kokedose
Hi @ll, After loosing two crystals to the much discussed K2222 (Jakub) I have been searching for a supplier for AR coating in the EU. I think i may have found one and need the communities help. I do not have any crystals at the moment that are waiting for AR and so i need a volunteer! I basically need any Sapphire crystal to send to the coating plant for coating to see what the appearance and durability are going to be like. It is a bit of an ask i know but if one of you guys has a crystal lying around that you can forward to me as a loaner for a couple of weeks then you could end up with a great AR coated Crystal for free or at the least have the crystal returned as sent (i will have the crystal stripped if the AR doesn't come up to scratch, scuse the pun). If all goes according to plan and the AR is good i will be offering the service to EU members at a reasonable price (with admins kind permission!) So, if anyone can help pls PM me. Be lucky @ll Thanks guys

FxrAndy has very kindly offered to send a crystal for test purposes and i think i will have that one done first to see what the outcome is. Having said that, if the Sapphire is good then it may be a good idea to try a mineral as well. Be lucky @ll

simzger
I have a sapphire tester if you were in London... Good luck! If I'd seen this earlier, I have a few that need this ... hopefully if it works! i'm very excited about this, i also have a guy in EU that may be able to do it, he's an optician though and i don't know if it's the same type of AR as the one used for watches. it would be the coolest if we had someone in EU to do it. oberblender
I am also really interested in the outcome of this. So I basically post to be subscribed to the thread... hope the test will work out fine!
kokedose
To answer a few questions. The AR is going to be the same Blue/Purple colour that Jakub used to do. The AR coat will be double or single sided depending on requirements from the customer. I'm not sure about cost yet as i haven't received my invoice for the test crystal that is currently with the coating company. I hope to have some pics to post in the next 5 - 7 days. I am not a watch smith and so will only be accepting removed crystals for the time being, this may change if i can find a reliable/competent watch smith. Thanks for all the interest guys, i really hope to be able to provide the AR service for our EU members Watch this space......

Chronus
Koke - if it works and is affordable, I would suggest to start with a small run of say 10 crystals and see how it goes before taking on a second run that may be 15-20 crystals. You don't want to get snowed under with crystals and constant emails from impatient members. Chief seems to be quite organised, so take tips from him. Anyone who wants to use any future service - I would suggest send 1 crystal the first time to see the final results and if you are happy with it. kokedose
Hey @ll. Just a quick update on the AR coating. I have had the crystal kindly loaned to me by fxrandy back from the coating company but the colour is wrong. I am told that the problem can be solved and we can have the blue AR but it will take a bit longer. The AR is very good IMO and seems to stand up to the washing up scouring pad test very well and survived without any scratches Once the colour is sorted i will post again, but for now here is the crystal with the green hue AR to give you an idea of the actual anti reflectivity (snapped under direct halogen bulb) For those who asked, i think the price is going to be about
kokedose
forgot to mention, there are absolutely no tooling marks on the outside edge of the crystal

kokedose
is this service going to be done in the UK then? The coating company isn't UK based but the crystals will be received and sent from the UK. I am not taking any orders at the moment as the colour needs to be correct. cheers
