DarrenH
I now have a couple of nice reps - my favorite being Pt's Yachtmaster TT (14k) with ETA 2836 movement. I want to keep this as my 'special occasion' watch and get an everyday rep! I've been considering an Omega SMP (blue) with the ETA 2824 movement. Can anyone tell me the difference between the 2836 and the 2824?! So the main question is, I want to buy an everyday watch - will the Omega SMP fit the bill? KB
Someone will pop along soon and tell you the difference between those two movements but yes the SMP is a very good daily beater. Please in future take care not to post questions in the step up forum Ken
Pugwash
I've been considering an Omega SMP (blue) with the ETA 2824 movement. Can anyone tell me the difference between the 2836 and the 2824?! To an end-user? A 40-hour reserve on the 2836 vs a 38 hour reserve on the 2824. The 2824 is thinner, and that's about it, iirc.
alligoat
The 2836 has a day/date and the 2824 is strictly date, the 2824 being 4.6 lignes thick versus say 5.2 for the 2836. Ironically, reps use the 2836 more often than the 2824, but they don't make use of the day feature, as in your Yachtmaster, which is only a date watch. Otherwise, the movements are almost identical. The 2834 is a third variation, with the day/date, day at 12 o'clock, like the Rolex day-date watch. I believe it's bigger (maybe 13.5 lignes vs 11.5 for the other two). All good movements, 25 jewels, automatic. You can go to www.eta.ch/ for more info, look under Mecaline, or www.ofrei.com/ or www.julesborel.com/ under movements for more info
By-Tor
So the main question is, I want to buy an everyday watch - will the Omega SMP fit the bill? Yes it does. It's comfortable, handsome, rugged and elegant... and because it's a Bond watch it's one of the most famous wristwatches. But not "flashy" or "bling". I love it, and SMP is always my first choice for the "everyday watch".
chrgod
Go for the Omega SMP. Best daily beater there is, in my opinion. I like it better than the new Planet Ocean, which is a bit too flashy for me. The SMP is classy and the real one is not to expensive..
supermanx
SMP has been my beater watch for years, before I started getting reps. Ironically this is the first day I've worn it in over a month. Although now my 8 year old smp looks like new thanks to by-tor's refinishing guide and an $18 bezel insert from ebay.
