By-Tor
Yeah, this is old news. Lots of (bad) rep Rolexes in the movies actually... Nicholas Cage was wearing one, and also the star of the 24h... Jack Bauer. Awful reps by the way... they should get their stuff from our dealers. I bet the special Quartz movement makes it a very accurate timepiece. LOL
slay
I posted a picture of a rolex used in CSI which was also fake. but apparently members here think its not bad at all to have reps in movies (i still dont get how anyone can think that fake guns are the same as rep watches...!) jdkno
I think in most cases reps are used in movies for practical reasons. For example in an action movie and or tv show. The real actor has to have the watch and so does the stunt man. Chances of breaking a real watch during filming is probably pretty high, also lets say they used real watches and destroyed 5-10 of them during production..the cost could add up pretty quick. Also I would be willing to bet that a decent amount of movie props come up missing on the set, if they were using real $5K watches I wonder how long they would take to walk off the set..... As for using fake guns, most if not all movie guns are real or atleast started out that way. They are modified real guns that are made to chamber and fire only blanks. Victoria
I think in most cases reps are used in movies for practical reasons. Ahh, a kindred spirit. You might like this thread -- "Prop Watches In the Movies". As for using fake guns, most if not all movie guns are real or atleast started out that way. slay
the point is, fake watches are from a questionable source. its not like rolex sends out "prop" watches that have 21j asian movements. or are you suggestion rolex is producing the low end reps itself? gavidoc
Not all movie guns are "real" ones modified. Only the firing ones or the closeup "hero props" are real guns. All the others (known as stunt props or stunt guns) are resin, rubber, plastic or wooden copies. Watches that are sponsored by makers (like Omega and Casino Royale) do the same thing. They provide real hero watches for the closeups which work and stunt watches which don't (real case, dial and hands but no movement). One was sold at an auction house last year. Rolex also did that for Bond's watches in some movies. Stunt props were used that were real rolex's but with movements removed and dials reworked for his gadgets. POTR
Has no one, other than I, yet considered that "the Bride" is wearing an OBVIOUS rep to represent she is well-traveled, as well comfortable with living with deceit and thin disguise? Ummm... and the "supermagnet-mariner" was a real Rolex, gutted and reworked by the studio...

The Mentalist
So why did Brandon Lee die? An empty shell casing lodged in the gun from a previous take was fired out by the blank charge from the subsequent take.
