  2. Pretty obvious that tempus got their inspiration from that 5512. They don't exactly seem like the kind of people that miss details or "forget" to add an m. Seems like they know what they're doing quite well.

  3. An old thread & a bit dated now, but worthy of a bump.

  4. I have bumped a handful of old technical threads that I think will be of interest to newer members that missed them on their 1st run. RWG contains a true wealth of technical information that cannot be found (& has often been copied) on other sites - including the gen sites. These are the types of threads that brought many, including myself, to RWG & kept us here. Many (most?) of the breakthroughs that bridged reps, frankens & gens came from these threads, & many of today's vintage Rolex reps owe their accuracy to the pioneering work of many early & talented RWG members. Unfortunately, due to the passing of time & other indulgences, I am unable to add much to these threads beyond what they contain, so if you seek additional info, please do not be surprised if nothing more is provided. Also, due to the numerous forum software upgrades, some links may be broken &/or pics missing, so you may need to perform some detective work on your own. Enjoy.

  5. The watch is in great shape for its age, but I think you are in much better shape, especially consider that you have been many more places & experienced many more things than the watch.

  8. It's not a fair comparison buddy. You already told us that the 6536 has had restorative work. Somehow I don't see you spending hours in the beauty saloon.

  14. I tried to manufacture some brass bezels and it never happened due to cost. So I used HR and changed almost every dimension of it on the lathe, turned out nice, but it's a lot of work... May as well seek out a Vietnamese caseset/ Tonny ($600) The case was totally changed also but that's another extreme makeover, it was a silix case.

  15. "I have not yet tested to see if a gen 1520/1530 movement will fit." Look at the MBK sticky above, it tells what's what (in my experience).

  18. I use Never Dull wading. It's been around for decades and works well on all finishes. Here's my KW with just a light rub. My photos are terrible but it rubs a light, nice patina.

  21. Come on Randy, you're WAY too modest. Your "reps" are out of this world and you know it. 95% of the members couldn't duplicate the things you have done...even if they tried. I'm not a "handy" person at all. I can imagine myself filing the crown guards but messing up with hands, dials and all those small parts...no way!!! And I agree 100%. Owning an accurate rep of some watch is much more fun that buying the genuine...even if you got it for a good price. It makes much more interesting conversation...and this forum (for example) is much more interesting that ANY gen watch forum. We generally don't have the elitist attitude, not tunnel vision (most members own both reps and gens) and we have access to "feel" all kinds of luxury watches for ridiculous prices. And the funniest thing is that probably the best watch knowledge of all forums is here. And your Tudor and Daytona projects have been the most fascinating read in the past year. I could easily buy a gen Tudor for $1K, it's not financial thing... but it would be boring. I know exactly what you mean... I get much better kicks for buying 96% accurate rep of some watch for 1/15 of the price. Yeah...offtopic but I just HAD to add this.
