hi guys! been lurking around for a few hours reading the MILLIONS of topics this board has to offer!

i need a hand choosing which watch to buy to be honest, and i wonder if someone wouldnt mind giving me some advice! - i was set on a IWC for a number of reasons 1. i love their classic look 2. you never see them and finally 3. i know people will disagree, but generally most people i encounter have never even heard of the make. This i like because if i bought a rolex replica no one would even consider it might be real no matter how close to the orginal it is!

however, since reading the boards i have UPOitus and absolutely LOVE the look of it. I can also be as cool as Bond if i wear it apparently....

I am 6'4 and quite lankey.....i am worried that the UPO will look too big and clumpy....perhaps get the 42mm (Non Ultimate) version? i dont really like a watch too look too big and obvious (as i am sure it would on my wrist!). i know it would be just as unlikely for people to believe i have one of these also...but i can get over that.

would someone please rub my back and tell me it wouldnt look too out of place on my wrist and the photos just make it look 'hockey puck' or would i be better of with something like IWC0017A - Mark XV Classic Black SS - Swiss ETA (are these quite thin?) large diam is fine...just not too thick?!

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks so much for taking the time to read :) its so hard to choose something when there are so many beautiful watches - no wonder so many of you guys have remarkable collections!

oh god just remembered the TAG monza.....

Doode

You'll do fine with both the 42mm and the 45mm UPO. It's all a matter of perspective - I worried about the size and went for the 42mm (which is a great watch in it's own right BTW), but then I realized that the 45 mm was no bother either.

The IWC choices are fantastic - let's face it , you're going to need more than one watch! :p

There are so many choices with them. My favourite watch of all is the Ingy in my sig. But there are so many impressive models.

Welcome - and best of luck! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

thanks for the reply - i will indeed be needing more that one watch!

so you think a 45mm UPO on a thin girly wrist will look ok? hmmm that is good news!

i think i might make one out of paper before i buy hahaha

maybe a silly question....but and expensive rep is likely to last right? i got that impression from reading a few posts..just need to be sure!

There are wrists of all sizes here :D , in fact the bigger wrists often have a hard time getting extra links!

Personally, I wouldn't stress on either size PO. I have, err, 4!

Good reps will last but I will caution you that reps are really a game of percentages; you absolutely WILL have problems sooner or later. And that counts for gens too, just the percentages are better. There is nothing to fear from the Asian 21J movement either - apart from anything else, if it conked out it's very cheap to replace. Going for ETA just for longevity's sake can occasionally be a false economy. That said, the ETA movement is of course better - and for many watches, the same movement as the gen.

If you read and read, you'll not go far wrong. You've already picked out some cracking watches! B)

I have a 42mm PO which I sourced from PT. It's the ETA version, and has been going strong for well over a year now. It's a very heavy and chunky watch. Very hockey puck IMHO, but a great watch none the less, I love it. I also have the ETA IWC Mk XV. Again a great watch, not super slim, but not chunky either. Hey, get both.... instant collection !! :D

wow everyone is so nice here....well i have made my own rep and the UPO is, needless to say MASSIVE, but i have also tried to compare it to that of a cheap 'knockoff' (not a copy - a made up one!) omega speedmaster i bought a couple of years ago. it appears to be around 13mm deep and 43mm diam and does fit quite nicely...i wonder is a couple more mm would make a massive difference...

on another (possibly annoying note) can anyone recommend a nice classic looking watch (based on what i have already mentioned....black...black strap) with dimensions of around 10mm deep and 40mm diam.......probs a stupid questions but if ones out there off the top of anyones head!!

Welcome to the board, dudeman, from a fellow Brit.

Don't be worried about your uPO not fitting. Here is my 42mm Planet Ocean on my slim 5.7" wrist.

Please note that it wears smaller with an orange strap:

My father is your precise height, and has a similar soign

Hi and welcome, another good rep you could get is the breitling SteelFish Super Ocean, you can get it with ETA or an Asian 21j and ther asian is at a very good price, i would say it feels a bit smaller than the UPO but a very good rep, the ETA is a bit better with a better sweep on the seconds hand and good AR coating on the crystal, have a search around the breitling area there is lots to read on this one.
