When Omega brought out the Seamaster Planet Ocean, they gave it a completely new bracelet to compliment the new watch - why the hell didn't Rolex do the same with the Deep Sea??? angry.gif Because they got lazey and/or cut the budget. Lord only knows how much a new bracelet design would have cost to implement. Money that could be better spent (acording to Rolex) on an advertising blitz. Col. Seems the traditional Rolex crowd don't like this 'un as much as those who have never been Rolex fans. To me that says they have got something wrong. The watch is not appealing to their client base rather to someone elses. Yep, you may just be correct there. The problem is, however, these are never used for their intended purpose. Not nowdays anyway. No one actualy uses a dive watch as a tool. That's what dive computers are for. The bezel on a Rolex (like most "dive" watches) doesn't even meet the international standerd for a dive watch. Face it, few if any of these are ever going to "go deep" Col. this is a point well taken Col. I believe the people that have worn and grown up with the traditional Rolex (let's face it, the design has stayed basically the same for generations.. for good reason) .. it did not need revamping for aesthetics, or any other reason. This may be a design that will grow with the months or years, as Rolex Owners trancend into the younger generation. As Allergydoc points out well ... when this first appeared members adamently disliked the "look".. those same members are wearing it today.. .. so I guess the moral of the story is.... My new yellow Seawolf has taken up all my wrist time since I received it, and that is a big thick watch too, but so much better proportioned with the 22mm bracelet and thinner lugs.... Never say Never... Not all of them. I was 1 of the few who initially liked the DS (admittedly, for case display purposes only). But the more I saw, the less I liked. And Lani's eye-opening review finally clinched it for me. Trying to fit the DS into my collection would be like trying to fit a fat man into the center seat in coach - not a pretty sight. From my experience, AP, IWC, Pams and to a certain extent Hublot (don`t like it either) has been the choice lately for the it crowd. I`m talking gens and real world off course, not in relations to different forums and the hard core collectors. 2005SUBMARINER Posted February 5, 2009 Report Share Posted February 5, 2009 Man i just bought this rep from my friend andrew Deep Sea Dweller SS Black BEST - Asia 2813-2 21J i couldent afford the eta / sapphire version , so i went with the mineral crystal / dg2813 version i figure if the movement dies i can easily replace it with a $15 / $20 dg movement .... i cant wait to receive this beast , i havent buy a rep since the ets's where $179 a pop ahhhhhh the good old days . but i just couldent resist the low price on a well built beast .. I just wish they would have gone all the way and made the whole watch a cool "deep sea" piece and not just the case. They are definitely on to something... QFT, brother, QFT I think if the dial had been enlarged to fill the bezel area, rather than the unnecessarily large rehaut, then it would be great. A truly 'plus sized' Submariner/SD, with all the benefits of that enlarged size, but, as it is, I think you're spot on in you assessment of Rolex's motives. I have to admit, I thought they were larger than that...
