  1. Yes, as is non-hacking and non quick-set date. Those modern conveniences are a pain to live without, especially for daily wear. . I have two 6542s, one an ETA 2846 and the other a DG3804B. Both rum remarkably accurate. The ETA is non-hacking, but is the current mod with adjustable GMT hand and quick-set date. The DG is hacking, and all the rest. Both are slow-beat. I wear the DG daily. Everyone chooses for themselves just how realistic they want their watch to be. For me, I have no intent to sell my watches, or try to pass them off as genuine to anyone who asks (no one asks). And as I've said before, the only one who gets close enough to see if my watch is hacking, quick-set or GMT adjustable is not there to look at my watch. At that point thank goodness she is there for other reasons. It only matters to the owner of the watch.

  2. I have to confess though. ...sometimes I can't concentrate because I'm staring at my patients watch to see what they got. ...

  8. FYI, if and when there is a new FGD dial it will merit its own thread with all the details - aesthetics, availability, pricing, etc. SD's project is what is actually available and is a huge leap forward from anything available to date for Pre-V projects. Kudos to SD for following through and a number of us eagerly await the final product.

  9. Regardless of the hyperbole of sellers, no rep is ever a 100% accurate copy of a genuine watch. Although gens are somewhat overpriced, it is virtually impossible to make an exact copy of a $10k watch for $300, especially when the rep copy is assembled under less than laboratory grade conditions & without rigorous QC. Each rep has its own set of sins (inaccuracies). The rep made from factory A may get 3 details wrong on the dial & 2 on the bracelet. The same model watch made in factory B may get 2 different details wrong on the dial & a different 1 on the bracelet with an additional mistake on the crown. The point is that each rep has its own set of sins & different people rank different sins differently. That is why I can tell you which rep of 3 samples is the best for me, but it may not necessarily be the best for you. What you need to do is spend some time researching pics & details of the specific gen watch model you are interested in. If it is a current model, make a few trips to dealers & try them on (it does not cost anything to try on watches). Note how the watch feels on your wrist. Note how the metal feels & reflects light. Note how the crown feels when you wind the watch & set the time. Note how the bracelet or strap feels & reacts to your wrist movements. Once you have a good feel for how the real thing looks & feels, then you are in a good position to select the rep that you can be happy with.

  11. Buy yourself a PO42mm and mod it with a gen dial/hands and crystal. Pick up a gen pearl and you have yourself a stellar Franken.

  14. Those are 34mm, isn't it? I still think 34mm or 36mm is a great size for a classic men's watch. Just in case you want to wear it from time to time

  15. @rblippy, is there a reason why you quoted the whole guide two times in a row without posting anything yourself? Just curious.
