  2. I came to the forums looking for a Rolex GMT of better quality than the 'knockoffs' I had seen. I never liked the 'Pepsi' GMT with the Jubilee bracelet, it looked 'cheap' to me. The 'Retro' from Joshua was my first, a 16710 with the 'Coke' red/black insert and Oyster bracelet, and 'Swiss ETA2836-2. I loved, and still love it. That was a few months before the ceramic became available, and Josh didn't know when it would be offered. I knew the GMT ceramic was the 'ultimate' for me with the 'maxi dial', easier to see with my tired, old eyes, and the insert looked of quality, unlike the metal inserts. The bracelet being solid was, to me, finally a worthy bracelet for a Rolex, and the Glide-Lock clasp, finally, that wasn't stamped steel. But the GMT ceramic had a green 4th hand, and a bigger, 'fatter' case, and the bracelet had a polished center. Nice, but no cigar. Then RolexAddict talked to me about the 'Vintage' models, and how none were available with the right dial, besides the case differences. We went on the quest to find a way to get a proper vintage GMT. Found a few, made a few, worked hard to get it right. RA is well known for his 1675 builds, they are gorgeous. I came to this site about the time that freddy333 was building his first Rolex 6542. That was it for me. I built my first, and have improved builds since, and made the insert as best I could. I now have the 6542, 1675 'Cornino', 16710 and 116710. The 16710 is next on the list to be upgraded using the 16570 case. I will make it to the 'K' specs, with lugs holes, 'Coke' insert, non-etched crystal, solid Oyster bracelet with SEL, but with the Glide-Lock clasp. I love that clasp! I've bought others. I had a PAM and a DSSD, and sold them off. A Breitling World GMT that was gorgeous, but so complicated I couldn't read the damn thing even with my reading glasses! A Daytona that was very nice, but the same issue reading the small dials. I have a TAG Mercedes SLR only because I have a Mercedes, and a Gold President with an Onyx dial for dress, and a TT Date-Just with Onyx because I like the look. I have a 6204 Submariner that I like quite a bit, and an Omega SMP 2541.80 that I converted to quartz so as to have a grab it and run watch, that I also like a lot. But it's been months now that I've worn either the 6542 or the 1675 for my daily wearer. The 'Pepsi' and Jubilee combination are my favorites. It's come full around.

  3. I live in a small town in Ontario Canada, about 10,000 people, and I have found a watchmaker who is currently repairing a broken jewel in my ETA 2836 movement from my DSSD. he has offered to call when the new jewel arrives and show me how to press it in. This is pretty exciting, it sounds like he is willing to teach me the ropes a little bit. Is it just me, or would this not be exciting for anyone else on the forum. Just wanted to share my news with you guys.

  4. Minutes hand should be ever so slightly narrower than in Phong's picture. The long tail on the seconds hand is good. I'd like to see a photo of those hands installed to a movement wearing that dial. Then we could tell better. The "hooked over" 6s in the depth are correct but the spacing is slightly too close together. All in all a darn good dial. Leap years better than Yuki's. Another comparison for you, notice how mine looks "less bold" than TMG's does in the sheild and fonts. Both are gen.

  5. They're okay al12, the minute hand looks a tad wide and indices are too yellow, depending upon your budget you can find gen dials and hands on VRM if you keep an eye out. Here's my gen 1970 7016 for reference of the hands sizes.

  6. All lthings considered, I would use WU for a watch from a trusted dealer, but you are correct, WU is a no recourse money transfer system, period! Once you hit send, it's gone. The biggest problem with WU is the cost. they are prohibitive. you might pay 40-50 dollars to transfer 400-500 USD. MoneyGram is a little cheaper, but not much. Idiots with unrealistic expectations and the inability to wait a reasonable amount of time for their goods are the reason so many dealers are having problems with PayPal.A couple of disputes filed, and the account is suspended, funds frozen and ultimately cancelled. Paypal is a private business, they make the rules, and you play by them or you are out.

  7. Welcome aboard Lo'! You might check with jmb and see if he's got anything left over. If not, you can go with the Trusty vintage Explorer 1 and hopefully it will work for you http://www.ttw168.co...products_id=567 It's generally regarded as a good rep and even though we suspect the eta will be an asian clone, it nontheless will hopefully function well. Another thing to do is keep using the Search Function and keep reading- there's a lot to learn around here. One of the things you can learn how to do is build watches- like the Explorer I- I built this one for around $500 I used a gen 1601 Datejust case, a relumed Yuki dial and a 2824-2 eta movement that I had lying around. Other parts were a set of Clark's hands, a jmb bezel and a Clark's T-22 crystal. It's more than a vintage Explorer I from Trusty, but it's a solid watch and WR to boot. You can learn how to build watches by sticking around here, but starting with a watch from Trusty (Andrew) would be a good first step.

  9. This is my favorite quote from the outcome of the election: "Someone asked me, Why did Mitt Romney lose? And I said because he got less votes than Barack Obama, that's why." New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie ®
