breitling genuine vs. rep rubber strap comparison

so i picked up a genuine breitling rubber strap a while back, and thought it might be helpful to take some pictures along with an old rep breitling strap that i had for comparison purposes. the genuine rubber strap is extremely comfortable, and well worth what i paid for it. the rep rubber strap attracts so much dust it is almost comical -- i tried to clean it off a bit before taking pictures, but as you will see, it still retained a bunch of dust despite my efforts to clean it.

here are the pictures (the rep strap is on top, the genuine is on the bottom):

hope this helps anyone who may be on the fence about the genuine rubber strap :victory:

I have always subscribed to the philosophy that a good strap goes a long way to making a decent rep better. On the Breitlings it is a fairly easy decision as they are readily available and reasonably priced (the rubber anyhow). I put one on the infamous ti CA and it made a huge difference. Thanks for the comparison. I had not known there were such large differences like letter size on a simple rubber strap. It probably is not something you would notice on its own but god forbid you run into someone else with a Breit on a gen rubber strap and it will be obvious.

I agree with all the above posters.

It has been said that the rubber strap on the gen is made of natural rubber (taken from trees) [maybe reason why it is so expensive].

and the strap on the rep is made of silicone.

Similiar to the Omega rubber straps - the damn dust. No matter how much you clean the straps, dust appears just like that. However, instead of paying $$$ for the Omega, fortunately, the OEM Breitling straps are about $75. Got one from the bay for $55.

Indeed.

Pam lovers will spend a couple hundred bucks on the most ugly leather strap they can find.

Gen Breitling rubber and leather is priced right and great quality,on a rep it helps the 'gen' feel to the watch.

$75 or so for the gen rubber is a no brainer..... B)

Dust is the biggest problem on the rep rubber bands (all of them).

The only one (rep rubber band) that is dust repelling is the Hublot one.

Rep rubber bands for Breit , Pams , Chopard , etc.. all they attract duct.

I have also the genuine Breit rubber band and is miles awayt from the rep one.

Good choise.

Hi,

almost agreed. The Porsche Design is excellent at repelling dust. At least not to catch it.

The Chopard is the worst I've seen, at least on the Asian version. Not to mention an Omega I bought for 10 dollars and which went to dustbin in a minute.

I don't understand why rep makers use such a bad rubber. A question of a few cents cost saving ??

The HBB is not really rubber, maybe this explains that.

Looks more like PVC or something. Well, plastic :)

Just bought a Tag Heuer Golf. And I will resell it because I'm a dust foe

I just got a gen blue rubber strap for my SOSF

i love it. It actually makes the watch more comfortable than the rep leather strap cause its more stable on my wrist- its not so "top heavy"

the rubber on the 48mm corum has been excellent, thats what had me looking to rubber straps

The Corum Admirals Cup is good, probably the same as the Porsche as well.... B)

The Chopard is garbage....the Breit. gens are cheap anyway,so no need for reps there....
