Finally, courtesy of Precious Time's raffle, here are the final photos of my MoonWatch.

As you can see, I had to go to the moon to get the right lighting:

This shot was taken inside the shuttle, where we had to do our equipment checks:

Here, you can see the MoonWatch in it's zero-gravity holder:

82586-30053.jpg

It started floating away here:

It floated out of the shuttle into space, where it snagged a satellite:

82586-30055.jpg

But eventually, it started falling to the moon surface:

82586-30056.jpg

Here, it bumped into an old friend:

Look, there's that satellite again!

Amazing watch, by the way. Lemania-copy Venus, blah, chrono, rhubarb, stainless-steel, blah ... Amazingly for an Omega, it has two settings on the strap clasp meaning it doesn't need half-links. The bracelet is held together with pins and tubes, so get a toolkit to size it.

Differences with the genuine: The real Omega moonwatch comes in three flavours: The 3573.50.00 with the display back, the 3510.50.00, which is a slightly smaller automatic, and the 3570.50.00, which is the proper non-display-backed Moon Watch.

The replica is a copy of the 3573.50.00, but the movement is a Venus movement instead of the Lemania used in the genuine. This leads to an old favourite: a subdial spacing issue. On the genuine, the dials are much closer to the centre, but you need to know to look for it. Apart from that, it's pretty damned close.

I love the watch for its retro looks and its history. Like a Panerai 111h, it doesn't need to modernise with an Automatic movement. It has no fear of any comparisons as it can always reply "Yes, but I went to the moon." You can't argue with a watch like this.

The watch can also go dressy with the simple addition of a black leather strap, as can be seen here:

I could go on for hours, but my dinner is ready. I hope the pics encourage you to consider buying one of these watches. You'll be happy you did.

Love the Moony

Looking at the rep, the subdials look to be spaced about the same as the (gen) Speedy Reduced auto, yes, no?

And, of course, fantastic pics! I like the story that the images paint :)

You mean like a 7753? Yes.

Here's a comparison I did earlier:

My rep on the left, a gen 3510.50.00 on the right

YEs but the reduced use a 2894 not a 7753, too bad!

Is it possible to install a gen dial and movement on this case? either a manual or a 2894? should be a good franken project...but given the price of a speedy probably not worth it...

Is this why the seconds are at 3 instead of 9?

When a genuine MoonWatch isn't Daytona pricing, it seems cheaper to consider a second-hand gen.

Is this a 40mm? I've been wanting one, but the originals are 42mm. I keep waiting for a 42mm. Beautiful watch.

40mm across the bezel, 42mm across the case.

Hello Pugwash,

Your watch looks very nice and close to the gen in deed.

I would like to purchase this model, but I can't find it anywhere...

When did you buy yours ?

It seems not to be available anymore...

All I find today is this mix of a 3573.50.00 with the reduced 3570.50.00 :

Biggest problem, the crystal is far too flat, not domed as it should be.

Still looks nice if I manage to forget that it is not like the original moonwatch.

This particular version is getting rare: I've heard of them selling for higher than list price. I've never had an offer that tempted me, so I've never considered selling it. :D

Oh, and I currently wear it on a leather strap:

Copycat! :bleh: Nah, credit where it's due...Pug was the one who inspired me to 'leather up' in the first place - the modern bracelet and I just didn't get on and the watch lay unworn for a long time.

Speedy was my first serious watch - original was brought home by my father one night when I was a little nipper. I was fascinated with it (the watch and the Moon/NASA association) and begged him to have it as an early 7th or 8th (I forget which) birthday present. Unfortunately for me, it had what turned out to be a rather valuable inscription (let's just say it wasn't exactly supplied as a production model :whistling:) and my father flipped it  Still we spent a month on holiday in Italy that summer with the proceeds which more than made up for my disappointment :icecream: .

For the last 10 years or so, I've always kept an eye out for another gen vintage Speedy, even pre-Moon (some nice examples at Antiquorum's Geneva auction last month), but whilst I'm waiting my 4-year old Speedy with Venus does a great job. As you can see...unfortunately thanks to Pug's AMAZING photo montage, mine look like crap in comparison :(

pugwash you know you will regret selling that watch, even if it is for $350....

Sure, but it'll at least deter the low-balls I've had, without ever offering it up for sale. :D

I love this watch :)

I have always wanted to get the Snoopy award version, but it was never made in what I consider to be decent replica quality. If they made one like the versions in this thread, I would buy it for sure :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Here is a shot of the genuine, it shows the sub dial spacing issue clearly.

A great watch for a Snoopy fan like me!

Cheers :D

Well spotted, your eyes are fine :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Great strap - so-called 'bull' leather (ole!) gives it a nice matte finish and thick feel.

Deployant was a gift/swap from a friend here ;)

Oh, and please don't PM me either, I ain't taking any bets - if you really want a Speedy, be a good chap and make Pug an offer he can't refuse :victory:
