Mitton Mar
Very good post, can't think why no one else has replied. The Speedmaster Professional is a fabulous watch to sport on your wrist, it is possibly the easiest to read the time with I've ever had - the reason I like it so much, plus its history of course. I've had three reps - including a 50th anniversary model which has now moved on, and kept wearing them all the time over all my other reps and gens, however because I can't wear a rep at work (I work with Patents and if I were found to be wearing a fake I would be in trouble), but unable to rid myself of my Speedmaster Addiction (and that is what it is) and wanting to wear one at work I bought a gen 3570, and wear it almost every weekday to work. One thing, your comments on the size above are not quite right, the gen Pro Moonwatch is significantly larger than the reps that are available, it might not be noticeable to an uninformed glance, and indeed at first I had to take a few seconds at first when telling them apart from a distance, but now that I am much more familiar with the gen, there is a huge difference to the trained eye, especially from a side-on angle where the gen look much flatter due to the long slope of the hesalite crystal. The other big difference is in the lugs, the gen has narrower lugs than the reps I have or the ones on offer above. However the biggest difference is the proportion of the face as you rightly point out, the gen has a wide look compared to the rep fotos above - and also to tell you the truth the gen dial is much more of a very dark charcoal grey colour rather than jet black. The printing on the back of the watch (FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON NASA ET...) is also lighter in colour than jet black. Great post, thanks for all the work you did, and do enjoy your watch. One thing, though, have you thought about the hit you are taking on a rep? I mean to say Edited March 22, 2008 by Mitton Mar

Pugwash
The rep is exactly the same size as the gen. The main difference, apart from the subdials, is the crystal. Most gens have a heavily domed heselite crystal. The Seagull ST19 movement in the rep is amazing. I miss my old rep, but I'm hunting a gen now. Toadtorrent
Great post. I do like the Moonwatch with the inaccurate display back (not really that inaccurate as there apparently was a version that did have one)...but I've been debating about getting the 50th Anniversary one with the gold emblem...I don't know why, but for some reason that one calls to me...but the history of the Moonwatch also calls...aaaah...too many voices...I don't know who to respond to. That the one you had in the 'goes to the moon' post? I was hoping to see it one day (along with your STUNNING 3717) if anyone ever organises a get together here in the frozen north....... BTW at the Robert Bigger Pawnshop down on Argyl Street, they had a Moonwatch in stock about three weeks' ago, (1972 Vintage - real beauty) I went in because they had a sign "ALL WATCHES -20% Today"... Ev_
Cheers for the reply, Mitton Mar. Great info. So the rep and gen are the same diameter, but it's just an optical trick that makes the gen look bigger... I can see exactly how the dial being more recessed on the rep would give this impression, too.
chrgod
Great watch, and a good read. @Mitton-Mar: Excellent comparison. I am a bit confused that the replica on Rubys site has the white painted Omega logo on the dial, like the genuine, but the one you have has a metal logo. I know the oldest Speedies had a metal logo, but is the current version produced with both options? By the way: I have the "Speedmaster Reduced", the smaller automatic version. Also a great watch, If you like to alternate between bigger and smaller watches. Usually a good buy on the used market. Anyway, "Ev_ " wear it with pride! The Mentalist
This is because the dial of the rep is recessed further from the lip of the bezel (the gen dial is closer to the glass) which means it looks bigger to the eye... Basically you're saying that the Gen Speedy has a shallower rehaut? Oh boy, you've opened up a can of worms here. Before you know it, there will be fur and claws flying whilst we argue about a 0.01mm difference in rehaut depth just like with the Subs. That rep with the metal logo is one among a couple I picked up in Shenzen in January, it has faux chronos as well, but is totally waterproof and I use it swimming three times a week and for wild Friday nights here in the murder capital of Europe. Great watch for the money. I'm going to get a Ruby one though.... no idea personally if both versions are available.... Basically you're saying that the Gen Speedy has a shallower rehaut? Never heard of the word "rehaut" before, thanks for that. Worms? Can? Good Lord I hope so....
baltic
@EV_ great review, nice to see another convert to the Speedy cause! My rep of it was the first rep I bought, in fact I loved it so much I sold it to help pay for a gen!! My review of the rep and gen is on By-Tor's Omega rep review. @ Pugwash, good luck in the hunt for a gen, you won't regret it!
robertk
Great review. A friend has the gen and we compared them. My rep...his gen. We had to study it for quite awhile...aside from the 6 O'clock subdial and the placement of the subdials (which you have to look at directly to see the difference), the differences were so subtle that you'd have to be fatally anal to spot it on the wrist. Ephry73
I hate to revive an old post, but I need some information on the Lemania Speedy reps. I am awaiting a package with a traded watch and in looking at the pictures, the bezel looks off (wish I had read this before the trade) as well as the dial not having the recessed sub-dials. Where could I get the non-display case back? Anyone want to trade? Is there a way to get the correct dial for the Lemania movement and also a correct bezel? The crown also looks too far out of the case, this I can probably fix with a drill press. Is it worth it to redo the rehaut with the correct color ring? How is the water rating on the aftermarket pushers? Other than that I suspect the watch to work flawlessly as I have a Daytona with the same movement. The person I traded with is a standup guy and so is the other person that worked on the watch supposedly. Thanks in advance. **pictures taken from original sales post not mine, but of the watch I'm to get in the mail** E
chrgod
It is nothing wrong with revive old goodwill watch reviews like this. it reminds us that although we have many excellent replicas today, there is still not a really good Speedmaster Pro. I Think eBay is the place to go for a closed caseback. According to some sources it fit the rep case. Same with the Lemania dial, however that will never fit the Seagull movement in your watch.. I have had a fantasy about buying a Lemania movement and Speedmaster dial to fit a rep case.. But do not know whether it is possible.
Ephry73
Ah. I kept reading and found that out. I guess a bezel/crystal upgrade and gen crown will do for now. E
