  1. Yeah course, someone should pass the details of the person who 'allegedly' makes the best fake dials in the world to you because you want it and can't be bothered to even enter into a single conversation on this forum about your, or anyone else projects. You just want your information fed to you so you can go and annoy Ivan the Terrible with stupid questions like "how much" "when will it be ready" "where's my QC pictures" Jog on mate, this ain't the forum you've been looking for...

  6. "A picture tells 1000 words or perhaps even more!" I have seen a lot of genuine rlx cases like this and owned a few in worse condition although most were 316. The worst were 16000 series DJ with cal 3035. Also seen many rotted 1600 DJ and 4 digit submariner cases and have a movement/dial rescued from a rotted out 1680 that is now residing in a DW case. No need to shed crocodile tears... Make your rolex last 5 years! Wash it each and every day... With Enviro-Green Rot-Not Spray!

  8. Thank you but I guess there may have been a misunderstanding here. And maybe I was responsible for that - If so, my apologies. This is not a sale or trade post, I only manifested my will of letting the 3646 go. I am around for very long and I know the rules of the forum. In case I decide for it for sure I will do it in the proper way, announcing it in the sales / trade section. Regarding your quote, I do not know Legend or Altesporsche - in fact it is almost a decade from my last contribution on the forum and except Ross, Rolf, Alex and Bob (and maybe a few veterans more) most of the old guard members seem not to be longer around - but if somehow my remark did generate any uncomfortable situation, please do accept my apologies. Anyway, I think there should be more interesting things to interact about, like the process behind the results, techniques and / or the watches themselves. Probably thats the major difference I notice here, compared to 10 years ago. Best, M.

  9. Yup! The main difference between 5504 and 1016 regards dial and hands. 5504s did not come with COSC certification therefore, even the ‘3 6 9’ dialed version would bear ‘Super Precision’ markings instead of ‘SCOC’. At the time some ADs would offer replacement dials to their customers (since anyway the 1530 movement in those watches could be regulated to COSC specs exactly as their 1016 counterparts bearing the same mechanism); as such there certainly are 5504s (as the one in the picture you posted), bearing original SCOC Dials which, nonetheless are not the correct ones for that model. Just another ‘glitch’ in the vast murky world of variations on Rolex models making those ‘original-not-originals’ more palatable to collectors of one-off pieces. Now go figure which one got a replacement dial upon being acquired and which one just got fitted with a service dial later on.... [emoji848]

  10. Well phrased!!! The very reason why I would avoid a TAG! it may be also a good timepiece but is way too overpriced for what it is when compared to a similar genuine Tissot model with a long history ( and may I add - also great value for money). It is a different company from the original Heuer which was a different kettle of fish that was created in 1983 as TAG Heuer. I just love seeing in their ad with a resurrected Steve McQueen (died in 1980) wearing a TAG!!! LOL!!!

  14. I would say most of us here are interested in the history and horological significance of certain brands. We invest our money in watches that interest us, whether it’s gen or rep. Usually the brands will have a long and established history and have contributed to technical advancements in watchmaking. That could be the holy trinity of AP, Patek and VC or any of the major houses, but one thing they all have in common is a long history and a record of developing new ideas to improve their products. I guess that would then exclude brands like Tag, Hublot, etc and just about all quartz offerings.

  15. Lastly, as I said I hate debating and wished I had this picture a lot earlier to spare all the subsequent words. A picture tells 1000 words or perhaps even more!!!! This is a 904L stainless steel case with a 3135 movement Upon removing the case back seal, it is evident that these holes were not made by termites, but surely is a form of corrosion. I will let the viewers decide as to what it is, but I guarantee that it is not fly Sh*t either!!!!! It may not have been caused by H2SO4 nor HCL or even S2O3(2−) but even less aggressive oxidants in the environment which prove that 904L is nothing special. I think most of us here expect it to be as inert and noble like Gold or Platinum. . If that were the case the metallurgist who designed it would be richer than Rockefeller. Rolex could have used a titanium case instead of this 904L gag

  17. Not sure either as the 5504 basically is a ‘poor-man’s’ 1016 with no COSC certification. Both models have different dials - and hands in the case of the Air King - but they share the same case construction and in some cases the same (1530) movement. As such 5504 models are not bubble backs but will rather sport the same flat caseback as their 1016 cousins. A couple of pics of my gen 5504 to illustrate the point:

  18. Those of us that did manage to get our hands on a Dark Lord dial successful used other methods than being “annoying”. You are a complete unknown and if I was Ivan I would not deal with people who didn’t have impeccable references from within the community either. I am neither as knowledgeable or as skilled as my brothers who have posted above, but I like to believe I have some standing and respect here. I gained it by being patient and humble and learning all I could, by dealing with members here who then remember and pass word that I do not cause problems and stick to my word. I never thought I would get my hands on a Dark Lord dial, but eventually an approach was made to me, to see if I would like one. Unfortunately you are convincing the very people who could help you, that they never want to be responsible for that introduction

  20. hmm im sorry but 904L is a an ISO standard and the variation in quality is nearly non existent. it is the composition that makes this a 904 alloy. it is highly resistant to corrosion hence why it was made. I use it in highly acidic environments in oil production. it was designed to be used with very strong acids. The 904 on reps has been tested and does fall into the specs of being called a 904L alloy, but people seem to think that it is a super alloy and it doesn't scratch etc.. its not its actually nearly identical to 316L but has different corrosion properties. People get all bent saying "its brighter" etc and that's horseshit. its not. the whiteness or brightness in the metal has to do with how it is brushed and catches light. my recent noob Daytona is 316 and it looks exactly the same as all of my gen Rolexes. Id like to know where you got your information on 904L because its very incorrect. if what they are usisng is actually 904L then like I said it will have the same scratch and dent resistance as 316 but it will be highly corrosion resistant to acids from your skin and just about anything you will throw at it.. 904L on a watch is mearly a marketing thing as 316L is perfect for watch material and like will outlast you. The reason rolex changed was to solve the pitting issues they had in the caseback around the seal area you seen in a lot of old subs that were worn in salt water and not rinsed off, over time this will pit 316L but a very long time. most of Rolexes reason was because it was exotic, hard to work with and no one else was using it.

  23. This is so weird but I could have sworn I posted a reply on this thread about 2 weeks ago, did I say something bad and it got deleted? I'm genuinely asking and sorry If I did anything wrong. Yeah, the real difference in how good 904L is to regular stainles is that it's slightly more resistant to acids and salts. But honestly, Rolex is just doing it to make their brand seem more exclusive, it's not a huge difference if I understand correctly. Like how Rolex says they make their own gold alloy, etc. It's not really better, more about being exclusive.

  24. Any watching maker capable of servicing a genuine 4130 will be capable of servicing this one properly. Gen parts are available but expensive. Hopefully they will sell individual movements at which point spare rep parts will be available. Any chronograph, but ESPECIALLY modular chronos like the LWO283, should be run periodically to spread the oil and keep it viscous. Never running it because you’re afraid to use it will only cause the oil to dry faster, shortening its service life.
