  3. One of the reasons I love vintage rolex a lot is because the watches have so much personality and character. The superdomes esp give you something cool to look at every time you check your wrist because they distort what you're looking at depending on the angle. I can't wear modern watches anymore for my own reasons but when I did I found myself trading/selling them way too often, I never formed a bond or connection to any of them. I was like you, I saw one on someone else and thought it was awesome, ran out and got one and then.. Meh.. Lol. As for the vintage watches, they ooze character and it's been really hard to part with even one of them. Doesn't even have to be Rolex!

  6. Black lume isn't that great. It will look nice under a blacklight, but it's pretty useless. The GEN Panda dial has black lume which is also not that impressive. Here are some pics of my watch.

  8. Fitting the Tropic 21 on the 1016 was a happy accident that occurred because, if I recall correctly, I was ordering some parts through jmb. (I was living in Asia and trying to save a few bucks in shipping costs.) When J completed his mods on both my 1601 and 16203 cases (he was working on two of my 1016 frankens simultaneously), he paired one with a Clark T22 and the other with a Clark T21--machining each bezel to match. The results were fantastic. Here are some fresh shots, with my gen 1016 on the left and the old Space-Dweller on the right. The crystals are a genuine domed Tropic 22 and a Clark T22. Optical properties are practically identical. And if you can tell the 0.5mm difference in diameter, you should probably buy a gen!

  11. Thanks! I've actually got a 42mm PO that is on it's way back to Andrew for a crown/stem issue out of the box. I'm looking forward to reviewing that when it gets back. The next purchase (probably after the PO gets back) is going to be the Tag Aquaracer 500M. I love the looks of it and almost bought the gen a few months back. It's very well reviewed.

  12. Why are people so concerned about the steel composition of their case? No one & I mean no one can tell the difference, visually, between the steel used to make a good rep 5513, 1680 or 1665 & the 316L Rolex used. In fact, with the possible exception of the brushed texture (which often looks better on reps), I cannot distinguish between my oldest, cheapest POS Sub rep case & my gens. Unless you plan to use your watch in an acid bath (in which case, 904L is definitely the way to go), I fail to see what all the hullabaloo over steel composition of rep/aftermarket cases is all about? If you are talking about a modern Rolex, which uses the slightly whiter 904L steel, then you might have a point. But, even then, very few people could ID a rep case without having the gen on hand for a direct comparison. I certainly would never put any money on my ability to identify the steel composition of a vintage Rolex watch on the street.
