  2. We'll guys, I did it. It may not be much of an accomplishment to some, but for me I feel Great. I sent my Omega Ploprof out on July 19th to MD2020 to have the date centered in the window. When I sent it, the watch was working perfectly and keeping great time. We'll as most of you know, MD had major issues and nothing I sent got fixed right. Although I was luckily enough to at least get my watches back, 4 months later, my Ploprof arrived broken! The crown & stem wouldn't go all the way in, the movement was mounted upside down ( MD had the crown on the right side like most other watches, but the Ploprof's crown belongs on the left side) and the hour hand was stuck at 6 o'clock. So after my initial frustration cooled down some, I decided I would start the process of trying to fix my own watches, if possible. So I started purchasing tools and getting things together to work on my own stuff. We'll today I decided to jump in and see what's up with the Ploprof. I took the watch apart & decased the movement. I found the movement was not mounted correctly in the ring / holder, so it was causing the movement & hands to sit lower under the dial than it should. So the hour hand was hitting the 6 o'clock stick marker on the dial. The seconds hand was also slipping. I had taken previous pictures of the watch movement inside the watch before and looking back at them, I could tell MD must have broken the original stem and replaced it. So the new stem now was just a tad too long. So I cut the stem just a bit, remounted the movement, reseated the hands, recased everything and Whoo Hoo. It's working great again. So far, it's keeping great time too. It's a great feeling to not only have my Ploprof back on my wrist, since the last time I wore it was back in early July, but I fixed it! Thanks goes out to Freddy333 for his suggestion to decase the movement to check if it stills sticks at 6 o'clock. Your suggestion gave me the idea to go ahead and give it a try. Here she is, in all her Beauty. Dave...

  3. Looking at the rep accessory section, it seems like lots of rep accessories, especially shoes and jackets, are priced higher than some of their genuine counterparts without a fancy label (Johnston & Murphy, Ecco, Columbia, North Face, etc.) While we can certainly see what the items look like from a picture, it's impossible to see how well they are made. Why don't the dealers destroy a few of the items they're selling and take detailed photos so buyers can see what's on the inside? Saw that $150 Prada dress shoe in half so we can see the internal construction and make sure it's good quality leather and not glued cardboard, cut those Canada Goose jackets open so we know they're not stuffed with dirty chicken feathers, etc. It won't break the bank for the dealers, and prospective buyers are much more likely to order knowing they're getting a quality item, not some Luckytiger8888 junk with a fancy label on it.

  5. Hello Rolex fans, I need some help. I am not a Rolex expert. I’m actually more into Breitling and IWC at this time, but when I first started collecting reps I liked Rolex best and still have a few. I have two watches here, a Yachtmaster Rolesium, and Submariner 16610. These were actually my first 2 reps ever and I bought them 15 years or more ago, maybe closer to 20. I’d been collecting vintage watches for quite a while and when I first got the internet, back in the 90s sometime, I blundered onto a web site selling Rolex reps. That was the only brand they carried and by today’s standards they were very expensive. I believe I paid over $500 each for these. I also had a gold Yachtmaster that I sold on the forum a while back and found out after the fact that it may have been an MBK or MBW, which I understand are premium brands. It had very thick gold plating and I paid over $700 for it. They both have ETA 25J movements, but I don’t know exactly which model number and I don’t have a tool to open them right now. As I mentioned earlier I am a novice when it comes to Rolex, so I need your opinions on what I have here. If it’s typical junk then so be it. You’re not going to hurt my feelings, but if it’s anything special I would like to know that too. I should mention that on the Sub the insert got all scratched up over the years and replaced it with one I had laying around off a cheap rep. If it is worth it, I plan to replace it with a better quality one. Anyway I appreciate your input.

  6. Ah so they aren't even made to gen spec, in that case make sure the dial is dust free and try gluing it back on. I wonder why they wouldn't use the same design as the orig. it's stupidly simple and effective and there's no glue!

  19. Hands removing is a part of the "job" which can screw either the hands or the dial or both if not careful. Look what I have seen some time ago on youtube* This is how most watchmaker work, I´ve seen also some Japanese watchmaker working with this "banal sheet of nylon" on current Grand Seiko´s. I personally place two sheets of these thin nylons over the dial, plus I cover all the tips of the hands remover (that may have direct contact with the hands) with small stripes of mask tape to be on the safer side. Despite this one has to be always very careful as scratches can be done very easy. You have done a splendid job on this build. Wear it often and in good health!

  22. Yes the gen is on the left. Cronus4, they come from Angus, Puretime. What does 1:1 mean? I'm just a relative newbie, but my understanding is a 1:1 rep is one where you can swap parts for gen ones and they will fit. They will still have flaws, how can they not when this watch costs $320 and the gen costs $2000? But they are a heck of a lot closer to gen than they ever where. Look here, people are still arguing over which is the rep and which is the gen in the photo above
