Hey, a brother fire fighter! 12 years of Rural/Auxillery service this end.

When Omega brought out the Seamaster Planet Ocean, they gave it a completely new bracelet to compliment the new watch - why the hell didn't Rolex do the same with the Deep Sea??? angry.gif

Because they got lazey and/or cut the budget. Lord only knows how much a new bracelet design would have cost to implement. Money that could be better spent (acording to Rolex) on an advertising blitz.

Although the photos were really great and did show off the Deepsea well, I still find myself not liking this watch at all. It's not in balance, the bracelet and end links being 20mm is just wrong for such a large thick watch, it looks out of proportion, at least to me anyway ;)^_^

I still like the watch but I completely agree with you about the bracelet. :bad:

Nice pics but I still don't like the watch. Love the clasp but that's about all. Seems the traditional Rolex crowd don't like this 'un as much as those who have never been Rolex fans. To me that says they have got something wrong. The watch is not appealing to their client base rather to someone elses.

Yep, you may just be correct there. The problem is, however, these are never used for their intended purpose. Not nowdays anyway. No one actualy uses a dive watch as a tool. That's what dive computers are for. The bezel on a Rolex (like most "dive" watches) doesn't even meet the international standerd for a dive watch. Face it, few if any of these are ever going to "go deep"

Col.

this is a point well taken Col.

I believe the people that have worn and grown up with the traditional Rolex (let's face it, the design has stayed basically the same for generations.. for good reason) .. it did not need revamping for aesthetics, or any other reason. This may be a design that will grow with the months or years, as Rolex Owners trancend into the younger generation.

As Allergydoc points out well ... when this first appeared members adamently disliked the "look".. those same members are wearing it today.. .. so I guess the moral of the story is.... Never say Never... :thumbsupsmileyanim:

You too my friend! My new yellow Seawolf has taken up all my wrist time since I received it, and that is a big thick watch too, but so much better proportioned with the 22mm bracelet and thinner lugs....

I have finally thought of the word that sums up this watch, bulbous, and not in a good way ;)

Cheers! B)

When this watch was first announced everyone here panned it. Now look at how many of us own a rep!

Not all of them. I was 1 of the few who initially liked the DS (admittedly, for case display purposes only). But the more I saw, the less I liked. And Lani's eye-opening review finally clinched it for me.

Trying to fit the DS into my collection would be like trying to fit a fat man into the center seat in coach - not a pretty sight.

I know i am playing the devils advocate here so i`ll elaborate.

I speak as a watch lover, not on behalf of the market. With the business hat on, sure TT DJ is the best watch ever made. But certainly this is a forum where more than normally interested guys share their opinion, not a place to add and subtract. I think the TT DJ is one of the most boring generic watches that`s ever made, to the regular Swiss watch consumer i

. Rolex was about to die a slow death with the "cool crowd"

??

Are you nuts.. Rolex has had the strongest watch revival of al major brands during the last years.

hence all the pimp my ride bling bling hip hop watches

Watch revival, amongst who you idiot!!! (just kidding, trying to play along with the abbott and costello tone) but seriously, amongst who?

From my experience, AP, IWC, Pams and to a certain extent Hublot (don`t like it either) has been the choice lately for the it crowd. I`m talking gens and real world off course, not in relations to different forums and the hard core collectors. BUT as i said, Rolex is as strong as they ever where, du to the new lineup, especially the DS.

A lot of people are sending me PM asking who the dealer was.

It was Toro Bravo, but in my understanding most of them are carrying this V3 Deepsea.

Condemore

Is there anybody here who can point me the major differences between V2 and V3?

Looks like some of you prefer the V2

Reg, a guy who passes so many watches through his hands has got to have some variety. Looks good on ya. I just wish they would have gone all the way and made the whole watch a cool "deep sea" piece and not just the case. They are definitely on to something...

QFT, brother, QFT :)

I think if the dial had been enlarged to fill the bezel area, rather than the unnecessarily large rehaut, then it would be great. A truly 'plus sized' Submariner/SD, with all the benefits of that enlarged size, but, as it is, I think you're spot on in you assessment of Rolex's motives.

Of course, absolutely fantastic pictorial, so kudos indeed :good:

Are the end links definitely 20mm? I have to admit, I thought they were larger than that... Awesome if they are 20mm, I'll get an Asian to salvage the bracelet from when I get round to my project :)

lug width is 21mm. i own the V3 Asian clone.

Steve

Thanks for the info, it's much appreciated :) If I were to file the sides down .5mm on each side, do you think that the spring bar channel would line up with lug holes on another model Sub or GMT II?
