ubiquitous
Giving Pugwash's suggestion of reversing the lens for macro functionality Can you see the service etch? Nice, close pics achieved but with a slight 'tunnel effect' going on; I suspect this is because I was holding one lens inverse to the lens on my camera. Thoughts? ubiquitous
Thanks, fellers! @Corgi Which ones would you like? I have larger resolution files available...
Guest carlsbadrolex
As I have offered before, I have a neighbor that owns a printing company. He owes me some work and can print posters of any picture given the native resolution is good enough. I would LOVE larger resolution pics of the pearl, the Tudor Oyster Prince and Cosmograph. RWG Technical
I think they look cool...the darker circle around the outer edge just adds a bit of artistic flare to them. I think it forces you to focus on the center of attention instead of the surroundings. RG
ubiquitous
Thanks for the kind words, gang! I'm no photographer, but a buddy of mine says that the effect is 'vignetting', which I've come to understand is not necessarily a desired effect. So... It looks like more practice for me! However, I've got to say that the macro achieved by reversing a lens is really quite neat and very effective. I may have to get one of those reversal rings that Pug was talking about... I may have to get one of those reversal rings that Pug was talking about... Vignetting is a tool in a photographer's arsenal that is only needed when trying to achieve a specific effect. The best way to get rid of unintentional vignetting is to crop the picture. Reversal rings are cheap and very effective. Now you've seen what you can do, you now know the $5 is well worth it. Keep going, your watches are some of the ones I want to see more macros of!
Pugwash
Oh, and another advantage of cropping is you can get a horrendous amount of macro onto the forums Original macro photo reduced to 640px wide: Pixel-for-pixel crop of that same photo:

Pugwash
Okay... Took some of those pics and cropped. I dig the results! The only problem with your macro shots is that we can't see your marble surface. ps. Amazing crops! Now we're cooking.
ubiquitous
Thanks, pugs! Coming from the resident photog expert, that means a lot to me! Will keep experimenting with shots...
