  1. On rivet too - sooooo sexy! and yeah, there's virtually no distortion in your crystal.
  2. Awesome! looking forward to the mound of pics when you get it back! One suggestion - splurge on a gen crystal! You will be astounded at the difference it makes!
  3. The only time I ever did this I used the movement spacer ring. The ETA case has these dimples at 9 - 11 - 1. I made crimps in the spacer ring at these points so it would only go on one way, then I glued the spacer ring to the back of the dial. Gotta be careful in un-casing the movement in the future though, because the dial can slip off the movement and bend the hands or scratch the dial.
  4. You're RIGHT! I forgot to add YOU!
  5. @flex - yup, as soon as I sell off some duplicate parts/open up some additional funds - it's got a 21J low beat right now though, and while most people hate DG2813's - I luv em @praetor - gen 7020 and 7030 tubes are V-shaped at the base. If you don't countersink the case, the tube won't be flush against the case and there will be a big gap between the base of the crown and the case. That's why most people just go with gen crown if it will fit on the rep tube. On these new Cartels, they won't. As far as the case to tube gasket missing, if you use some other kind of glue or sealant you should be fine
  6. I'd like to thank all the smackwads who got me hooked on this "birthwatch"/vintage build kick. I've never been so obsessive compulsive following threads, auctions, other forums waiting to snipe the right parts at the right price before in my entire rep career. Freddy, Star, jmb, Jsuperman, Blix, you're all to blame First - the Cast of Characters My Cartel "1:1" 5512 case. Lugs drilled and chamfered, case softened, case back was way ground down to be more gen like, and to say the crown guards where shaved would be a grand understatement - inside and outside job done, case retapped and countersunk for gen tube and crown. Oh! and look who just arrived from Germany to join the party - my gen vintage insert from VRF! Here's a pic of my vintagized dial cased up prior to Gen Mania infecting me. And now, we are just awaiting the arrival of our guest of honor, all the way from Great Britain- my Gen US made rivet bracelet I just snagged! The details, Cartel 5512 base - modded Gen Tropic 19 Gen Insert Clark's Bezel spring Clark's Retaining ring gasket Gen 703 Crown Gen 7030 Tube Gen C&I Rivet Bracelet
  7. I can definitively answer Nope!
  8. The dial inset in the case is 26.25mm
  9. If you don't have a file small enough. I've also used a small hole punch and a nail set in the same manner.
  10. If you can wait til Friday - I can mic my case for you. (I'm on the road right now)
  11. Yep, the new version cartels have strange threads. In trying to fit a gen tube, I discovered the case wasn't completely tapped. It was sort of tapered after about four twists. My friend that owns a machine shop said the threads were an oddball size too.
  12. I guess I was just comparing your guards to Strikers. That's all. Sorry about the keyless! We all just can't leave well enough alone, can we?
  13. That should be the right crystal, and if its a Clark, you shouldn't have any issues. Olivax has the same set up you do - Have you tried using the old retaining ring with the WO spring and bezel/insert? You can also try the old applied physics method of putting the crystal in the freezer for a minute and the retaining ring on the hot plate of your coffee maker for an equal amount of time and then try assembling them.
  14. Looking good, my friend! - Gen crystals really DO make a difference, don't they? Couple things - Reading through the old post stuff, I gotta tell ya - Don't be afraid of removing the dial and hands! As you now know. there are easy enough ways to protect them while you remove them that you shouldn't fear! It will make your reluming much easier. Your lume job on your hands would look pretty kick butt if it was applied from behind. Trying to fill those tiny grooves from the front is, well. . .you've done it so you know how frustrating it is. Your Yuki 7206 looks really nice . I'm totally jealous . I just had to send one back because of finish issues - (Great customer service though, jumping right on it to make things right!), but it's the last major piece I need to finish my beast. The flip-lock with 580 end links are not going to be used on my build. I'll just have to put it on nato until I can get a 7206. I'd definitely give those crown guards a go. A set of jewelers files is a great investment in this hobby. Pull the crown and tube, protect the tube area with a strip of duct tape, and go slowly - couple passes at a time. It's eazy-squeezy. Striker suggested toning down the hands a tad - anyone ever bleached hands before? I'm sure it can be done as easy as inserts.
  15. With screwdriver slots no less! Or are they the peaks from being cut by a wire cutting tool? Can't tell.
  16. The dial feet look too inboard, but it's supposed to go on a 1030 movement, so ???
  17. Tired of getting your wrist hair snagged?
  18. To add to an old thread (because I just finished up mine on my 5512) - I don't have a proper drill press so I was a bit nervous about chamfering the holes afterward. One thing I tried on my practice case before "going live" was an old hand crank drill. Yep, straight from my grandfathers toolbox. I just rested the bit on the case at the proper angle and cranked the handle letting just the minute weight of the drill put the pressure. About 6 or 7 cranks did the trick perfectly! It really let me control the process too! So if you don't have the proper set-up - or are afraid of going too far, this is just the trick!
  19. Posted this earlier today
  20. You're welcome! (No finders fee necessary )
  21. Well, maybe I just laid a big egg here, but I thought this was a great find for a few reasons. Yes, for the most part, Tudors are ETA's - So are any Calibre's from the likes of Breitling, Tissou, Baume and Mercier, etc. Even Omega's are based off the 2892 - including the co-axial's. But what made this unique to me was: Look at the balance. The shock protection and jewel set-up is very unique. Not Incabloc. Not Noviadec (sp?) The Date-wheel would be Gen - how much do we pay for accurate date wheels? What lengths do we go to to get them? Look at the calendar wheel set up. This is nothing like the standard ETA's. . .at all. It may be based on an ETA movement, but look closely at it. It's a far cry from a standard 2824/2836 to my eye. If I was building a franken - I wouldn't hesitate to pay an extra 80 bucks (or less - 2892's are over 200 new from ofrei) for a Gen movement.
  22. But for the good of the community - and my wallet SOMEONE PLEASE BUY THIS! http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-TUDOR-MOVEMENT_W0QQitemZ330547660661QQihZ014QQcategoryZ10363QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  23. Really? - hmmmmm - gotta try this now. TO THE BASEMENT!
