over what Rolex did with the branding on the rehaut , not to mentioned all the tricky colors on the dials.

Reminds one of Black Lightning, the first black Super-Hero.

As a shameless 'retro' throwback it is uninspired, insipid and deathly dull

And it's not the lightning hand. That at least looks good on the 'real' Milgauss; i.e. the 6541 sitting in my watchbox

Wow, I wonder what it would be like if we were able to rewind time for 30+ years, go back to when Rolex first introduced the red sub or DRSD? Would everyone be so up in arms about that change too? Or when the original milgauss was introduced? That must have really make some folks shake their head in disbelief. My local AD said the waiting list for this watch is longer than the SS daytona. Even the Yachty II has a long waiting list. To me, the YMII is an ugly watch, but I will defend it as it is an engineering marvel! Rolex designed a great movement in that timepiece. It is actually now a yachting watch and can be used as such, whereas the previous version did what? Nothing.

I personally don't like the Yachtmaster. However, I don't think the current Milgauss, (which looks like an updated 1019 with a bit of 6541 thrown in, and fairly consistent with other well received updates..) or even the Yachtmaster (which looks like it could be a bad 15 year old china fantasy rep...) deserve to be criticized so harshly as to put Rolex into Swatch (Omega) territory....

That is some really clownish crap coming from them... 007/gunbarrelled logoed dials? Crap, the Moon watch was half way acceptable because of the achievement behind it, but now, not only are they turning out totally cartoonish pieces, but the QC is going to hell quicker than the Chinese are getting better. Same goes for Heuer, I haven't paid much attention to them since they were bought by TAG.

Rolex may have to cater a bit to some of the more outlandish tastes of the obscenely wealthy, as will any high end company, but at least they don't do schtick, and their quality has CERTAINLY never slid so far as Omega.

As to the modern Milgauss Rep, add internal green tinted AR and it would be as nearly near as a Rep can get.

I have to politely disagree. From these images, I can't help but like the unique and colorful design of this watch. The lightning seconds hand is an exciting touch, which fuses itself nicely with the orange hour markers and milgauss logo. The increased case size is also a great idea, adding a touch of sportiness to a timelessly elegant classic Rolex design. Definitely an alternative to those who find conventional Datejusts too petite, I believe this new watch will earn a well-deserved following, especially since it happens to be one of the more conservative and promising new ventures from the company.

And, if you're going to spend a couple dozen tons on "bling," and actually cared about whether or not all was "right,"

would you buy feel safer buying a Rolex?

The Doc touched upon an important point: it is a " shamelss retro throwback" that is "uninspired".

With no reverance/respect for their own history, it is no wonder that Rolex no longer supports repair on watches 25+ years old.

It's all about a new reality nowadays. Take a look at the new Yachtmaster. The next step Rolex will presumably take is to make a myriad of limited editions
